Protests at Hong Kong's airport are leading to a second day of travel disruption.

The protests began more than two months ago against a Chinese extradition bill and have expanded into calls for democratic reforms.

Analysts say the disruption could make foreign investors think twice about setting up shop in Hong Kong, which has long prided itself as being Asia's leading business city with convenient air links for executives travelling across the region

Joshua Wong is a Hong Kong student activist and politician. He serves as secretary-general of pro-democracy party Demosisto. He spoke to The Shift with Drex overnight, and says Canada needs to stand with the protestors.

Lyft says it will launch ride-hailing in Vancouver before the end of the year

Ride-hailing company Lyft says it WILL operate in Metro Vancouver.

However, it says the NDP government's requirement all drivers have a class 4 commercial license means it won't yet operate in other parts of British Columbia.

The province's Passenger Transportation Board is taking applications next month, with the goal to have ridesharing vehicles on the road by Christmas.

Attorney general 'appalled' over Epstein's death, announces investigation

The apparent suicide of suspected sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein in a high-security Manhattan jail has the US attorney general demanding answers.

Attorney General William Barr said Monday that there were “serious irregularities” at the Manhattan federal jail where accused Jeffrey Epstein, an accused child sex trafficker, apparently killed himself over the weekend. Barr, who said in a statement over the weekend that he was “appalled” by Epstein’s death, also fired a warning shot to anyone who may have been involved in the wealthy financier’s alleged crimes.

Wedding planners, tourism industry scramble in wake of Sea to Sky Gondola collapse

The collapse of the popular Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish on Saturday has dashed dozens of wedding plans for the rest of the season.

The Squamish RCMP is treating the collapse as a criminal investigation and said Saturday that the gondola’s cable appears to have been cut. No timeline has been given for when the gondola may be repaired and reopened, which has planners scrambling to find alternative venues.

The collapse was reported around 4:30am on Saturday morning. No one was injured.

The company that operates the attraction says a haul rope (five-centimetre cable) snapped, and most of the gondola’s 30 cabins fell to the ground. Six cabins were in the gondola’s upper and lower stations and were unaffected.

The lift manufacturer, Dopplemayr, has sent a team to the site to inspect the gondola along with an international rope maintenance company.

Akash, a young man from India 

A man police are only identifying as Akash received a BMW for his 22nd birthday… but pushed it into a river because it wasn't the Jaguar he had been hoping for, police claim.

Villagers in Yamunanagar, in the northern state of Haryana, were shocked to see a pricey white BMW 3 Series sinking into the Western Yamuna Canal.

 One witness called police, who sent a recovery team to make sure nobody was trapped inside.

Police divers borrowed an earthmover and, with the help of locals, recovered the BMW from a patch of tall grass it was moored on. Authorities determined the car belonged to a man named Akash, reportedly the son of a prosperous local landowner.

According to police, Akash deliberately pushed his new car into the canal.

The car, which retails for more than $49,000, was a gift to Akash for his birthday two months ago. 

Sources told authorities that Akash made a video of himself pushing the vehicle down the embankment into the water and sent it to his parents.

Canadians celebrated on Sunday when 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ont, became Rogers Cup champion — the first Canadian woman to win the tennis tournament in 50 years.

The last Canadian woman to win the Rogers Cup was Faye Urban in 1969. 

Urban was watching the match and cheering for Andreescu.
