My New Thing with Dan and Zach

I hope you're hungry... for another episode!

Today in the Hobby Hole, Zach and Dan welcome the very funny Kate Willett (Netflix, Comedy Central) to discuss her lifelong love of dolls and the history of the Donner Party. We also get into discussions on musical theater, arena comedy, and polycules. It's a lot of fun!

My New Thing is a comedy podcast featuring interviews with the funniest people on the planet discussing their latest obsessions! We're talking hobbies, sports, video games, and obscure films you can only find on VHS. It's a podcast where comedians talk about anything but how they got started in the biz! What a relief.

Today's episode is all true... or is it?

Today on the bonus (no Traitors aired!) we return to the Criterion Closet and sing the praises of the bizarre, funny, and exciting video essay that is Orson Welles' F for Fake (1973). We talk about art, truth, pretentious arguments, and how comedy must be picked apart the same way magic, painting, and movies must be picked apart! It's a fun one.

New interviews out soon!

Now is the winter of our discontent because we've got a brand new episode of the show!

Today in the Hobby Hole, Zach and Dan invite actor/producer David Hudson to discuss his show, Drunk Shakespeare. We get into favorite plays, how drunk you have to be as the drunk player on the stage, and whether or not Dan can join the cast. If you love the Bard or hate him, this show is for everyone!

Chain yourself to our wrists for an hour... it's time for another bonus episode!

For our final (for now) Criterion Closet Pick, Dan and Zach watch Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (1935), a spy thriller about a man wrongfully accused of murder. It's simple, it's funny, it's the basis for later great Hitchcock movies like North by Northwest. We talk about being a monster in Hollywood, what counted as entertainment before movies, and how the world constantly feels like it's about to end. Check it out!

A life in comedy is a marathon and not a sprint, and that's why we're 20 years into our comedy careers and chatting about...running!

Today in the Hobby Hole, we talk to comedian Andy Haynes (Comedy Central, Conan, Fallon) about his newfound love of running. We talk about addiction, divorce, injuries, and how New York City can make you have opinions you never thought you'd have. It's a wild ride. Stretch a bit, and get in there!

Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall during all our conversations? Well... now you can be when you listen to this bonus episode!

Today, Zach and Dan discuss the Albert Brooks mockumentary Real Life (1979), a film way ahead of its time! We talk about reality TV, the long and storied career of Albert Brooks, old SNL pretapes, anti-comedy, and making movies on a budget.

We're back on our beat... talking about police procedurals that you can watch on the Criterion Channel!

On today's bonus episode, Zach and Dan discuss the 1963 Japanese crime noir High and Low. Directed by Akira Kurosawa, the film follows a rich man who believes his son has been kidnapped, only to find out the wrong child was taken. What follows is good police work, frightening criminality, and a list of issues that capitalism may or may not have caused.
