2nd councillor quits Surrey mayor’s Safe Surrey Coalition, citing ‘dysfunctional’ council
Another city councillor has defected from Mayor Doug McCallum’s Safe Surrey Coalition.
Brenda Locke made the announcement early this morning, saying too many decisions are made in the mayor’s office and behind closed doors.
She blames McCallum for personal attacks she says are simply not acceptable. When she complained last week that the Surrey Policing Transition Report would mean not enough police officers at Sophie's Place, which helps children who are victims of abuse, McCallum accused her of fear mongering.

TransLink to beef up NightBus service, 24-hour SkyTrain ‘not an option’
As we first told you on Tuesday, TransLink says it will expand its Night Bus service on Fridays and Saturdays, but it won't be expanding SkyTrain hours.
At this morning's Mayor's Council meeting, the civic politicians were told, "the reality is SkyTrain was not built for 24-hour service."
TransLink today released an independent, year-long technical study that found that to extend SkyTrain service on Friday and Saturday nights, service would have to end an hour earlier on Sunday through Thursday nights, to make up for the required maintenance hours, and closures would be required on some statutory holidays.
Instead, Night Bus service is being expanded.

Horgan government ruminating on its response to China’s ban on Canadian meat
Premier John Horgan says the government is monitoring China's recent ban on meat exports from Canada.
China claims the ban was put in place after officials found fraudulent veterinary health certificates on pork products.
Horgan says the ban on beef is of particular importance to British Columbians, and the topic will more than likely be discussed at the Western Premier's meeting in Edmonton this week.
Horgan adds he is convinced that the ban is related to Canada's arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou last December.
