Back in 2005, we here in the Midwest were shocked when, in nearby Wichita KS, Dennis Rader was revealed to be the serial killer known as BTK (an abbreviation he gave himself, for "bind, torture, kill"), the BTK Strangler or the BTK Killer.
Between 1974 and 1991, Rader killed ten people in Wichita and Park City, KS and sent taunting letters to police and newspapers describing the details of his crimes. After a decade-long hiatus, Rader resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his 2005 arrest and subsequent guilty plea.
And for over 10 yrs, forensic psychologist Dr. Katherine Ramsland has corresponded in hopes of learning more about what motivated a man, who on the surface appeared to be shockingly normal, to become a monster,
We had the chance to talk to Dr. Ramsland this more to find out more about this fascinating case.
