Nargles and other Nonsense

Get ready friends, we're playing a game this week. Casey plays some of of the most random audio clips from the first four movies. It's up to Gaby and Paige to try to guess the movie and what movie scene the clip is from. That's right, it's a game of Guess that Noise. Settle in and play along with us! Some are pretty tough. Although one of us is very good at this game. Let us know what you thought the sounds were, and let us know if you want us to play this again!

If you listened to last week's episode, you'll know that we got really worked up over wizard law. With so much magic and mayhem, what's the limits on what wizards can and can't do? We find out and discuss some of the major laws that wizards have imposed on magical creatures, cursed artifacts, and dangerous spells. We can finally explain why the Ministry was allowed to search through Dumbledore's will. But why won't Wizards let the Goblins have wands? And why hasn't Casey ever watched 2005's iconic Disney film: Sky High?

When we decided to talk about the unforgivable curses, we thought the episode would be a real bummer. Who knew we could get so hype about wizard laws. We discuss the three terrible curses that will land you in Azkaban for life if you're caught casting them. Plus, we get confused about why Hogwarts and the wizarding world are lawless places. But, if you perform magic outside of school when you're 12, you're basically given a life sentence. Whats up with that?

Let us know what your curse would be if you could create an unforgivable curse. Thank you to Paul for the FMK's!!

Last week, we asked on Instagram what you wanted us to talk about and the answer was a resounding vote for beasts! This week, we talk about 9 fantastical magical creatures. From the cute and cuddly, to the superstitions, to destructive pig demons. Grab your copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and read along. Listen to our first episode about beasts (featuring Emma) to learn about the classification of magical animals and other introductory facts. If you follow us on Instagram watch our story for a chance to vote on what we discuss next!

Surprise! This episode isn't about Harry Potter at all. Instead the hags have picked a favorite conspiracy theory to share with you! Casey wonders which member of the royal family is a vampire. Gaby investigates a family of bears with a mysterious name. And Paige takes us on a plane ride over a crazy triangle. And it really freaks us out.  Which theories are too crazy? Which are too real? Listen to find out and let us know if we should share more theories with you!

When you think about which character you'd want to be your big sister, who comes to mind? Which character has a name that literally means "metamorphosis fool?' If you're answer to either of these questions is Nymphadora Tonks - you've got the subject of today's episode. Tonks! We just think it would be really cool to be a metamorphagus. Plus we talk about Tonks' family, her relationship, her movie portrayal, and her general badassery. Maybe we get a little off topic. But you're probably used to the nonsense.

If you listened to our anniversary podcast, you'll know that we talked about the trends that were popular in 2009 when the hags became friends. We had a lot of fun looking back. We even wondered, what trends were popular while Harry Potter was in school? This week, we've got the answers. While Harry was fighting Voldemort, we were collecting Beanie Babies. All we really really want is to know which Hogwarts girls were into the Spice Girls and which Spice Girl Flitwick identifies with. Tell us if you have any 90's memories, and if you know what Casey is talking about when she talks about Pogs.

Did you really think we'd go through Marauders May, dedicate two whole episodes to Snape, and then never talk about Lily? Really? Cause guess what, this week we're talking about Lily Potter née Evans! (How do you pronounce née, by the way?) Anyway, we talk about how we mostly see Lily is relation to the men in her life. So talking about her get's a little tricky. What would she have thought about the name Albus Severus? We talk about her opinion on Harry, her relationship with Petunia, and Paige and Gaby cast a teen wolf version of the Marauders movie. Plus! Did you know the hags met in 2009? We take a walk down memory lane and bring back silly bandz and other nonsense.

Thanks for listening, friends! And thank you to Paul for giving us our Fuck Marry Kill this week!

After 50 episodes, 50 games of FMK, and too many sidetrack tangents to count, it's our one year anniversary. On July 31st last year, we released our first ever podcast. So it's only fitting that we do a little reflection. This episode, we discuss life lessons that Harry Potter taught us. We think deeply about friendship, life, family, and plucking up the courage to ask Hermione to the ball before someone else does. Spoiler alert: it gets a little heavy! But hey, we do stay pretty on topic.

Thank you so much to all our listeners! And thank you to our patrons! We have so much fun recording this podcast and making it special for you guys. If you've reached out over social media or email, thank you. It means so much.  We're so happy you've accepted this weird little podcast that is sometimes about Harry Potter...but is mostly about Twilight.

Here is Part II! We've talked about doing this since we started podcasting. The Great Snape Debate is on!! We know you love him or hate him. Or you love to hate him. You think he's a hero, or you can't stand him. This week we're giving you our opinions on Severus Snape. Casey plays Devil's Advocate, while Paige and Gaby just continually shout into the microphones. A big warning to the headphone listeners, things get intense. We go through a Severus Snape Pro Con list. The good he's done, and the bad he's committed. Is his love for Lily romantic and unconditional? Or is it skewed? Are his actions for the "greater good?" Does he enjoy abusing positions of power because he was never given any? We discuss all this and more, so give us a listen. Let us know your thoughts on Snape. Tweet us, email us, leave us a comment on any social media. This is a huge discussion within the HP fandom and we're excited to share our thoughts on one of the book's most interesting characters. Thank you so much for listening.
