She shares why she chose them, what’s in the package, what they will and will not do, which versions are accessible, advantages and disadvantages, and much more. If you’ve been with us for any length of time Chris’s love for robot vacuums will be no secret to you. Those who listened to our last episode will know that we’re spending time at our summer home. Can you guess what that means? Yes, it was time to adopt a new robot. Today’s episode talks about that journey.

I don’t want to give too much away here, but we do discuss two robot vacuums in today’s podcast. The first is the Shark AI Ultra Voice Control Robot Vacuum with Matrix Clean Navigation, Home Mapping, 60-Day Capacity, Self-Empty Base for Homes with Pets, Carpet & Hard Floors (Silver/Black). We unbox it, set it up using the iOS app, and let it begin its initial mapping run.

The second robot is the Roborock Q5 Max+ Robot Vacuum with Self-Empty Dock, Upgraded from Q5+, 5500 Pa Suction, DuoRoller Brush, Hands-Free Cleaning for up to 7 Weeks, PreciSense LiDAR Navigation, App & Voice Control. While we don’t provide setup or vacuum demos for this one, we do thoroughly discuss our thoughts on the pros and cons of both the Roborock and the Shark. We hope you’ll find our tips and impressions helpful if you’re ever in the market for a small but mighty cleaning machine.

Please note that links provided in this post our Amazon affiliate links. Purchasing via these links provides us with a small commission. We never recommend items we haven’t used ourselves. We appreciate your support so much.

Thanks so much for listening. We appreciate you!

  • These Flowers Are Mine

Welcome to our first front porch edition of 2024, with more to come. Hope you enjoy the added natural ambiances.

In this episode we talk about what goes into making a simi-permanent move. We aren’t talking about a one or two week vacation here. What happens if you need to re-settle in a place far from home for a month or more? What goes into planning, preparing, packing, and transitioning in that situation? We discuss our own recent experience of moving for the summer. How does blindness or visual impairment impact such a move? Hope you enjoy the topic.

Chris also shares how he recently came this close to falling for a scam via email. If you find this topic as important as we do and wish to learn more, check out our audio documentation covering this from a blindness perspective. So many people have lost their livelihoods and even their lives as a result of scams, so we think it’s crucial to spread the word about how to stay safe.

Thanks, as always, for listening! We appreciate you!

  • A Change of Scenery

We have a lot of fun demos and updates to share in this episode. First, we continue our discussion of the Windmill fan we set up and demoed in the previous episode. We show you how it works with Alexa and Google and share our thoughts after using it for a couple weeks.

Our fan wasn’t the only purchase we recently made to bring more comfort to our home sweet home. We also bought a Levoit air purifier that works with Alexa, and works wonders on our breathing during all these allergies. Note that if you purchase the purifier via the above link, we’ll receive a small commission from Amazon. We never recommend items we don’t use and love ourselves. We provide a tour of the associated iOS app, which is extremely accessible and useful. Hope you enjoy our demo and thoughts.

We’ve talked quite a lot about Alexa during this episode thanks to its smart home capabilities. We’re very excited to let you know that we have updated audio documentation on the screenless Amazon Alexa products. This newly-created documentation focuses on what you can do strictly using your voice, although we do visit the app for a couple of sections where it is necessary. If you already bought previous incarnations of our Echo documentation, you have access to this at no cost to you. Just log into your Mystic access account and redownload the DAISY or MP3 version. If you like the new documentation and feel it has added value to your life, we gratefully accept your financial gifts in any amount. There’s absolutely no obligation to make a gift. We also so appreciate when you spread the word about our products to those whom you feel may benefit. Thanks in advance, and we really hope you enjoy this new Alexa documentation!

Finally, we continue on with our Alexa topic by discussing routines. What are they and how can they benefit you? We provide some ideas and examples.

Hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for being part of our community; we appreciate you!

  • Automatically Tuned

This episode is packed with demos we hope you’ll enjoy. Links included in this post are our affiliate links; if you make a purchase from them, we’ll receive a small commission. We never recommend items we don’t use and love ourselves.

If we sound a little different today, there’s a good reason. We bought some inexpensive but very nice-sounding microphones from LEVN to use as part of our podcasting toolkit. We discuss what we think makes them so neat. Here’s a link to check them out for yourself.

We next chat about the world of radio reading services. What makes them unique and how can you find those local to you? Listen to find out. And enjoy this list of services compiled by APH. Note that some links may be out of date as of the time of this writing.

If you’re traveling this summer, or just want some neat new gadgets to add to your life, you may enjoy some of our demos. We show you a small but mighty jewelry organizer that can double as storage for thumb drives and other small items, a bag for organizing your smaller tablets, cables, and electronics like Streams, soft and sturdy pouches for headphones, and our personal favorite, a foldable, fast, MagSafe charging station for iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods. If your Android phones supports wireless charging, this station should work for it, also. We absolutely love this handy device, and think you might, as well. Having taken one on a plane in carryon luggage, we can confidently say it’s awesome to travel with!

Thanks, as always, for listening. We appreciate you.

  • The Girl In The Cave

We begin this episode with some accidental comedy. We mention a topic nobody wants to talk about at all… taxes. While we don’t discuss them in detail in this episode, you can learn more about accessible tax/financial software and apps in this podcast episode.

Did you get to enjoy the solar eclipse from your location? While there was a lot more cloud cover here than in many other places, we still had an awesome time. If you felt left out or just want to feel the excitement all over again, there are many archived resources for your enjoyment. Type “NASA solar eclipse coverage” into your favorite search engine to watch they’re wonderful event from April 8.

Many of you know that Chris and I love headphones. We discuss two pairs in this episode, one of which inspired the title. Both are by the brand SoundPEATS. Their Space over-ear headphones boast 120 hours (yes, you read that right) of battery, noise canceling and passthrough modes, and multiple EQ settings via the SoundPEATS app. They’re well-built and, at least currently, well-priced.

Chris also got the SoundPEATS Capsule3 Pro Earbuds which he’s really enjoying. While neither of these are Apple or Bose quality, they’re both really great options for their pricepoints. Please note that both the above links provide Mystic access with a small commission if you purchase through those links. We never recommend products or services we don’t use ourselves, and only recommend items we feel may benefit listeners.

Finally, we discuss various ways to find news accessibly. From TV and podcasts to RSS and voice assistants, there are so many ways to learn what’s going on in this great big world. We’ll discuss another great resource for accessing various content in our next episode–radio reading services.

Thanks, as always, for listening and spreading the word. We appreciate you!
