One Long Night: A Global History of Concentration Camps

An impasse may be developing just days before hearings are set to begin at the British Columbia inquiry examining possible reasons for soaring gas prices in the province.

The B.C. Utilities Commission has been ordered to review the last four years of gas and diesel pricing in the province and wants suppliers to complete a questionnaire about various business aspects including profit margins.

Those suppliers range from Shell and Imperial to Suncor, Husky, Super Save and 7-11, but documents submitted to the commission show that only 7-11 has responded with details about how it sets the price per litre at the pumps.

It has requested the information not be released publicly and the utilities commission has complied, posting a redacted version of 7-11's questionnaire response to its website.

The other suppliers offered almost identical reasons for withholding profit margin data, with Husky's submission citing ``commercially sensitive information'' that is ``not shared publicly or between refiners.''

The inquiry timetable calls for the release of the second phase of the utilities commission consultant report by next Wednesday, followed by up to four days of what is termed an ``oral workshop,'' where panel members can question industry representatives, including gas and diesel suppliers.

Dog lovers were alarmed this weekend when the FDA released a report which found a link between popular grain free dog foods and canine dilated cardiomyopathy. 

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a type of canine heart disease that affects the heart muscle. The hearts of dogs with DCM have a decreased ability to pump blood, which often results in congestive heart failure.It can often be fatal unless caught early. 

I was one of those dog owners that frantically ran to check their dogs food, and I wanted to learn more about this study and if I could be harming my dog simply be feeding it a popular diet. 

I spoke with Dr. Anna Gelzer, a veterinary cardiologist and an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine about the what the report from the FDA found. 

As stated, the FDA named 16 brands of dog food linked to cardiomyopathy. They are:

The Chinese government is accusing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of being naive in assuming that President Donald Trump did him any favours by raising the case of two imprisoned Canadians with President Xi Jinping.

Geng Shuang, a spokesman for China's foreign ministry, was reacting today to Trudeau's comment a day earlier in Toronto, where he said he was "confident'' Trump raised the matter with Xi at the G20 summit in Japan this past weekend.

In an Oval Office meeting last month with Trudeau, Trump said he would raise the plight of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor in his planned meeting with Xi, as a favour to Canada.

In December, Canada detained Chinese high-tech scion Meng Wanzhou at the request of the U.S. government, which wants to extradite her to face fraud charges.

Kovrig and Spavor were arrested 10 days later and have been charged with violating China's national security, but many view their detentions as retaliation for Meng's arrest.        

Trump said before leaving the G20 in Japan that he didn't discuss the Meng case with Xi, raising questions about whether he made good on his White House commitment to Trudeau.
