  • 19: What are some of the biggest pitfalls have you seen when business negotiators try to take home their skills to use with their family?

    Send us Fan Mail

Sales expert, Robert Gillette, discusses pitfalls of taking negotiation skills back home to the family.

Robert is a California native who’s been selling MSP services in the middle of the Silicon Valley since 2015. After selling millions of dollars of recurring revenue, and helping a local MSP grow from $10mm to $30mm in revenue he set out to help other MSP’s reach their revenue goals.

In 2023 he founded the MSP Dojo, a community where MSP owners and sales people can intentionally practice their sales craft together, so they're never practicing on a prospect.

Looking to reclaim the sales profession as something that people can be proud to do with honor, confidence, and integrity.

  • 16: What is the difference between negotiation and mediation?

    Send us Fan Mail

Attorney mediator, Scott Goering asks Alice to explore where mediation and negotiation differ.

Scott has been a member the California Bar for 19 years. He’s a State Bar certified Child Welfare Law Specialist. He ventured into the world of mediation back in 2012 when he realized a life time of trial practice would also necessarily shorten said life time. San Francisco has been his home for 33 years, where he worked in various non-profits before heading to law school.

With experience in family, juvenile, and real property law, Scott feels equally adept at advocating for clients or finding common ground for all involved.

Because life works better with good discussions, and the carnage created by court trials often detracts from the end product, even if you 'win'. Winning at trial can feel like a victory, but it can also be a bit like winning a pie-eating contest – you might have a trophy, but you may not enjoy dessert that much.

Law practice allows Scott to get to the bottom line pretty quickly in most conflicts. Mediation practice allows him to help other participants to come to the same conclusion on their own.

  • 11: How do I negotiate workplace conflicts?

    Send us Fan Mail

Business Coach, Lloyd Cain asks how to deal with workplace conflicts.

After high school, lloyd stepped out of his comfort zone, and sought adventure out side of South Africa, he spent 2 years in the Middle East volunteering, then he went to sea, working in privately owned luxury super yachts, he spent +\- 14 years, between the Mediterranean, Caribbean and on two separate occasions doing around the world trips.

In 2011 whilst still working on the boats, Lloyd took up a new adventure, and that was to attend university, he completed his BA in humanities (2013), has an honours in History (2014). After his honours in 2014, Lloyd officially stepped away from a life at sea.

A new adventure was now to seek a shore based career, from 2015-2018, Lloyd worked part-time for a NPO (non profit organization) in his home town of Cape Town.

In 2019 Lloyd went back to academics and did his Masters of philosophy in management coaching from Stellenbosch University Business School. In 2021, after completing his masters, Lloyd started his own executive coaching practice.

The work space for many decades has been an environment that sadly at times has done more harm than good. For example, companies demanding loyalty and extra time from their staff, but hardly reciprocating that back. When a company misses their projected profit outcomes, the go-to course of actions is to lay off staff.

However it is not all negative. There are equally work spaces that truly do value their staff and customers. As a result, the loyalty and level of effort is mutual.

I do what I do because I have witnessed and experienced both the negative work space and the positive work space.

My objective with executive coaching is to enhance the positive work environment, and mitigate the negative elements that realistically will always be with us.

Coaching is not a quick fix solution, it is a journey that challenges the business assumptions, forces the justification of actions and decisions. Ultimately coaching is about doing business at an ethical and moral level, not what you can get away with legally, and that for many business owners, line managers, team leaders can be a very difficult realization to confront and come to terms with.
