Odd and Untold

Connecticut is a well-known hotbed for Bigfoot encounters. And just last month, a story out of New London County made headlines when a witness claimed he saw an enormous, eight-foot-tall creature crossing a road near the Pachaug River in the early morning hours.

So this week, I'm taking a closer look at exactly what this driver says he saw while making his way home to Rhode Island—and I'll also explore some of the other strange encounters reported around Pachaug State Forest, Old Mystic Village, and Norwich.

Mysterious creatures disappearing into the woods, strange nighttime encounters, and even some bizarre reports of Sasquatch rummaging through dumpsters.

Are these simply misidentified animals and local legends—or could something much stranger be roaming the forests of southeastern Connecticut?

Pennsylvania has played an important part in America's History. And Bucks County hosted one of the most famous moments of our country's founding, Washington crossing the Delaware in December 1776. Wood Devils. That's what people in New Hampshire call their version of Bigfoot. Known to be lankier and more gaunt in appearance than their other Bigfoot brethren, they tend to be very shy, hiding behind trees or standing perfectly still so as not to be spotted by people. Alaska is often referred to as the last frontier. With its vast stretches of unmapped and unexplored wilderness and abundant food and water sources, it's the perfect habitat for Bigfoot. The Great Smokey Mountains of North Carolina have a long tradition of eerie folklore, including ghost towns, haunted locations, strange paranormal phenomena, and of course, Bigfoot sightings. This week I'll be looking at some Bigfoot encounters in Swain County, which holds more of the Great Smokey Mountains State Park than any other county. A woman and her husband spot Bigfoot on a road along the Little Tennessee River; vacationers spend a restless night in their cabin haunted by howls and screams; Sasquatch footprints are found in deep snow on the Appalachian Trail by a hiker; and a backpacker finds a strange footprint by a creek in Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
