NHL Unscripted with Virk and Demers

On a special holiday episode, Virk and Demers admit the impossible: they were both wrong about something. They also discuss the ongoing soap opera in Vancouver as well as what's the deal with the recently suspended (again) Matt Rempe. Then heavy metal legend Brian Slagel (22:11) stops by to talk about the colliding worlds of hockey and hard rock, not to mention the time he hung out with Metallica AND Jaromir Jagr. Finally, with so many players hitting the beach during the NHL holiday break Jason explains why Cabo is overrated.

With the holiday season in full swing, Adnan Virk and Jason Demers discuss a great night in Edmonton, the theory behind all these drones in New Jersey and why the NBA Cup is ridiculous. Then former NHL player Nate Thompson (21:30) shares his powerful message about mental health as well as his connection to the Jewish faith. Naturally, Adnan weighs in on the recent Academy Awards shortlist announcement and Jason shares plenty of stories about the time he thought he was drafted (he wasn't, yet) and the time he thought he was Jewish (he wasn't).

In a very special second episode, Adnan Virk and Jason Demers take a moment to appreciate their new podcast. From there, they evaluate a big week for the New York Rangers’ ongoing soap opera and figure out what will become of the Vancouver Canucks. Former Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato (18:12) then joins us to give his take on the NHL’s coaching carousel and his time mentoring some kid named Auston Matthews. Finally, Adnan goes all in on the Golden Globe nominations and we honor the tenth anniversary of Jason’s appearance in the San Jose Sharks’ legendary “Holiday Sweater” rap video.

In the premiere episode, Adnan Virk and Jason Demers say hello to the podcast world. It all starts with an in-depth look at the team rosters for the upcoming Four Nation Faceoff,  listing their most notable tournament snubs. After going through the biggest surprises and disappointments at the season’s quarter-pole mark the guys welcome special guest The Kid Mero (38:10) to discuss his love for the New Jersey Devils and his infamous fight with baseball legend Pedro Martinez. Finally, Adnan and Jason take a moment to discuss some of the most important issues of our time, like is it appropriate to sing along while watching Wicked in the movie theater.

Longtime broadcaster Adnan Virk and former NHL player Jason Demers team up to offer the latest and greatest from the world of hockey and beyond. Way beyond! The spirited talk will occasionally stray from the game and venture into topics ranging from food to movies to comedy to wrestling. An array of guests will also be dropping in to join the soiree. It’s all fair game when these two get together every week.
