(本集為「『傳送門』計劃:疫病、移工、原鄉、全球南方」系列/Music: "Wandra - Kelangan", "Selangkung Rong Langkung"; recorded by Et@t; specially thanks to Wu Ting-kuan)

Presented by Mo Lou(莫奴) and Stéphane Verlet-Bottéro (among other names) in 2020 Taipei Biennale for "The School of Mutants" curatorial and research program, this podcast explores the ruins of the incomplete University of African Future in Dakar in this program, one of the few remaining traces of former diplomatic relations between Senegal and Taiwan, which supported the project in the late 1990s. The brutalist architecture included neo-Sudanese auditoriums, and a reversed concrete pyramid for library: a radical design for a pan-African utopia. Unearthing the remnants of this and other post-independence infrastructures of knowledge, Hamedine Kane and Stéphane Verlet-Bottéro’s work "The School of Mutants", in collaboration with a number of artists, researchers and specialists, delves into the broader archives of Afro-Asianism. This conversation aims to re-visit this historical sequence of political partnership between Taiwan and Senegal, and discuss its speculative potential to consider and amplify current transformative scenarios in the Global South. Intended as a dialogue, it invites experts in the field to examine how these questions are thought across Asia, from the perspective of theoretical arguments in postcolonial studies as well as political and historical discourse. The interview is conducted in English as answers and in Chinese as questions. A part of the audio piece of this project is also played in the end of the first sequel and the beginning of the second sequel.

Indonesian migrant workers’ body experiences in labour, daily routines, and cultural performances represent nation-building and memories of resistance to colonialism. As a proof of workers’ patriotism, Red and White flags flaunt in Indonesian grocery stores, restaurants, at rallies, and on the hilltops in foreign land. However, their absence on Independence Square implies unfulfilled struggle. (Sima Wu Ting-kuan)

This radio program is stemmed from the “Nanyang Radio Station: An Audio Guide for 228 Peace Memorial Park” during Petamu Project, co-organized by Nusantara Archive and Open-Contemporary Art Center in 2018. The 228 Peace Memorial Park was formerly known as Taipei New Park, the second exhibition venue of Taiwan Expo in 1935. The original project was presented in two ways – a radio-based installation and an audio-guided tour. As the tour reached its end, all of the participants followed the voice guidance, heading towards Taiwan Radiobroadcasting Booth situated in the center of the park. Despite the fact that the booth is no longer in use, still it is imaginable that the civilians had gathered here and been stunned by the broadcast of Gyokuon-hōsō (“The Imperial Rescript on Surrender”) – announcing the unconditional surrender of Imperial Japan to the Allies in Taiwan, which was served as the industrial base modernized along with Japan’s Southern expansion, while immersing in the sense of “being united” created by the radio wave. All of a sudden, the Taiwanese general public had no choice but to change their identification since the broadcast was an official announcement of the unclaimed future existing way before the change which people might wish to happen.
