Yá'át'ééh my relatives,

It’s a beautiful spring day here in D.C., and while the city is celebrating the peak bloom of the cherry blossoms, I’ve been spending my day listening to the oral arguments in the Supreme Court case Trump v. Barbara.

The national debate over birthright citizenship is back at the forefront, but the conversation I’m hearing on the news—whether from the Left or the Right—is fundamentally missing the point. I’ve just finished recording a new episode of my podcast to offer a perspective that doesn't fit into the two-party binary.

We cannot have a just conversation about who "belongs" on this land until we are willing to look at the foundations of our Nation itself. It’s time to stop re-carpeting a broken floor and start looking at our history with both honesty and integrity. I invite you to join me as we move beyond partisan screaming matches and toward a much-needed national intervention.

Walk in beauty,

Mark Charles

Yá'át'ééh my relatives. Today is Friday, January 23. Grab your favorite beverage and join me for a conversation about how my journey to decolonize my health led me to give up coffee. But this isn't just about the dangers of caffeine—it's about learning to listen. I discuss how ignoring the body mirrors how we ignore Creation in our theology ('Creator vs. King'), and I weigh in on the recent clash between Mark Carney and Donald Trump regarding the future of colonial nations.

Today, over My Second Cup of Coffee I discuss the "Shock and Denial" that is behind our Nation's inability (from both sides of the aisle) to rescind it's Medals of Honor for the Massacre at Wounded Knee. Why is our nation "unable" to face its own history? It's a symptom of a much deeper wound. I invite you to join me.

Intro:
On September 25th, 2025 the new Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, announced a final decision on the Medals of Honor for Wounded Knee, stating, in a video that those soldiers "deserve those medals" and "their place in our Nation's history is no longer up for debate". I'll share the link and his full statement in a moment.

Today, I explore the "Shock and Denial" that is behind this decision. And why, from "both sides of the aisle," our nation is "unable" to face this history? I believe it's a "symptom of a much deeper wound," and I want to talk about that wound and the best ways to address it. So I invite you to grab a cup of your favorite morning beverage and join me for My Second Cup of Coffee.
