Welcome back to Secret Sauce! Happy New Year! On this episode my co-host Diane from BLK Proverbs. We talk about a wide range of topics. Obviously a new year means everyone has New Year "Resolutions" and we discuss what our goals and motivations for the year are. We talk about what it's like to be stuck at a job you hate and finally being able to take the leap to building your own brand and business. Not everyone has the opportunity to do it but sometimes you need to take that leap to do what makes you happy. We also touch on The Crown, Proud Mary, Black Panther and yes, even 45's ridiculousness in the White House. You won't want to miss this episode.

In addition to the chat with Diane I also have two interviews throughout this episode:

• I interviewed Kiara Madison of Madison Square Bakery who started selling her baked goods in high school and is successfully juggling her business and being a full time college student.  Check out her instagram account @madisonsqbakery.
• To get our year started right, I interviewed  Ashley Chatman a certified fitness coach from Fit Body by Ashley.  Ashley is passionate on helping women get fit while having fun and has a variety of resources available so that you can join her. Diane's black woman shoutout.

The Doctor, Ashanti, Ejiro, and Tai are back to discuss the glorious mess that was Margaret, the soft peddled Nazi leanings of the royal family, Elizabeth's evolving role in light of her diminishing kingdom, and more.

*We had a slight problem with the audio this episode. We will make sure its fixed next time*

It has been an absolutely insane week in sports, and I called in a real deal, no lie professional broadcaster in to help navigate the everything that went down. Sam Franco from 960 the Ref is back to help the NBA not screw up a potential money maker, make weirdly prescient predictions about the outcome of the Pats game (ugh) and dip into some listener mail regarding perhaps the greatest "When Football Quit You" story I've ever heard. We also take the time to get serious, as we discuss the inexcusable inaction of every level of authority with the tragedy coming out of the US Olympic Gymnastics team and the lack of coverage of the same.

Topics:

• CFB Playoff: National Title Game and hope for tomorrow.
• Our newfound sports atheism, not a bad way to live!
• CFB: Nepotism now.
• USOC: Larry Nasser trial. He keeps trying my dedication to be anti-death penalty.
• USOC: Can't fix a broken system without tearing it down.
• USOC: We have to talk about it because no one else will.
• NBA: Oceans' 14.
• NBA: All fights matter.
• NBA: Pick the teams live Adam Silver.
• NFL: LOL Saints.
• NFL: Remember when the Eagles were excited about a young, up and coming QB?
• RIP Tyler Hilinski.
• National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255.

Hey, at least this episode wasn’t as bad as this week’s episode of The Flash right? For all the talk about Arrow doing the same thing over again, we do need to give some credit for the changes they make. Sure, in Divided, Oliver is back to being a lone wolf. And we still don’t know what his plan was (spoiler: he had no plan). But the end of the episode didn’t end how it has in the past. The new team splitting off onto their own is a new development. So credit where credit is due.   That said…we’d be okay with this split if the new team wasn’t 100% wrong. Dinah and Rene have no ground to stand on. Rene’s betrayal is what led to this whole thing yet she’s more upset with Oliver? It’s just really weird and doesn’t make sense.   Hey, Arrow still has some of the best choreographed fight scenes in the Arrowverse though.   Listen to get our full thoughts on this episode. Make sure you subscribe to Super Tuesday Recap so you don't miss a review.   Oliver discovers one of Cayden's secrets; he decides to team up with an unlikely ally to defeat him; Dinah spends time with Vince.

We’re back with the latest Insanity Check episode and we have a lot to talk about. It’s no longer funny: We really have to discuss this whole Sex Bot thing going on. Make no mistake, sex bots will be what kill us all. I’m not even joking. It all goes down from here.

Oh and we end this episode by scaring the shit out of you. You're welcome.

The Flash comes back from break with what might be their worst episode of any season. Trial of The Flash should have been a great emotional episode that shows the duality of Barry’s existence. Instead, the episode is pretty worthless.

This episode is just very frustrating. In this review, Kriss and Dpalm talk about the narrative decisions that are hurting the Flash and question if 22 episodes are just too many for this show. Also, Kriss makes a solid argument for why having Barry reveal his identity is the shot in the arm this show needs.

CW's shows are back from the winter break and that means that Shanna & The Doctor are here to review not only Supergirl, but the latest addition to CW's superhero lineup, Black Lightning. Both episodes show CW's commitment to super hero content. Having just added Supergirl last season, this season CW is adding even more heroes to the show with the Legion of Superheroes. And Black Lightning represents an entirely different direction with not only lead black characters but black show runners and writers. So how did both episodes turn out? Listen to the full review to find out.

Also make sure you join the MTR Network Facebook group to interact with the hosts and other fans to get in on the discussion!

On Supergirl, Kara languishes in a coma while Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath, No Tomorrow) attempts to help guide her back.  Meanwhile, the DEO works to  develop a plan of attack against Reign, who is bringing her own brand of justice to National City.

On the premiere of Black Lightning, we meet the Pierce family in what has to be the Blackest introduction to a superhero hero in forever!

Phenom is joined by Joi from Black Girl Nerds to talk about the movie Proud Mary. This is a film that really got a raw deal. Screen Gems and Sony didn't bother to really promote the film. They did some really specific, targeted trailers and a billboard or two in "urban areas" but it never got the same treatment that Atomic Blonde or even The Commuter. There were no Thursday viewings for the movie and no advance screenings for critics. It would be easy to dismiss it as "well its just not good" but...neither is The Commuter and that still got promotion.

And in terms of quality and if the film is good or not, Phenom and Joi have a lot to say about that. Short answer: It's worth checking out and Taraji P. Henson deserves a lot better.
