I actually learned about the Polyvagal Theory in Dr. Nicole LePera's book, "How to do the work", and it just clicked. I remember learning about the nervous system in school, but we really didnt discuss in depth what it looks like when it's dysregulated.
I have had a lot of stuff going on in my life this year, and learning about this helped me to understand what this feeling I had was, and how I can try to get my nervous system back to homeostasis, but also tone my vagal nerve. I have used a lot of Dr. LePera's work in this episode, as well as some other research I have done.
I would highly suggest reading her book, along with Dr. Stephen Porges book, "Polyvagal Theory", and "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk.
