As has been said before, the pandemic has brought the future forward and accelerated trends in so many industries, including philanthropy. In this NGPF podcast, you will hear from Soraya Alexander, the COO of Classy. She shares insights from their recent 2021 report on Why America Gives. Listen and learn more about how individuals shifted more of their giving online which makes it important for non-profits to make that checkout process as frictionless as possible (sound familiar to those who shop online?) In addition, she shares the generational differences on where individuals find causes to donate to, the type of organizations they donate to and the reasons behind their charity. Enjoy!
Mary Rossi brings an enthusiasm and passion to her role as Director of Financial Inclusion and U.S. Partnerships at the Global Thinking Foundation (GTF). Her financial empowerment workshops focus on students in fields such as acting, education, architecture, or social work. She also shares her plans to bring creative concepts that have worked in GTF's European offices to the United States. Enjoy!

Enjoy this conversation with Rick Ferri who shares his experience in financial services over the past 30 years. Rick started as a stock broker then went on to an asset management firm and now is a financial consultant (with a 6 month waiting list!) He discusses the motivation behind these moves and why he thinks providing financial advice on an hourly basis is the optimal model. You will also learn about a popular personal finance Q&A forum at Bogleheads.org where Rick plays a leadership role.
Dan Sheeks is a busy guy. As if being a high school personal teacher isn't all consuming enough, he is both a real estate investor and a founder of an online community. That community, SheeksFreaks, is made up of young people interested in strategies to gain financial independence. Dan is also an author of a new book, First to a Million. Listen to the podcast and complete this form and could be one of the first 100 educators to receive a FREE copy of his book. Enjoy!
My Classroom is a short NGPF podcast series devoted to supporting the efforts of teachers. Each week we will speak with different teachers who will share timely tips, resources, and teaching strategies that can be implemented immediately into the classroom.
This week, we welcome Dr. Greenfeld, who teaches Aerospace Engineering, Principles of Engineering, and Personal Finance in New York. She will share how she uses the Modern Classroom Project approach to engage students with the NGPF curriculum.
Robin Wigglesworth has done the impossible...he's written a book about index funds that, once you get started, you won't be able to put down. The index fund product itself may not be compelling, but the characters that Wigglesworth describes certainly are. He traces the growth of index funds and how they moved from a concept developed by academics to how they became the leading investment choice for mutual fund investors. Enjoy!

This week, we welcome Shawn Healy, Jim O’Connor, and Kimberly Huffman. They will share the approach they take, and the approach of other social studies educators when teaching personal finance. And they do a great job sharing the importance of personal finance for every high school student.
With more than three decades at Morningstar, John Rekenthaler has had a front row seat to the tectonic shifts in the mutual fund business. During his career, John has seen the industry go from one dominated by actively managed funds (e.g., Fidelity's Magellan fund) to one where index funds (e.g., Vanguard Total Stock Market Fund) now hold more than 50% of fund assets. We reminisce about John's early days of Morningstar where one could leaf through binders with information on hundreds of funds (yes, I relied on these reports for my earliest investments in mutual funds). Please be sure to check out John's thought pieces in his Morningstar column after listening to the podcast. Enjoy!
Welcome to a Special Edition of My Classroom, a short NGPF podcast series devoted to supporting the efforts of teachers. We typically speak with different teachers who will share timely tips, resources, and teaching strategies that can be implemented immediately into the classroom. For this week, we decided to share a recording of our Speaker Series with Philip Olson and Julia Lorenz-Olson, the Two Cents couple. Hear their story, the inspiration for the Two Cents videos, some of their favorites, and much more. Enjoy the show!
I met today's guest, Patrick Geddes, almost a decade ago when I was "kicking the tires" at Aperio, the investment management he co-founded. He was kind enough to sit down with me for more than an hour explain the "Aperio approach" to investing and I've been a happy client since. Today, you get the benefit of Patrick's wisdom gleaned from his decades of taking a research-based approach to investing. In this podcast, we explore his entrepreneurial journey from start-up to being acquired by BlackRock for $1.05 billion. As you listen, what will become clear is how energized Patrick is for this next chapter of his career. He will be bringing his passion and commitment to improving investor education.
We will discuss his forthcoming book, Transparent Investing, which may be available to teachers in the NGPF community in December (logistics still being worked out). Patrick will also be appearing at an NGPF Speaker Series event on January 20, 2022 and the general release of his book will be on January 25, 2022. Enjoy!
