Much confusion and error exist about the role of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the saints. Again, hindsight helps us understand conversion. Although the disciples were with Jesus for three and a half years, they were ill-prepared to comprehend his death and resurrection, let alone launch his church. As Jesus was preparing to leave them to return to the Father, he said, "I will pray {to} the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter {advocate}, that he may abide with you forever." (John 14:16). Undoubtedly, the disciples did not understand when Jesus explained, "This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him because he abides with you, and he will be in you." (v.17)
