Nargles and other Nonsense

This week, we’re talking about our first book club book: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. We would love for you to read it, because it’s incredible. In this episode we dive into the characters, the setting, and the amazing Tomi Adeyemi. We don’t spoil anything big, but we do reveal some elements of the plot and story. Even if you haven’t read it, listen to us talk about how much we love it, what it’s done for the book community, and the important messages within the text. We'll talk about each book we read for two months in total. Did we mention that we didn't tell Casey about this beforehand? Listen as we talk about the healing powers of mistletoe, magic trees, and coyote wolf hybrids. We're back again and hopping on a trend. This week we're tier ranking our summer wish list. We rank things like mowing the lawn, beaches, and required summer reading. Find out what we love to do and what we hate to do. And we've got some strong opinions. But what we thought would be arguing, really turns into sharing sweet summer memories, nostalgia, and actually staying on topic. And of course while we miss some summery fun, we are all still wearing our masks and staying safe.

And if you're just tuning back in, we'd like to let you know that Nargles and Other Nonsense is broadening to become a literary podcast. Each month we're going to read a book together and discuss it. Along the way, we'll throw in some other bookish episodes. If you'd like to read with us, we're reading and discussing Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi in August. Until then, we'll be having various podcasts about various topics where we talk about various subjects. Most importantly, we will probably still be off topic.

Here's another fun podcast, just for you! We play Muggles Against Humanity. It's similar to another game that features cards against humanity. We have to fill in the blanks with some very ridiculous answers that deal with some weirder aspects of the wizarding world. This one isn't for the faint of heart. The prompts are fun, the answers are vulgar. There is a lot of singing. And we definitely shouldn't play with only 3 people.

To be honest, it feels weird to be writing such an upbeat description in a stressful and sad time. We hope this podcast can make you laugh, feel good, and escape your worries for even a little while. If you're feeling cooped up, we hope it feels like you're hanging with friends.

It goes without saying that the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter is.... mysterious. The people that work there are called "unspeakables" and literally can't make small talk about their jobs. And remember that huge fight between Harry's friends and the death eaters in the fifth book? (Remember the man with the baby head). Really, we're left with more questions than answers. The hags are digging deeper to reveal the secrets of this somewhat dark ministry department. We talk about the ins and outs of prophecies, what the "love chamber" contains, and what exactly that black veil is. Let us know your thoughts on the department and if you have more questions.
