Unlocked from the M'sMs Exclusive Vault! One of our all time favorites! Island sexiness, starvation, nihilism, Dorian Gray, dirty films, fake philosophers, pretend pirates, complaining to customer service, swollen tongues, rotten flesh and MURDER. This is a gangbusters Muriel's Murders - a prime example of why we wanted to start this podcast and why we love it to this very day. AHOY!

Nick interviews the legendary artist, documentarian, and creative force madman extraordinaire Hudson Marquez. Interrupting our regularly scheduled true crime program, this episode of the podcast Formerly Known As Hella is a special treat for all you art lovers, music historians, and anyone hungry for a first class ticket to a wild ride of American history.
Get ready for tales of old school French Quarter dankness, Ant Farm, TVTV, hippies infiltrating the news media, Professor Longhair, Cadillacs buried in the desert, Bill Murray, the LA art world, and how Dick Tracy comic strips lead a kid from New Orleans down the path to creative glory.
Special thanks to Susan.

1930s feminism, old timey adoption ethics, extreme classism, a respected woman way ahead of her time going hard in the paint with some batshit theories, a professional violinist and a carnival man. Muriel can't believe it took her this long to finally cover this case, but here it is. RIP Rita.
This is a PERFECT time to support this lil show, check out www.murielsmurders.com/support for BRILLIANT ways to do so.

The Milwaukee Police were up to some pretty drastic stuff in the early 80s, and Laurie Bembenek wanted in the boys club. Rampant partying, racism, misogyny, nachos, disco, wild jack off parties in broad daylight, boozing, some friendly fire, some not so friendly brutality, and tons of sexy hooking up. According to stats, Milwaukee had one of the lowest crime rates in the country. This story digs into the asterisk next to that statistic. Multiple RIPs in this one. Part 1 of 2.

Tippi's back! This time with the story of Roar - "the most dangerous film ever made." This episode is a stand alone entry, but if you want the whole dirty backstory, make sure to check out Season 2 Episode 56 about Tippi and Hitchcock. If you want an idea what the hell we're talking about, check out Roar on YouTube. Click pretty much anywhere on the timeline and you'll get a sense of what it means to be engulfed by lions and tigers and jaguars and more lions oh my.

Pure intrigue! Tension! Behind the scenes of Hitchcock's masterpiece film "The Birds!" Sadistic "pranks!" Terrible senses of "humor!" And the best part... (for Nick)...? No murder! Is this actually a true crime story? Kinda sorta, but it's true Muriel's Murders, that's for sure.

Stingbean Akeman is an absolute bango-playing, Hee Haw comedy legend. He was a beloved innovator at the Grand Ole Opry, beast on the baseball field and loved stashing cash. He married Estelle who cruised around in brand new Cadillacs, never bothered living with indoor plumbing and also loved stashing cash. These two love birds were brutally, tragically taken from this Earthly existence by a tiny crew of dumbass haters who suffered tragedies of their own. Muriel does it like she always does and hips Nick to the history and world that makes this story one of kind. RIP Stringbean. RIP Estelle.
