今天来一个带有seat的俚语
by the seat of your pants
凭经验,凭感觉,凭直觉
the seat of your pants / trousers 指的是裤子上屁股的位置
这个俚语最早是20世纪中期飞行员们使用的,fly by the seat of your pants,意思是不根据导航设备的数据,而是根据飞机当时的飞行状况,依靠经验和直觉而来驾驶飞机。
当没有一个明确的计划或者方向时,根据我们的经验与直觉去做决定时,经常会用到这个表达 (fly) by the seat of one's pants.
If you do something by the seat of your pants, you do it using only your own experience and trusting your own judgment.
