  • Raising A Child With Diabetes

As a first-time mom, most of us go above and beyond what many deem necessary for our child. Imagine talking to your pediatrician and just knowing the information that they are telling you just does not fit the symptoms your child is experiencing. We have to feel comfortable advocating for our children, and the best way to do so is to track and keep detailed records of signs, symptoms, behaviors, and concerns so that you can have an ongoing, open dialogue with your medical provider. #Motherhood #MaternalMentalHealth

Listen in on the discussing that my guest Maria Merced, Mommy Blogger, and I have about her discovery, diagnosis, and the daily management of her daughter's autoimmune disease, Type 1 Diabetes. Maria has created a blog to help other parents with information and resources that can be found at http://www.maria-merced.com  https://www.raisingachildwithdiabetes.com/

  • Ambitions, Motherhood, and Bipolar

Being a mom requires late nights, early mornings, and lots of maneuvering and pivoting to make sure that everyone's needs are taken care of. In most cases, it's a full-job within itself. But what do you do with the passion of your purpose that burns deep inside of you? How do you climb the corporate ladder you so desperately want to conquer? How do you turn that hobby you are so good at into a business, when your every moment is accounted for. Now just imagine if, on top of regular duties and responsibilities, your child has a diagnosis that you have to learn, understand, and in turn teach them to manage properly. How do you do it? Support, education, prayer, and taking care of yourself, are just a few of the tips my guest, Shunte Gamble - serial entrepreneur, author, radio host, teacher, and mom of two has to offer.

Shunte talks about navigating her journey through breakups, career, motherhood, and purpose and leaves a trail of gems for use along the way. You can find more about the work that Shunte does at Women Empowering Change

  • Disparity In Maternal Health

The disparity in Black Maternal Health is astounding. Black Moms are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related deaths than a non-black mom according to the CDC. My state, Louisiana, is #2 behind Georgia in these losses. Our city, Monroe, LA, received two heart-wrenching blows as we loss two beautiful moms within days of each other, that left everyone with so many questions and started conversations revealing a host of traumatic experiences from family members left to mourn. #BlackMaternalHealth #PregnancyComplications

My guest, Professor Brittany Lewis, RN and I discuss factors associated with pregnancy-related loss, multiple factors related to the disparity, and what reignited her passion to make changes in these statistics. Brittany is seeking resources to help black moms in Northeast Louisiana obtain education and resources to reduce the risk and associated losses. She can be messaged at Brittany ChocolateDoll Lewis on Facebook.
