Seventeen-year-old Destry Allen was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head by his own father, Bart. Authorities ruled it a "pristine suicide" - but to Bart, and to several experts who later examined the case, almost nothing about the scene pointed to suicide. The subsequent investigation did little to resolve those questions. No autopsy was conducted, despite state law requiring one. No toxicology screen. No meaningful ballistics analysis. No testing of the blood evidence. Simply put: the investigation into Destry Allen's death seemed to end before it ever truly began.
For Psychopedia’s 200th episode, I wanted to do something that felt especially meaningful: use this platform to shine a light on a victim whose story deserves to be heard, and on a family that has spent two decades fighting to be heard alongside him. So I sat down with Bart Allen himself to hear, in his own words, what he saw when he found his son, what happened in the days and years that followed, and why he remains convinced there is far more to Destry’s death than the official story.
This is the story of a 17-year-old boy, a father and mother who refuse to stop fighting for him, and one haunting question that has never gone away: Did Destry Allen take his own life...or was he murdered in cold blood?
