  • 036 - Marvin Okello II

It's always a good conversation when the team links up. On this episode i'm joined by HFX Wanderers member services manager & diversity and inclusion officer Marvin Okello, as he's unpacking his new bundle of Wayne Gretzky craft beer.

We begin the show talking about what Marvin was breaking: sober April, and the values of taking a sobriety break for your mental health. We discuss ho beneficial it can be in terms of dealing with the pandemic lock downs as opposed to resorting to drinking more.

We shift to talk about a hot topic - Social media. After the European/world of football embarked on a social media blackout, we discuss the methods of keyboard warriors, and break down the difference between promoting a social cause and outright marketing. We talk about how communication remains his key motive since we last spoke, but how the direction has changed with the Together For Change podcast series.

We discuss the process and value of the show and some of the highlights of the production so far. We talk about how having the conversation is healthy and beneficial for society, and how making time in the first place, is as important as maximizing it. We finish talking about ambition in change and the value of family and friends in this divisive time.

PLEASE go check out the Together For Change podcast series available everywhere you can get your podcasts (Except for apple, for some reason) and help us continue the conversation. Thanks as always Marvin!

    KATY'S BACK!

The first lady of the show returns to talk about Nova Scotia's most recent lockdown, how the government is dropping the ball on the daycare situation, and we try to figure out how to judge Rankin properly in his first few weeks as premier.

We go on to discuss how/why the Liberal party choosing a new premier during a pandemic is unfair, and Katy shares her hilarious Dr. Strang interaction and theory on the man himself.

We shift focus and briefly chat about the Academy Awards and how giving Anthony Hopkins the award over Chadwick Boseman was controversial in more than one fashion. I go on to ask Katy if Facebook should be a limited access timed service, and finish the show asking her what the appropriate punishment should be for the Jubilee Road Judas'.

You can find Katy's hilarious and lighthearted twitter page at @katynotie / look out for weekly visits on the show from Katy as we try and get through this lockdown sanely. Thanks again for joining me Katy!

  • 034 - Jay Perrier III (The UFC 261 Hangover)
It's... TIME... Jay Perrier is back to go over the eventful, sold out, fan packed UFC 261 in Jacksonville, Florida.
We break down the main card: What's next for Kamaru Usman & Jorge Masvidal after their welterweight title clash?... Does Valentina Shevchenko face Amanda Nunes next?... Does Thug Rose consider moving up to face Valentina?... We heap praise on Jimmy Crute, cringe and flash back on the Wideman injury, and Jay gives me his to-the-point opinion on if Jon Jones deserves the money. We end the show talking about the state of boxing and what it means to us.
Appreciate Jay for joining me once again as the UFC, and My Name Is Searl, moves into a new era! Thanks one and all for listening.

  • 033 - Square One
I talk about the situation with COVID locally here in Nova Scotia, and why this outbreak falls in the hands of the anti-crowd. Don't take it too personal - if you do, you're part of the problem.

  • 031 - The Paul vs Askren Hangover
The circus is over, and it failed to meet any expectations I had - relive the combat sports calamity of the century so far, as I break down the Paul - Askren event, the musical ensemble, the matches to make (Yes, there are a few) and what's next for Triller & how to fix this shitshow.

  • 030 - Jay Perrier II & Steven Gilbert (The WM 37 Hangover)
The road to Wrestlemania has run its course as the greatest show in sports entertainment closed it books on another year, with a sold out two night even in Tampa, Florida. Jay Perrier & Steve Gilbert join me on the show to talk about all the goings on from Wrestlemania week, and what we think is to come in the day and weeks ahead leading to Backlash.
We break down how important it is to have fans in the building, laugh at the production, break down the show structure, and discuss the lead up to the event - having that NXT feeling back & how WWE can fix the Andre The Giant Royal Rumble.
We then shift into the two nights matches and all the fallout: We break down pretty much every match of the card and try to figure out what happens next with all the winners and losers of the event. How did the main events shape the next year in WWE? Is the ladies tag division looking better? Which mid-card title change surprised us? What happened to the Fiend? How good was Bad Bunny!? And MORE!
At the end of the show the three of us discuss our way-too-early Wrestlemania 38 main event predictions and what we think happens with the Rock going forward. Stay tuned for more from these guys, as we bridge the gap from Tampa to Dallas, Texas for Wrestlemania 38! Appreciate you guys, thanks for joining me fellas!
Editors note: (Keep in mind: we recorded this Monday night before RAW, so some of our predictions may have come true, or gone faulty already - but the vast majority stay intact. Love you all for listening)

  • 029 - J-Bru II
With the news of unfortunate passing of hip-hop legend DMX, Jason Bruce aka J-Bru joins me to talk about the impact DMX had on his career and why his death feels different. We reflect on what Earl Simmons meant to that era of hip-hop and beyond, and what may happen with his now posthumous album.
We change gears to talk about the UFC and the negotiations between Dana White & Jon Jones. We also talk about fight booking, knees to the head, and the monopoly that has become MMA.
We also chat about Quake Matthews new Myth X album release, reflecting on time spent with Quake over the years. Jay tells an amazing story about the very early days of his rap career and how far he's come.
We also talk about out March Madness brackets, and Jay updates us on the development of his upcoming Web Show! You can find Jason's music on all good streaming apps as "J-Bru" - at the end of the show keep your ears open for an update from Jay on his music career, as well as some news on my end.
Thanks for joining me bro, until next time!

  • 028 - Norm Gallant
Truly, one of the only good things to come out of COVID was this mans energy - i'm joined today by "The Flavor Lab" founder and host Norm Gallant to talk about his budding YouTube cooking show.
We start the show by talking about his beard & the hilariously random story about how he got to know episode 25 guest Chris Sampson. We talk about how COVID took a toll on his energy and how social media was a difficult but responsible hurdle to maneuver prior to the show.
We then get into the show! The Flavor Lab is filmed right in Norms kitchen, and he explains the all around process: cooking, recording, editing, and the trial and error that goes into it all. Norms brutally honest description of his cooking ability makes his creations even more approachable, and he talks about his experience and history in the kitchen prior to starting the show.
We then talk about my two favorite F words: Food, and Family! Norm explains how his mom and his upbringing in small town Newfoundland both directly inspires his current culinary fixtures while also sparking the pure nostalgia of growing up - nothing makes memories like meals. Norm explains how moving out and getting healthy threw him into the fire and how it helped develop his passion for cooking.
We also talk about life in the kitchen with his girlfriend, and the challenges and successes they share as a couple making food! Norm shares an absolutely hilarious story about his girlfriends parents you wont wanna miss... We then end the show breaking down Norms dream sports spread for the big game - what would Norm have on the table, and what goes with it!?
You can find all The Flavor Lab episodes on YouTube by searching "Norm Gallant" and/or "The Flavor Lab" - it's a growing brand I have alot of faith in, and hearing Norm share his experience so far and his vision for the future was a blast. Until next time Norm, cheers brother, and good luck with the content!

  • 027 - Kyle Barter

If you're anything like me, the growing process of cannabis cant be daunting, but the rewards are too good to ignore.

That's where "Grow Like Weed" comes into play - on this episode i'm joined by one of the founders of the company, Kyle Barter, to talk all things GLW!

We begin the conversation giving a bit of background experience on the brand and Kyle himself, the business model, and the vision for the future. Kyle shares how the business maneuvers the legal boundaries with ease, and how the cultivation process is entirely legal under government guidelines. He also breaks the stigma of the NSLC seeds being poor.

Speaking of stigma, we talk about jugging work and parenting with cannabis use, and discuss how the business can help fill a lane in the lacking medical field. I also ask Kyle a few generic stoner questions and ask for his vision of a cannabis utopia.

Grow Like Weed is a 100% legal, safe and interactive micro farming experience, and you can check them out on Facebook "Grow Like Weed", Instagram @_growlikeweed & their e-commerce page, growlikeweed.com

Keep an eye out here and over at Grow Like Weed as well for a 4/20 contest for the ages, you can check that out at the end of the episode! Thanks Kyle and best of luck with the business - i'll be seeing you soon!
