In 2017, Taylor started the Australian Public Service Indigenous Apprenticeship Programme with the Department of Defence, graduating 12 months later with a Diploma in Government and a full-time job. Mick and Amanda Astill, owners of Astill's Electrical Services, are the winners of the 2019 Medium Employer of the Year Award. They talk with Scott Cam about the value that VET can provide to businesses of all sizes.

Astill's Electrical Services started from a small home office in Wondai and hired their first apprentice after three months. The business has kept growing and growing, now well established in Kingaroy with over 20 staff, and VET training is a key part of their business.

Brendan left the army with his eyes on an apprenticeship, but things weren't as easy as he'd hoped. Through resilience and determination, he managed to land an Electrical Instrumentation Apprenticeship after 12 months of experience as a trades' assistant.

When Hanna went to the first class of her Diploma of Marketing, something sparked within her. She knew that she wanted to bring her family's business of 22 years, Bungendore Country Butchery, into the modern world and quickly realised that her vocational training was the right decision for the future.

Hanna wanted to get straight into the workplace and get ahead quickly using VET, completing a Cert III in Agriculture, a Cert IV in Marketing and a Diploma of Marketing.

Matt is warm, fun, a self confessed foodie, and a father of two. Matt has

notched up an interesting list of careers, from a musician in the Australian

Navy to media and marketing for the Federal Government.

Matt's journey led to him following his passion for food, taking up a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, and started work as a head chef not long after.
