Listen up, pupils! It's time for another lesson from Ms. Hildegarde Withers!
Murder on the Blackboard is a 1934 Pre-Code mystery film from director George Archainbaud. The picture stars Edna May Oliver as a strict teacher-slash-amateur-sleuth Hildegarde Withers, along with James Gleason as Police Inspector Oscar Piper. It's also based on the 1932 novel of the same name by Stuart Palmer.
This wild and wacky storyline features murder showing up for class. While overseeing detention, Ms. Withers gets assigned some gruesome homework: discover who killed a fellow educator a few rooms down the hall. She schools her snarky ally Inspector Piper on the case, and the two get to work figuring out who's behind the creepy classroom conundrum.
Listen to Áine and Kevin study up on highly-educational topics like bizarre fire escapes, famed director Sergio Leone, ominous dreams, and fetishes.
Sorry about the weird buzzing noise in this episode — we're technologically ignorant fools, but we'll try to figure out what happened.
