It didn’t start pretty but Illinois persevered some early shooting woes to take care of Kansas City 86-48 on Friday night in Champaign. What went well and what didn’t? Craig Choate and Logan Lee discuss in this Illini Postgame Show from No One Asked Us.
The Illini missed 15 straight shots early in the game, and their first 12 3-point attempts, but responded on their way to a 16-point halftime lead. Illinois (2-0) continued the hot streak in the 2nd half and outscored the Roos by 22 to win it.
Dain Dainja was a monster putting up 20 points and 15 rebounds, to go along with 5 blocks. He’s only the 2nd Illini since 2010 to put up 20-15 in a game, the other being Kofi Cockburn. Terrence Shannon, Jayden Epps, and Skyy Clark were the other Illini to score in double figures.
Illinois hosts Monmouth (0-2) on Monday night at 9:00 ET/8:00 CT on Big Ten Network.
Dain Dainja: 20 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks, 9-11 FGs
Terrence Shannon Jr.: 14 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists
Jayden Epps: 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists
Illini: 30-64 FG (46.9%), 8-27 3 (29.6%), 18-26 FT (69.2%)

We got our first glimpse of the new-look Illinois basketball team on Friday, a 87-52 win over Quincy. Coleman Hawkins and RJ Melendez lead the way scoring with 15, Hawkins also grabbed 12 rebounds. Cubs fans are all up in their feels after Nolan Arenado opted-in to the final five years of his deal with the St. Louis Cardinals. Logan tried to keep calm while Craig explains what he thinks happened with Arenado and the Cardinals front office.

Illinois football didn’t take the field this week, but that just meant they had time to go recruiting. And that time seems to have paid off. The Illini picked up verbal commits from prep defensive back Saboor Karriem, prep defensive lineman Alex Bray, and JUCO offensive lineman Dez’Mond Schuster. Craig Choate and Logan Lee give their thoughts and preview the matchup with Nebraska in this episode of No One Asked Us.
Illinois and the Cornhuskers kick off at 3:30 ET on ABC on Saturday from Lincoln.
Logan is befuddled by his Power Rankings, specifically the 6 through 10 spots. Craig is more confident, he also maintains a lead in Pick Your Pick.
Illinois basketball takes the court for the first time on Friday for their lone exhibition game, and they’ll do it short handed. Luke Goode suffered a broken foot in the “secret” scrimmage against Kansas last week. He’s out indefinitely. The guys react to that news and discuss the ZZ Clark decommitment.
MLB Postseason talk and World Series picks also given, as well as relegation coming to the NBA?
