Perfect Marriage of Poetry and Prose

Nelson's book blew me away. I am floored by his prose, his descriptions help you paint each scene in your mind's eye without filling in too much detail, and many of his passages beg to be read and reread, they are that beautiful. The poetry makes the story that much more believable. Each one seems to have been written by the character who pens it because Nelson is a master at capturing the different voices. He is true to each character, and his representation of male and female personas is spot on. I highly recommend this book. I have been reading it aloud with a friend, and I am amazed at the beauty of the language. This is a book to come back to again and again.

Delightful narrative style and beautiful poetry

With a delightful narrative style and some beautiful poetry, Mark Nelson has written a wonderful "escape" read. I enjoyed the good vs. evil setup of the story. This is a fun book to read!

WOW. Great read on so many levels.

First off, great book!

Poets of Pevana can be read quickly, and enjoyed as a romance and political tale.

Or you can dig deeper. Under the first layer is a discourse on the the fleeting souls of the citizens of Pevana (and humankind). Deeper still lingers the grander questions of mortality.

As the book progresses you are introduced to several believable characters, none of which is the quinesential hero - in otherwords - real characters that developed with just enough mystery left behind that you are left wanting to know more.

As the title suggests, there is some poetry spread throughout the book. While poetry many not be the first thing I reach for on my book shelf, in this book it was well done and well paced that it did not dominate the book. The poems themselves on first glance are certainly enjoyable, but do yourself a favor and read them twice (or more).

W A R N I N G...THIS IS NO ROMANCE STORY

Sorry, but this is one dark and depressing Vampire story..... the images of tarantula sized spiders weaving webs around drugged people waiting to be viciously slaughtered and drunk from in 'the blood room' just didn't do it for me. Nor did the Master Vampire's manipulation and obsession over a ballet dancer - one who he was forever fantasizing about ripping into her throat, having sex and devouring her. There was never any chance of her being changed as it was forbidden and, because she had witnessed something awful, he always planned on murdering her.... nothing romantic there. And he tried to convince her he was human by lying and deceiving her whilst killing off her friends.

Told from dual POV's, the language was often too flowery, there was other slow nasty 'drainings' and murders, Vampires that could change into Werewolves, mild sex, confusing bits and weird supernatural happenings. Games where humans were put into tunnels and hunted by gleeful bloodthirsty drooling vampires until they were all brutally slaughtered. And not even a good narrator couldn't save this one for me.

Worth a credit? I got this on sale at $9.97 but even that was too much, I wouldn't recommend it or suggest listening to it if it was free.... so NO, IMO, not creditworthy.... and I'll be asking for a refund.

Loved It!

Naima Haviland has written a dark paranormal story. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. Its the first book in this new series. The story is both paranormal romance and thriller, with parts of pure horror. Its also a really dark erotic story. Naima has created some likeable characters but Julian is a little insane at times. He's a master vampire that has loyalties of upholding vampire laws. He's found himself obsessed on a human woman, not to KILL her even though he is honor bound to do just that, kill her but he can't seam to do this.

This story is one rollercoaster ride between Julian and Natalie. Natalie finds she is sexually drawn to Julian. Natalie has problems with her memory about a certain event and can't remember any details about that time. She becomes fixated on recovering her memories.

Paul Heitsch has done another great job with connecting me to a story. I love listening to him as he tells a story. He makes it easy for me to understand the story. I especially love the way he makes each story he does apart of him.

A decent conclusion

This book brings our gang to Romania and drops them into a vampire civil war. While the ending is perhaps a bit too pat, the story was still pretty good. Seems like there could be more coming later on...

Great Wrap Up of a Fun Series

I could not wait to read the final book in this series and was not disappointed. I suspected there had to be a certain event in the story line but I had no clue how it would manifest. I never guessed the ending, which keeps the story interesting and fresh. Loved the whole series!

Wonderful Series

Was able to get book one of this series free and loved it so much, went ahead and bought 2 & 3. The only problem I have is there are no more books in this series. Very enjoyable read.

Fantastic Listening

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys a great story. I have been an avid audiobook listener for over 10 years and this book will definitely stay in my collection of favorites. The book is so well written, with twists and turns you don't see coming. Buckle up and enjoy the ride while listening to this intriguing fantasy.

What other book might you compare The Rise to and why?

This is a different kind of love story/fantasy and honestly I can't compare this book with any other books I have read/listened to.

What about Randi Larsons performance did you like?

Thankfully Randi's voice is not monotone which is something that immediately distracts me when listening to an audiobook. I enjoyed listening to her and will listen to more books that she has narrated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is definitely a book I wanted to listen to all in one setting; however, I am limited to listening for a couple of hours a day since I do so on my way to and from work. I am always excited to get into my car when I have a new audio book to listen to and this book delivered great enjoyment.

What a fun series.

I love this series. A whole lot of love with some paranormal thrown in. This is the first I have listened to as opposed to have read and It was so enjoyable. I always worry if a narrator will get on my nerves and with Hollie, I never ran into that and I would certainly listen to more by her.

Yes, Mark Mullaney has an amazing voice, and I could listen to him forever. He knows how to keep you interested in the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Hammer as a dog. His thoughts as a human in dog form was interesting. I have always wondered what my pets are thinking. LOL

Which character as performed by Mark Mullaney was your favorite?

Mark did a great job with Desiree. He changed his voice so it was easy to determine each character's personality, but he really did a good job with the strong female.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hammer's love for his dog friends was awesome. Seeing him help Max and put with up the little hyper puppy was heartwarming, and helped cement my love for Hammer.

Get'n Hammered is one sizzling story, it is full of detailed sexy scenes that leave you wanting more. I loved the story! I can't wait for more from Casey Holloway!

Yes; I've read two lifetimes' worth of erotica, and I honestly found each erotic section to be highly diverse and unique in its own way. A second (or third) pass would definitely reveal more detail to "wet the appetite"

Reminds me of a cross between 50 Shades of Grey and Beauty and the Beast...especially the Beast part, if you know what I mean! ;)

What does Mark Mullaney bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Mark Mullaney brings something unique to each character of the story; it is clear who is talking by the subtle nuances in his dialogue depending on who is talking. He makes the characters come alive during the story and puts you right there in the action!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The writing/narration of the first chapter painted a pretty sad image of the helpless dog stuck in the rough kennel, which is sure to get me every time.

This book was great, I can't wait for more in the series from both the author AND the voice actor! What a great collaboration!

2.5 Overall.

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it's readable, which is not much of a glowing review. I did get this when it was on sale which I'm thankful for. The story has a lot happening but it felt rushed. Too many characters were added and there was not enough face time with the main characters. The sex left something to be desired, especially since the woman had sex with three different people within the two and a half hours of the book.

This is a sexy fun book with plenty of twists and a little bit of mystery. Great read!

How about more magic?

Wonderful Read

All work and no play makes a person dull! It's even worse when you work for someone that's dull, especially when you want to spend all the time you can with ones you love. So what's one to do in this situation? Set them up! Oh boy, can you smell the smoke...this could be trouble. The sparks are going to fly when two people that are so alike end up together despite their best efforts not to.

Zack is a busy CEO. He doesn't have time for things like love, or even a life. His world centers around his company, and it shows. As the story unfolds, however, readers are bound to see a difference in Zack. Despite his workaholic ways, he is a decent man. Although I admit, there is one thing about him that bothered me- his lack of attention towards someone who should be at the top of his list.

Then we have Crandall Drake. She's just as much of a career minded person as Zack- and one of his competitors. She's got some trust issues, as readers will find out throughout the story. She wants to trust Zack, but there are plenty of times where she says things that are far fetched.

The two as a couple intrigue me. I couldn't wait to see how this story played out. Matching up two people who didn't make room for love? And they're in the same field as competing companies? Yes, things were bound to get heated, I knew this from the start. I was right! There were some intense moments between the pair!

This Magic Moment is touching, funny and beautiful. Everyone deserves a happy ending. Zack and Crandall just had to learn to open their hearts to the possibility. This author has executed the plot so well, created memorable and charming characters, and I couldn't help but fall in love with the story and it's people.

If you're looking for a great romance, then why not allow a little magic into your hearts? Don't you want a magic moment of your own?

Loved!

This book was mystery, suspense, sex, and comedy. It had all these qualities. I loved it! Can't wait to read more of her books.

Hot and mysterious!

Magnificent! For a reference point, let me say I first thought I'd stepped into a modern version of Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window" then stumbled into 50 Shades of Grey. Having said that, the originality and craft of the story is ALL Saucier--sensual, deep, and alluring.

I was completely riveted by both the mystery and the romance. The murder mystery is complex and multi-layered. But the author gives us enough foreshadowing and clues to feel like we're part of the investigation rather than at a loss. The plot-twist is so clever. Bravo, Saucier!

The romance? Naughty and nurturing all at the same time. Mason is such a hot leading man--confident, protective, and sexy as hell. I couldn't get enough of the two together and couldn't wait to see what Mason had planned next. This one is definitely on my reread list.

Looking for something steamy to make you tremble in all the right ways? Look no further. This one is for you. I highly recommend to readers who enjoy romantic suspense with toe-curling bedroom scenes. Brilliant work, Saucier.

Must Read!!!

I received this book in return for my honest opinion and I must say WOW! I have been searching for a book to read after 50 Shades and this one fit the category. It had me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next in Alicia's crazy world. The author knows how to keep a reader guessing and interested in the book, which is hard to find these days. While it does have BDSM, it also has murder and mystery.. something you don't see in a lot of books. While the sex parts were steamy, it didn't take over the whole book and had a great story line. I would love to see where Mason and Alicia's story goes next.
