Satya Doyle Byock is a psychotherapist, author, and Director of The Salome Institute of Jungian Studies. Her work draws influences from Jungian psychology, trauma research, feminist theory, and the study of race and racism worldwide. Her clinical work focuses on the time of life between adolescence and adulthood that she calls Quarterlife, what Jung referred to as the “first half of life.”
In our conversation we talk about a number of issues facing young people these days including: sex, identity, social media, spiritual and political bypassing,
and we discuss ways they can navigate these issues through embodiment practices and depth psychology. Whether you’re at this stage of life yourself or you’re a therapist or mentor interested in better understanding the challenges young people face, I’m sure you’ll get a lot of insight from this conversation.
I conclude the podcast with a reading of Jungian analyst and author Robert Moore's piece, "The Crisis of the Masculine", which calls for the dismantling of patriarchal structures through initiation rituals and work with healthy masculine archetypes.
