merry day after christmas, nersey podcast is back. to wrap up the year we’ve got a two-part BEST OF NERSEY series featuring all of our ‘classic segments’, now REMASTERED BY OUR PRODUCER STEEL TIPPED DOVE. relive all the excitement and thrills of the nersey episodes you either forgot about or didn’t know existed, presented in a format that cuts out all the stuff that made it super clear that we had no idea what the hell we were doing back when we started. we will be BACK with a VENGEANCE in the YEAR OF OUR LORD TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY FOUR.

also let’s take a moment to give dove his flowers because he had a hell of a year. first off he produced albums for damn near everybody in underground hip-hop: r.a.p. ferreira + aj suede, fatboi sharif, andrew, nosaj from new kingdom, alaska from atoms family, plus aj suede again. a lot of those came out on his vinyl-focused label fused arrow, which also reissued premrock’s 2013 tom waits tribute mark’s wild years. ALSO, dove put out a bangin solo record featuring (among others) r.a.p. ferreira, shrapknel, donwill, big baby gandhi, and mc paul barman (!). ALSO ALSO, he engineered billy woods and kenny segal’s maps, which pitchfork just named the best album of the year. ALSO ALSO ALSO, he made a song for a compilation that drew put out featuring songs in the made-up genre “golfcore.” 

::extremely infomercial voice:: BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE! dove also just dropped a double cassette featuring 53 of his beats from this year. one cassette is silver and the other is gold and the case kinda looks like an old-school ipod.

welcome to the Nersey Responsibility Era™. we’ve got a new producer named joe aka steel tipped dove, and he’s got trey recording in the stu, making us sound sick as hell, and helping us actually get episodes out the week we record them. nersey taking over for the 99 and the 2000 and also the 2023 and the 2024. however, i’m still gonna write the show notes in lowercase because nersey is a leftist podcast and therefore against capitalism in all its forms including capitalizationism. which is a word.

this week we’ve got a sick ass guest who’s cool as hell: the rapper and producer jimmy prime. he’s a toronto legend who literally invented the term “the six (6, 6ix)” and once beat justin bieber in a dance battle at a party drake threw, which is an insane string of words to type out. we obviously talk about the bieber dance off, plus we get into the most problematic film and television characters of all time, jimmy’s new podcast northern ruckus, how much of a pain in the ass it would be to actually have a gold toilet, etc. etc. etc.

- our former colleague at that place we all used to work- nature respecter / forest protector- writer of a blog post about lil wayne every day for a year- manifestor of the t-pain/lil wayne album as a result of t-pain reading one of the blog posts he wrote about lil wayne every day for a year- winner of the vice office hot dog eating contest- recipient of giant novelty check (unrelated to vice office hot dog eating contest)- namesake of the kyle kramer memorial elevator

the list goes on. but one thing he is not is someone who has never appeared on this specific podcast.

we took a few weeks off, we’re sorry it won’t happen again. it wasn’t that we got too busy to edit the episodes for a while it was that uhhhh that was the end of season one of the pod? yeah definitely that one.

anyways. we talk about a bunch of stuff like the possibility of the old vice office getting turned into an airport CBGBs, asap rocky’s veganism, and slava’s theory of “the canadian internet.” we also celebrate the return of the REAL blink 182 by drew talking about how he recently saw a ufo, slava talking about his traumatic childhood memory of accidentally playing an extremely profane blink song in front of his mom, and trey making the bold claim that eminem supplanted blink 182’s place in culture. featuring a cameo by friend of the pod derek mead, who called trey while we were recording so we put him on speaker and turned it into content.

we interrupt our regularly scheduled quasi-music programming for an episode about the NBA. after james harden went to China, went ballistic on his own GM in front of a bunch of teenagers, and then did some tiktok dances, we decided to call up our friend Yaron Weitzman, NBA writer for Fox Sports and author of Tanking to the Top: The Philadelphia 76ers and the Most Audacious Process in the History of Professional Sports, and have him help us understand what the hell is going on here. yaron also told us about a very funny story about the time he interviewed james harden, the particulars of being an NBA reporter, and whether he’s worried that Paul George is going to steal his job. 

we recorded this episode on monday and are very glad that nothing really huge happened with the james harden thing while we were editing it.
