You read correctly, listener - NO ENCORE’s friendship with Rick Rubin has ENDED. We jest, of course, and who better than Sonic Architect Adam to highlight other masters of their craft in the same field as our beloved Rick?
In this episode Adam joins Dave Hanratty to front a walk-through of producers that have had similar, sometimes even greater, cultural impact and influence on the world of music and what came after.
And now that we’ve gotten this far, let’s do another take, just to see what happens. And maybe we’ll try to make sure we’re on-key with this one, yeah?
ACT ONE (4:14): Dave & Adam recall the recent Enemies pop concert that they attended.
ACT TWO: Ed Sheeran is outside your gaff, The Rolling Stones are back with a new album, proving they really do gather no moss and Tom DeLonge reflects on his Blink-182 comeback - it’s the news!
ACT THREE (30:12): Top 5 Music Producers Not Named Rick Rubin

As well as your weekly dose of music news, strap in for a loud one this week. See you in the pit.
ACT ONE (5:15): A divisive musician's handwriting is called into question, Elon Musk and Grimes provide fresh irritation, Freddie Mercury's personal effects go under the hammer, and Olivia Rodrigo tells us just how rad she really is- it's the news!

Welcome to Before The ENCORE Season 2!
After nearly a whole year of a sabbatical, I'm delighted to be bringing you the first installment of the lastest BTE season, and with no other than Osazeejbass.
Osazee is a bass player, session musician and musical director known best for his work with his three-piece Afrobeat ensemble Neubrí, but you may know him from his session work with Efé, Alicia Raye, Platain Papi or, in my case, Shiv.
In this episode, we talk about what the role of a session musician is, what it's like to prepare a show for the 3Arena and the usual deep-dive into Osazee's beginnings in the world of music.
Thanks for your patience with our sudden disruptions to scheduled programming, regular show will be back next week.

All that... jazz (?) ...and a stacked news section, too.
ACT ONE (5:56): Hozier versus AI, Noel Gallagher shows some vulnerability, Billy Porter goes after Harry Styles again, and The Weeknd says goodbye to featured artists - it's the news.

Turn it ALL THE WAY UP.
It's time to take it to the next level with floor-filling, sky-scraping, European club-friendly mayhem.
NO ENCORE dives into the deeply euphoric world of Eurodance as the perpetually pulsating Hugh Carr makes his glorious return to the co-host microphone.
ACT ONE (5:19): The news section makes its long overdue return with festivals, Ed Sheeran, Corey Taylor, the original iPod, and two very irritating people all in the mix.
ACT TWO (34:13): Top 5 EURODANCE.

Make 'em laugh. NO ENCORE returns with a spring in its step as we pratfall, clown-style, head-first into the labyrinthine world of music-themed comedy.
Dave Hanratty admits that he's something of a sceptic when it comes to this most theatrical realm. Luckily, he has called on ace social media sensation Michael Fry to navigate the up-tempo terrain.
Michael is well-regarded for his own forays into music-focused sketch comedy, not least with his array of one-man indie band stylings. There are many aspects to the comedy and music collision, however, and Michael just so happens to be deeply fascinated by such methods.
And so he takes us on a side-splitting journey on this particularly melodic episode...

This week, Ireland and the world is in mourning following the tragic passing of Sinéad O'Connor.
A truly singular artist and a generational talent, she broke barriers as both musician and activist. Her passing at the age of 56 is devastating, and it really does feel like we've lost something, and indeed someone, of tremendous value and substance.
On this episode of NO ENCORE, Dave Hanratty is joined by music journalist and musicologist Andrea Cleary, Virgin Media News Correspondent Richard Chambers, and Julie Hough of HAVVK and Pixie Cut Rhythm Orchestra; all of whom offer their individual reflection and perspective, and what Sinéad O'Connor means to them.
Rest in power, and rest in peace, Sinéad.

We're delighted to welcome one of our favourite acts onto NO ENCORE this week – the resurrected force of blistering math-rock nature that is... Enemies!
A beloved, inventive staple on the independent Irish music scene for the guts of a decade until their disbandment in 2016, the Wicklow quartet were synonymous with a thriving sonic landscape that included contemporaries such as Adebisi Shank, Squarehead, BATS, Not Squares and other fiercely creative cult favourites.
Across their run, Enemies would release three records – 2010's breakthrough debut We've Been Talking, 2013's searching Embark, Embrace, and 2016's farewell record Valuables.
2023 brought news of an unexpected but welcome reunion for the original foursome of Lewis Jackson, Mark O'Brien, Eoin Whitfield, and Oisin Trench. And so it is that we are thrilled to sit down with Lewis and Mark to deep-dive into the entire Enemies story to date.
From mythical house parties and wide-eyed airport-based delusion, to deeply personal demands and unavoidable fractures, to touring the farthest-flung places on the world map and back, to a rebirth that was far from a guarantee – we've been talking, indeed.

Pack your sunglasses – we're going on an adventure.
Travel is a major theme this week in honour of our special guest co-host Caoi de Barra.
You will of course know Caoi as one-third of the acclaimed Wyvern Lingo. With that project currently on hiatus, Caoi has been exceedingly busy, both with her own solo work – new single 'Treehouse' is out now – and as a touring drummer with the great Wallis Bird, and rising Canadian artist Allison Russell.
Based in Berlin these days, Caoi has returned home for her 'Scooter Tour of Ireland' – the second such endeavour in travelling around Ireland on a trusty scooter from gig to gig, armed with just as many instruments as she can carry.
Tickets and dates for the tour are available here.
On this episode, Caoi takes us through all of the above, before we tackle our favourite songs about or inspired by travelling from place to place.
ACT ONE: Scooter tours, Glastonbury bucket list moments, self-perception amidst a tricky industry, life in Berlin, and so much more – Caoi de Barra in conversation.
ACT TWO (45:04): Top 5 Travel Songs
