Jonathan bests a potential addiction to a new F2P money sink and decorates his attaché case in Resident Evil 4 Remake as Chris mines the Evercade library for shiny jewels.

Can you AFFORD to miss this?

Would you believe that there’s more bleedin’ Dead Cells talk in here?

Jonathan approaches his final form in the little roguelite that could whilst Chris curses the in-house focus groups at Sega for making Sonic Frontiers into… whatever it is.

On the Playdate this week: RPG adjacent not-quite-em-up Inventory Hero, and Cooking Mama: Cauldron Edition (otherwise known as Spellcorked).

There’s also a lot of laughing, so y’know, if you hate fun, get lost.

What’re ya buyin’? What’re ya’ playin’?

Not the RE4 Remake demo, that’s for sure.

Jonathan Dunn enjoys returning to Dead Cells and its expansive, luxurious Castlevania inspired makeover.

Chris continues Harvestella, grinds his head against the rough surface of Monster Jam Crush It, and gets back into the Evercade in anticipation for receiving the new EXP handheld.

Is this the best week of the Playdate’s season so far?

(spoilers: probably!)

Jonathan and Chris pick apart what makes the arcadey, Nights Into Dreams-inspired Star Sled such a riot, and gawp at the sheer artistry on show in traditional point and click Saturday Edition.

Plus! More Theatrhythm! Some highlights from the Nintendo Switch Online emulation suite! Post-patch shrugs for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet! A soft recommend for the jank of Road Redemption! As well as some initial confusion as to what farm ‘em up, slash ‘em up Harvestella is and / or wants to be.

After a wee break for holibobs, the boys reconvene to catch up on The Callisto Protocol Dead Space worship, Chocobo GP’s sunset months, Farmside’s Premium-Freemium bucolia, and Theatrhythm’s ludicrous generosity.

Plus, a huge segue about guns and the UK postal service for some reason.

Thoughts and opinions on Nintendo’s recent Direct are HERE, baby! What are we excited for? What were we surprised by? What do we laugh at?

THEN:

Jonathan completes his romp through the Metroid Prime trilogy with his first playthrough of the third entry in the series, and garnishes his time with Retro Studio’s take on Samus Aran with a revisit to the inaugural entry via newly released Metroid Prime Remastered.

Chris gets nostalgic for Xbox Live Indie Games classics like Apple Jack, weeps into his palms at the relentlessness of The Sims on Playstation 2, and reappraises 2016’s The Division in light of the real world pandemic.

Let’s make it easy for both you and us. What’s in the episode you ask? Well, I’m going to tell you, RIGHT BLOODY NOW.

This week we will present thoughts on the following games, in this EXACT order. No foolin’. No messin’. No tricks.

METROID PRIME 2

FORZA HORIZON 4

DEAD SPACE REMAKE

EXECUTIVE GOLF DX

QUESTY CHESS

How ‘bout that then?

What have we been playing this week?

RPGs!

Rice Pudding Games

How’s ol’ Jonathan Dunn getting on with his Metroid Prime Trilogy replay? Does the recent Dead Space remake hold up to the original? Is Chris still playing Fish ‘n Feathers on the Playdate? Does the ‘Valve Playable’ Forza Horizon 4 really work that well on Steam Deck? And what connects Earth Defense Force to ‘bullet heaven’ games like Vampire Survivors?

After being quietly tucked into our pockets over Christmas, the Playdate makes its big return with, dare I say it, its strongest weekly pairing yet?

How does Hyper Meteor pay homage to and iterate on the arcade classic Asteroids? Why is Zipper better than Ghosts of Tsushima? What sideloaded treats has Chris been playing this week in between the season’s meatier entries?

PLUS, all the usual guff you’ve come to expect about the big AAA games Jonathan managed to scythe through in a number of days, and the rubbish Chris has focussed on that, quite literally, no one else in the world is preoccupied with.

HEY-OH!

We’re back, and at least partially rested from our festive bonanza to talk, to you dear listeners, about videogames.

What have we spent the last month playing? And how did we get on with our Christmas homework to play Silver and James Pond 2: Codename: RoboCod?

Including thoughts on:

SONIC FRONTIERS
BABYLON’S FALL
THUMPER
POKÉMON PICROSS
FAERIE SOLITAIRE
VAMPIRE SURVIVORS
BROTATO
(oh, and SILVER and JAMES POND 2 as well)
