OH DAY OF DAYS! Playdate Season 2 is HERE.

And what a barnstorming first week, with Fulcrum Defender, Dig Dig Dino and Blippo+ gracing our little yellow squares.

Crank to survive in rogue-like score chaser Fulcrum Defender, get excavating with Dig Dig Dino, and have your brain frazzled by the interdimensional cable of Blippo+.

Panic! We love you!

How's Jonathan finding that new Oblivion remaster? And how does it compare to the semi-recent PS5 port of Skyrim?

What exactly is Harold's Walk and why is Chris so keen to get people to check it out?

What about Blue Prince is making Jonathan and Chris all giddy?

And Finland? Baba is You! Sega Rally Revo (on a technicality)! Videogames! -

No way! It’s NORWAY!

The boys touch down in Scandinavia to big up pairing of Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley and Draugen, two lovely games of Norwegian developmental descent.

But that’s not it. OH NO.

Ruminations of Playdate Season 2! Extended (and late) thoughts from Jonathan on Diablo IV! Micro reviews of a whole bunch of Steam games that Chris claims you should care about!

Surprise!

We’re back a few days early with a bonus episode all about the Switch 2.

The PRICE! The POWER! The POTENTIAL!

What are the boys happy about? What are the boys unsold on? And what’s ruffled Chris’ feathers specifically about Nintendo’s retail strategy for this next gen?

YOU CAN PLAY AS A COW IN MARIO KART WORLD

We’re in Croatia, ladies and gents, and we’re checking out a Croteam double bill: The Talos Principle and Serious Sam.

Also! Can Chris talk about Tetris Forever without getting weepy and emotional? How has Jonathan found the brand spanking new Monster Hunter Wilds? And what’s possessed Chris to boot up the original Call of Duty 2 (as well as Sonic ‘06?!).

It’s March!

Jonathan and Chris visit Taiwan to sample gaming delights, both old and new. How’s that new ‘Tao-punk’ metroidvania Nine Sols? And what was going on in China and Taiwan in the 90s with bootleg games development and publishing?

Of course, before we get to slurp down this bubble tea of regional content, there’s other games to cover.

Chris becomes re-enamoured (or is that re-obsessed?) with the Nintendo 3DS and its many post-Nintendo homebrew charms and Jonathan struggles to fill the post Xenoblade lull with dribs and drabs of mobile runner Rodeo Stampede and the Elden Ring Nightreign network test.

We did it! And by ‘it’, we mean ‘2024’. And by ‘did’ we mean ‘survived’.

Videogames helped. Videogames always help. And so we’ve opted, as is tradition, to get together to regale and delight one another as well as YOU fair listener, with tales of the games that made 2024.

Big AAA games! Indie games! Games exclusive to the Playdate! Games that came out a few years ago! Games that came out 20 years ago! Games that may come out next year, or beyond!

FUN

What will we crown as our individual games of the year?

Y’know how in these episodes we always talk about a bunch of games? Well this month we REALLY talk about a bunch of games, no foolin’, NO CAP.

Here is a list of the games we discuss in case you want to play along like a book club or something. Would you believe that some of them are developed in Spain too so that we can maintain the central conceit of this season’s over-arcing narrative premise?
