We’re going to step away for a moment from the ongoing manhunt and investigation to chat about something that has been slowly - slowly - making its way to BC - ride hailing. While applications from companies like Uber are being accepted starting September 3rd, whether or not there will be enough drivers is another matter. Uber said earlier today that depending on the number of available and capable drivers, specifically those with Class 4 licenses as opposed to standard Class 5 ones, they might not be able to operate outside of Metro Vancouver. A police manhunt continues for 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky, suspects in the deaths of two young international tourists, and charged in the death of a Vancouver man, Leonard Dyck.

He's the man found near the burned out truck and camper July 19 near Dease Lake. 

The suspects are now thought to be in or near the remote community of Gillam Manitoba.

The manhunt continues for two teenage suspects wanted in three deaths in Northern BC.

At last word, they were believed to be somewhere in or near Gillam, Manitoba, where residents are locking their doors and keeping their eyes open.  

Police are looking for 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky (schmeh-GAL'-ski).

What do you do when you spot a bear in a shopping mall?

A black bear wandering around the outside of Coquitlam Centre mall Monday evening was tranquilized and euthanized. The surprising scene began around 8:30 p.m. when a solitary bear crossed Johnson Street to the Coquitlam Centre parking lot, then made its way to the mall entrance near H&M and Walmart.

As we heard, 150 bears are euthanized every month in British Columbia. That’s a really high number that we can work to decrease. Here are the steps Luci Cadman of the North Shore Bear Society recommends you follow if you live in an area with bear activity: 

Secure your garbage and only take it out until the morning of collection. 

If you feed the birds, do not leave the bird food out for long periods of time. Simply put out a plate of food for the birds and once its done, take it back inside. Do not use hanging bird feeders. 

If you see a bear somewhere, remain a safe distance (100 meters from the bear) and use a strong voice to shoo the bear away. You do not want the bear to become comfortable around you.

Rachel Langford and Johntez Brown welcomed a baby girl they nicknamed "lady lucky" after J'Aime Brown was born on July 11 (7/11) at 7:11 p.m., weighing exactly 7 pounds and 11 ounces.

 

 7-Eleven then made sure that wasn't the only good news from the day.

 

The company reached out to the couple with a special gift in honor of the serendipitous timing of J'Aime's birth.

 

"7-Eleven has pledged $7,111 to the newborn’s college fund to honor her entry to the world on such a special day!" the company said in a statement. 

 

"Along with this pledge, the brand has also provided the family with diapers, 7-Eleven onesies and other newborn goodies to help her parents along the way.

 

Needless to say, Langford and Brown were delighted to hear the news.

 

“It’s hard for anybody to even get a trust fund for their children. To get a blessing like that, it just helps a lot,” Langford said
