This Friday is the 67th anniversary of James Dean's death.  Earlier the day of his accident, the Hollywood icon was pulled over and cited for speeding just south of Bakersfield. That's not the only Bakersfield connection to Dean. Warren Beath, a Bakersfield resident, is an expert regarding the facts surrounding  Dean's accident. I interviewed Warren Beath for this episode of Notorious Bakersfield.

Most of these stories aren't based on any evidence whatsoever. These rumors have given this iconic Bakersfield landmark an unfortunate reputation. However, this Notorious Bakersfield story you're about to hear about the Padre is documented, verifiable, and true.

Often times I run across stories I'd like to cover, yet the stories aren't substantial enough for a single episode. So I decided I'd start covering these stories, put two or three together, and include them in a single episode. These particular episodes will be called Notorious Bakersfield Shorts. This is the first such episode.

Story 1: BREAKING BAD BAKERSFIELD STYLE. A story about a CSUB associate professor who manufactured PCP/angel dust in the college's chemistry lab.

Story 2: MURDER AT TACO BELL. About a shotgun slaying of a Taco Bell employee.

Story 3: THE PERCOLATOR PERPETRATOR. A story about a series of coffee house robberies in and around downtown Bakersfield.

On May 16, 1978, eight-year-old Jason went to see if his friend Jeremy could play. A man answered the door and said Jeremy couldn't play. Little Jeremy couldn't play because he was dead...likely bludgeoned to death by the man who answered the door.
