No Safe Harbour, part of the Dear Canada series from Scholastic, is another solid, educational read which once more proves why we're such fans of the series. The terrible story of the not-well-enough-known man-made explosion at Halifax during WWI isn't entirely easy to learn about, but it's certainly important and as accessible to middle grade readers as possible. We're never really sure what Disney will come up with to cause us to clutch our pearls, but we're glad when Pixar still comes through. Soul was a pleasantly surprising family-friendly, positive, affirming story about finding meaning in life and celebrating how joy can be found in simple things. Sure, the story somehow talks about souls without mentioning Divinity or religion, but it's still enjoyable and mainly portrays the right kind of message.
