In this episode, old sport, we ponder whether or not Nick is gay and how he is definitely Gatsby's groupie, discuss the interpretation of the very last line, Kaitlin proposes some essay ideas for high school students, old sport, the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy, and, old sport, we revisit a time in high school when we had to try and convince a teacher we didn't cheat on a quiz! How about that, old sport!

WE MADE IT. The finale of What We Do in the Shadows' fourth season has aired and as you can tell by the length of this episode-we had a lot to say! And so did Emberlin's cat Manny, you'll be sure to hear all of his thoughts on the finale too. For this episode, we were finally able to record in person together! We had so much fun and the opportunity may or may not have come with a price. We share our favorite parts of the episode including the return of our favorite beige sweater wearing energy vampire, Guillermo taking charge and breaking the cycle of monotony, Matt Berry's musical chops and...James Corden?!?!?!

Welcome to our first installment of our Back to School Reads! This month we'll be revisiting four books we had to read in high school to answer the question: can we enjoy a book if we're not teenagers being told to read it for a grade? The answer varies with each book! To kick things off we're starting with a Freshman year classic-'The Outsiders' by S.E. Hinton. 

In this episode we discuss ghosts, callbacks, key copying, we receive our very first caller, Kaitlin has a a revelation about the first time she read this book, and Emberlin proposes an idea at the end of the podcast that may or may not come back to bite us later.

In our final episode of Jane Austen August, we talk all things Persuasion! Well, Emberlin does, Kaitlin didn't learn her lesson on why she shouldn't use audiobooks. Every week we think 'there's no way they could top last week's episode!' and we keep getting proven wrong. You love to see it. In our review of What We Do in the Shadows, Episode 8, much like one of the characters in this episode, we commit to the bit of home renovation by bringing you the sweet sounds of construction in the background of Emberlin's recording. That's only because she's hired Toby and Bran to build her a walk-in dungeon for her interns. We continue to question if Marwa is okay, praise the brilliant direction of this episode, and ponder what may happen in the last two episodes. Needless to say, we're scared! :D

We ponder what the ominous music might mean that plays behind the small weird creature that clawed its way out of the abdominal cavity of the deceased former friend Colin Robinson, Marwa is living in a horror movie, Nadja and Guillermo unlock a new friendship while Nandor and Laszlo rekindle theirs and how this show has the perfect balance of humor and heartfelt moments.

In our second week of Jane Austen August, we discuss the 1815 comedy Emma! In this episode we discuss our favorite modern adaptions of the novel, the iconic lines that still hit hard today, Kaitlin's totally unbiased opinions about Emma (2020) and being clueless about Clueless (1995), and how Emma Woodhouse is such a strong and uniquely written character. Huh?! Hello?! Did you see what we saw?! How is everyone doing in the wake of 'The Wedding' because not even food poisoning could stop Emberlin from yelling with Kaitlin about Season 4, Episode 6 of What We Do in the Shadows. We yell a lot and the audio pops at times and it's all because MARWA LIKES ALL THE SAME THINGS NANDOR LIKES!?!?! HELLO?! 

In this episode, Nandor is so stressed about his wedding being perfect that his best.....man Guillermo is running on no sleep and redbull, everyone wants to sleep with the Baron, and the Djinn grants Nandor a wish that may be a surprise tool we’ll use for later. Honestly, we're still processing the events of this episode and what it all means for the future of the show and the character dynamics that it's reduced us to speaking in incoherent noises. We need to go watch 'Go Flip Yourself' to calm down a little.
