My Favorite DJ

I talk about buying a car. Being responsible with money. As independent contractors we are in charge of all of our expenses, insurances and taxes. I want to make sound decisions and buy things that will appreciate and make me money. Cars aren't that. I answer some Instagram DM messages as well as some email questions.

A podcast from Chicago. I go through an hour by hour run down of what a typical travel weekend for me is like. From Miami to Las Vegas to San Francisco to Houston to Miami. How much sleep is possible? You'll see why I always take the first flight out.

Gordon Ross sent me this great piece featured today. A lot of great ideas implemented in clean ways. It's a great mix with a lot of current hits as well as some gems! I like this mix because it gave me new ideas to play the music I have been playing. Thank you for sending this in Gordon!

DJ Victamone put together a handful of his favorite remixes of classics and covers and such (hip hop, funk, breaks, moombahton, and halftime bangers.) I liked the funkiness of the mix. I hope you guys and girls enjoy!

What kind of deals are possible when you book an out of town gig? I go over the different contracts that I have signed in the past with nightclubs. I cover the different things that they pay for and what you can ask for. I touch on mixing in key and how I believe that song selection is the most important skill to develop as a DJ. Finally, I discuss how even though it would be great for a DJ to make a piece of the revenue of the nightclub, it doesn't make sense.

This weeks feature mix is a great driving mix. At first I thought the mix was a little mellow and wasn't showcasing enough technical prowess. Even though B. Mills has the skills, he makes the music the focal point of the mix. I decided to put this mix up for two reasons. 1. B.Mills hit me up and said "Hey, if you don't have a mix for this week, toss this up!" 2. It's a great example of track selection and how it can carry a mix. I would like DJs to send me mixes at all talent levels, you don't have to be a super technical DJ to put together a great mix! Thank you B. Mills for sending this in!

A podcast from Borgata in Atlantic City. I answer a few emailed questions and give my opinion on how to deal with celebrity DJs or artists DJs bumping the residents. Why I think bad DJs are good for you...

At the end January I played in New York. A club called "Slate" that really changed my mind about New York night life. The club is a big space with high ceilings and the vibe can be best described as "FUN." The resident DJ, Greg Groovez opened for me that night and he inspired me. Traveling for the past several years I haven't heard many opening sets that had such good programming. This may be the best song selection for an opening set I have ever had the pleasure of playing after. Keep in mind, it's impossible to recreate the feeling of the nightclub when you listen to this. The crowd, the mood, the energy, it's all missing when you just listen to the mix. You'll have to fill it in with your imagination. This is a live mix, there are volume drops and mic work. I went on right after the mix ends at around 12:45am.

A collaboration with Evrydy Co. will be released this Wednesday March 6th! The second part of questions sent to me via Instagram. Is there a code of ethics for DJs? How to find motivation when you have hit a plateau. Do I think it's ok to play pre-recorded mixes in the club? A lot of great questions sent in and some information on 32bit/64bit programs and Apple's future operating systems.
