Our guest on this episode is Chris Voss and we’ve wanted to have him on the show for a LONG time! Chris is a former international hostage negotiator for the FBI whose career brought him face-to-face with bank robbers and terrorists. His résumé is extremely impressive: he became the FBI’s lead international kidnapping negotiator, he’s taught negotiation at leading universities, given speeches that have had millions of views, and he’s now sharing with us the negotiation skills that helped him save lives.
Chris says life is a series of negotiations you should be prepared for and he explains all about that in his book, Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if your life depended on it. Chris is the founder and CEO of the Black Swan Group which trains businesses, individuals, law enforcement and government personnel in negotiations.

It is an absolute joy to welcome our guest on this episode, Amy Purdy. Nineteen years ago, when Amy was just 19, she contracted a form of meningitis, which led to septic shock and the loss of both of her legs, her kidneys and her spleen. Amy has done all of that and more! Among other things, she is a three-time Paralympic medalist in snowboarding, a runner-up on Dancing With The Stars, and the author of the best-selling autobiography, On My Own Two Feet: From Losing My Legs to Learning the Dance of Life. The misuse of, and addiction to, opioids — including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl — is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. But, how did it become such a big problem? For some insight into that, we turn to award-winning journalist Sam Quinones, who’s the author of the book, “Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic”.
