Real estate is a complex industry with a lot of moving parts that need to fit and work together seamlessly. A big reason why so many of our systems work so well is the Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO). They take a lot of the frustrations, headaches and friction out of the technology we rely on to run our businesses.
Data and technology are more important than ever before in this business. This is especially true for the MLS, something that's going through huge changes right now. The easier it is for all the MLS platforms to share data, the more we can collaborate to bring value to all consumers.
How does RESO allow real estate professionals to do their jobs better? What technology trends should we keep paying attention to?
In this episode, we're joined by the CEO of RESO, Sam DeBord. He shares why streamlining our systems and technology makes our industry more competitive and valuable.
Companies can be as creative as they want to be, but when they have to interface and exchange data, that's where it needs to fit the standard so these systems can talk. -Sam DeBord

In today's rapidly changing real estate industry, there's one thing a top agent can't go without - data. The more informed we are about the market, the better equipped we are to serve our clients.
All the disruptions we're facing mean more consumers are going to flock to quality. The only real estate pros who will win are the tech-enabled advisors, not the run-of-the-mill agents.
From interest rates to inventory, there are things we need to know if we want to be valuable. We might not have a crystal ball to know exactly what's going to happen, but data puts us in a better position to get ahead of the trends.
How do we use data to position ourselves better? What data points do we need to know like the back of our hand? When it comes to the DOJ, are we out of the woods? In this episode, we're joined by president of Housing Wire, Diego Sanchez. He shares how we can use data to our advantage and what we need to be aware of.
We're really rooting for the industry and our thesis is that it's the technology enabled advisor that's going to win. -Diego Sanchez

Since its announcement, the NAR settlement has garnered much discussion and debate in the real estate industry. Now that August 17 is squarely in the rearview mirror, it's time to ask the important questions.
What do the rules actually mean and how will they change how we work?
The settlement itself is a lengthy legal document with different stipulations and clauses. How do we decipher it all? What are the essential takeaways and things we should be doing differently?
The ultimate point of the settlement is to create more clarity in the transaction, and that will benefit both buyers and agents. How will the settlement allow us to operate at a higher level?
Today, we're joined by an attorney on the frontline of the changes we're dealing with. Hutchison & Steffen senior associate Piers Tueller shares what the settlement really means for the industry, why it's a good thing, and an important warning for agents looking for loopholes.
The people who are willing to operate as clearly as they can are going to be very successful. -Piers Tueller
Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode
-Transparency makes the transaction better
Agents forget how stressful the process of purchasing can be. There's often a lack of clarity that adds friction to the process. How will the settlement make things better and smoother?
-The worst thing you can do
There are some agents and brokers looking for settlement workarounds or loopholes and exceptions to the rule. How will this do more harm than good?
-What every agent should be doing right now
We might not have all the answers about how the settlement will change the industry. How do we put ourselves in the best position to navigate and anticipate what's going to happen?

In the wake of the settlement, one thing is clear - providing value is the only way to survive and thrive in this new world of real estate.
When agents think of the value they bring, they often list all the things they do - negotiation, being a consultant, getting the highest price for a listing and being great at their job.
Unfortunately, these things don't cut it anymore. If we think that's value, we're in deep trouble. Those are just aspects of the transaction. Any agent can do these things and in 2024, so can AI.
When we eliminate those things from the equation, what makes us valuable? Our stories and our lived experiences. Whether we share them on social media or share them in consultations, this is what will make people want to work with us and want to compensate us.
How do we use these stories to stand out in a crowded marketplace? What are the great things about the settlement and its changes to the industry?
In this episode, we're joined by co-founder and owner of Weinberg Choi Residential, Tommy Choi. He shares what it takes to win in real estate, and how we can use social media to showcase our value.
Storytelling is the ultimate way to convey value - because your story is one-of-one, it's authentic to you. -Tommy Choi
Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode
-Fog horns vs. lighthouses
There's 2 types of real estate agents - the ones who make a lot of noise and the ones who guide people to safety. How do you make sure you're in the right camp?
-How to eliminate buyer hesitation
Some agents are making consumers sign the buyer-broker in order to start showing them houses. What's the right way to bring the document into the conversation?
-The ultimate way to convey value
If there's one thing that sets us apart from everyone, it's our own unique stories. How do we build a library of stories and inject them into our content and communication?

On the list of things agents do to be successful, leveraging technology is an important task we can't overlook - especially now.
Whether we want to work more efficiently or serve our clients better, keeping up with the latest solutions is one way we can provide value and continue to deliver results.
Now of course, with all the things we do on a daily basis, we can't always keep tech top of mind. Between our schedules and adjusting to the new norm of real estate, it's hard to keep up with all the tech we could be leveraging in our businesses.
That's where NAR REACH comes in. They connect tech founders who want to serve the industry with the agents they are developing those solutions for. What are some of the tools they've had in their program? How are they working to preserve the agent's role in the transaction?
In this episode, we're joined by NAR REACH's Executive Director, Ashley Stinton. She talks about how the program is bridging the gap between tech and real estate.
Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode
-How NAR REACH connects agents with tech
There are many tech founders interested in creating solutions for real estate. How does NAR REACH help them develop solutions that truly serve agents and solve problems?
-How to incorporate tech into your business
Latest technology innovations can't always be front-of-mind for real estate agents. What's the easiest way to keep up with the latest solutions?
-Sustainable solutions vs. gut reaction solutions
As agents adjust to the changes brought on by the NAR settlement, what solutions are REACH exploring to help with this new landscape?

Here's the reality: in this new model, an agent who's good at what they do is going to garner the rate they're worth and the buyer is going to agree to it. -James Dwiggins
The NAR settlement has caused an industry shake-up so massive, it has many people questioning their future in real estate. Everyone's wondering if this shift will take them out of real estate entirely.
It doesn't have to.
The change is scary, but it's actually not a negative. It can be a lucrative opportunity for an agent who's providing value.
For the first time ever, a listing agent isn't dictating your compensation, and that means you can create a premium, elevated service a buyer can't resist. If you're making the buyer's experience better, there's no way you won't get paid well.
From tiered offerings to additional services after the home sells, the sky is now truly the limit!
If you're afraid of the change, ask yourself this: would a buyer pay for the service you provide right now? If not, how do you create a service so valuable a buyer will happily pay for it? How do you keep yourself out of hot water?
In this episode, we're joined by real estate insider and CEO of NextHome, James Dwiggins. He shares clear ways we can articulate our value and the unique opportunities agents can take advantage of.
