  • 206: The Chemicals That Make Kids Happy and Motivated with Loretta Breuning
"It doesn't matter what you choose to do. Your child is going to grow up, have things to deal with, have things that they're going to need to reprogram". - Guy and Ilan Ferdman"
The Chemicals That Make Kids Happy and Motivated with Loretta Breuning
Loretta Breuning was a Professor of Management for 25 years. She got interested in studying the real substance of motivation, which is chemical. This started when she noticed that her students and her own children were not very motivated. She focuses on what she called the happy chemicals, which are dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins. And every one of them has a specific job to do, which is different. They reward you for behaviors that promote survival in the state of nature, even though you're not thinking.
She started to study the kind of motivation with kids. She also shared a book of "habits of a happy brain". The book shares how can you show kids in a simple way that they can do it? And also the book talks a lot about reprogramming. Loretta talks about serotonin a lot. We'd love to kind of start the conversation there because, for us, that was fascinating. And by the way, the next book she is zooming in on the serotonin piece. The purpose of her book is to sort of broaden up and realize that there are lots of different ways to feel good, instead of relying on one. You can build new circuits to have more sorts of tools in your toolkit.
"Each of us is unique because each of us was built from the random chance of their early experience. Loretta Breuning"
    Important Notes:
Have endless happy chemicals while sitting on the couch for no reason.
Serotonin rewards you with a good feeling when you assert and prevail. But I would call it calm confidence.
If you feed your brain new experiences, a new pathway will build.
Oxytocin is what makes it creates social trust.
    Making a decision.
Learning to decide in a healthy way and where to invest your energy rather than to chase a lost cause.

"Create harmony between your heart and your mind; use the sensations and the feelings to inform the mind. Using the will of the mind to create, but also use the intention of the heart to actually source the material".
    Important Notes:
    ·        Picturing your goal

  • 204: Facing Your Fears: A Guide to Self Worth
"If you're in unworthiness, and you take action out of unworthiness, the action will result in more unworthiness or scarcity or fear". - Guy and Ilan Ferdman
Facing Your Fears: A Guide to Self Worth
In this episode, we decided to bring you a recording of one of our community trainings because this one was incredible and full of wisdom nuggets. The questions we received were great for anyone looking to go deeper into their own personal growth. Here's an overview of a few topics we covered:
Our guest Erica is dealing with conflicts and guilt over a guy who she thinks was an abuser and manipulator with her life. Kim keeps getting into relationships that never become closer intimately. Jamie wants support on how to get over childhood trauma. We go one by one in depth on these topics and more.
Tune in to this conversation to here discussions on personal development, facing fears, awareness, healing and much more.
"The truest form of this work is getting into connection with another, that can give you a clean reflection as I said, and start to heal".
“If you stop focusing your life and trying to make yourself feel better, and instead you focus on the just feeling more literally building a capacity to feel more about what you may find. Start accepting more of the world, you start realizing that you were always worthy”.
    The Cliff Notes:
    ·         In order to overcome a huge level of pain, that your system had no idea how to deal with, you created certain protection mechanisms. These protection mechanisms are what show up in situations when you get triggered.
    ·         You can't control what people say, you can't control how people feel. You can’t control what people think.
    ·        There's no perfect person out there that's going to see you the way that you want to be seen, give you the things that you want to be given, the connection that you want to get. The only person that knows how you want to receive it is you.
    Time Stamps:

  • 203: How to Truly Stop Binge Eating With Glenn Livingston
“You don't have to solve all your emotional problems before you can stop overeating. What you need to do is recognize and disempower that voice of justification.” - Glenn Livingston
    (click to tweet)
Eating disorders or impulsive food habits are no stranger to our society. Junk food is available around the corner from you no matter where you are. Considering that we’re constantly surrounded by flavor bombs of unhealthy food, it’s no wonder so many people struggle with binge eating and food addictions.
There are a few ways to go about addressing food addictions but, of course, some are more effective than others.
That’s why on today’s episode of Personal Development Without The Fluff, we are joined by author of “Never Binge Again,” Glenn Livingston to share with us his weight-loss journey. A journey that involved overcoming a severe emotional addiction to something that you wouldn’t expect to hear… Stay tuned to find out!
You can learn more about Glenn Livingston here.
    Enjoy!
"Character trumps willpower because your decisions are made for you."- Glenn Livingston
    (click to tweet)
    The Cliff Notes:
Emotions aren't necessarily the primary cause of an eating disorder but they may lead to one.
Setting day-specific diet limits is an effective way to prevent binging.
Junk food essentially makes you high from overloading your tastebuds with pleasure.
Food advertisements can influence you even if you think they don’t.
Treat your voice of justification as if it’s not part of you.
By setting a strict systematic limit on your consumption, it becomes easier to ignore random impulse cravings.
Your feelings should not determine your food consumption.
When you know you’ll never have a specific food again, you’ll stop craving it.
“I think that there are some scars that don't go away entirely. I think any formerly obese person can tell when someone used to be fat because there's a certain shame on our face that doesn't ever go away entirely.”- Glenn Livingston

  • 202: The Key to Being an Effective Parent with Kim Ades
“Life provides a million natural consequences. Let's tune into those without having to create new ones that aren't always relevant.”
     - Kim Ades(click to tweet)

How many times do you find yourself telling your kid to stop this or stop that? How many times do you have to tell them to go to their room or threaten to take their phone away?
    It gets frustrating doesn’t it?
How about we try to do things a little differently this time around. Hit the play button to find out what we mean1
On today’s episode of Personal Development Without The Fluff, we are joined by Kim Ades, who is the Founder and President of JournalEngine(tm) Software and Frame of Mind Coaching. Kim discusses more effective parenting methods with us that may seem counterintuitive but are actually more logical than traditional methods.

Tune in to this conversation to put a new parenting tool in your toolbox that might make your job feel much less strenuous!
You can learn more about Kim at https://www.frameofmindcoaching.com/
“As parents we tend to make things a lot worse than they need to be.” - Kim Ades(click to tweet)
    The Cliff Notes:
We have a tendency to micromanage children but that's not really a parent’s job.
When we, as parents, focus on managing our own behavior rather than our children's behavior, everything changes.
Leaders who micromanage tend to hit a ceiling that halts further progress.
We tend to assign too much meaning to every little behavior of our kids.
Micromanaging our children interferes with their ability to grow.
Although it's not our job to micromanage our children, it is our job to help them manage themselves.
You don't have control over others. You only have control of your own response to others.
It's important to teach our children that they don't have to follow the beaten path to be successful.
“Anytime a kid acts out and does something in violence, it's because they don't have the tools to express what they need and want. They're stuck.”

  • 201: What to do When You’re Feeling Like a Grumpy Little Bitch
“Everything in our pattern system shows up at a certain level of stress and anxiety.”- Guy & Ilan Ferdman
    (click to tweet)

Lots of us have our moments of being short-fused. Sometimes things just tick you off at the worst times.
Can you remember that time when you had a frustrating day, and then at the end of that day, you accidentally dropped your keys and were unreasonably infuriated? Yeah.. those days...
    We all have them.
Well, on today’s episode of Personal Development Without The Fluff, we’re discussing what you can do when you feel incredibly grumpy and short on patience.

Tune in to this conversation to find some peace when you feel the most annoyed.

“A lot of times people don't give credit to transformation because it looks incremental and doesn't look quantum.” - Guy & Ilan Ferdman
    (click to tweet)
    The Cliff Notes:
Children's feelings of emotional safety are influenced by your energy towards them.
The universe continuously gives opportunities to feel through the emotions you run from.
When things are going “too” well, it's natural for your mind to want to fabricate problems.
No matter what stage you're at, having a mentor is always a beneficial practice.
There is more to gratitude than simply forcing yourself to journal about things you're grateful for.
You may experience the same stresses as you grow, but you’re not experiencing them as the same person you were.
Your transformation comes bit by bit rather than all at once.

  • 200: Insights From a Lifetime of Personal Development With Dr. John Demartini
“I tell people how important it is to get clear about what they really value and prioritize in life because if not, you'll subordinate to the world on the outside and not honor the magnificence on the inside.”
    - Dr. John Demartini

Life can feel like a goose chase when you’re aspiring to be someone else. We have a tendency to passively hunger after what isn’t part of our journey. Instead, we should become more conscious of how magnificent each and every one of us is capable of being.

“A lot of people compare themselves to others instead of comparing their daily actions to their own highest values. They envy and try to imitate other people which is sort of a suicide of their own magnificence.” - Dr. John Demartini
    (click to tweet)
    The Cliff Notes:
When you live life by priority, you train your brain to start enabling your progress.
Comparing your life to others will make you miss out on your own magnificence.
The priorities of one's life should be intrinsically inspiring for them.
When you're following your passion, your resilience is naturally stronger.
It’s not just about the destination, it’s about the fulfillment of the journey.
Life is an endless process of refining.
Having a vision that extends far past your death stabilizes you in this life.
Science and religion can complement each other. They don't have to be viewed as mutually exclusive.

  • 199: How Practicing Non-Attachment Can Create More Favorable Outcomes
“There's this law in the universe that seems to adhere itself to neutrality.” - Guy & Ilan Ferdman
    (click to tweet)

Priorities are a big part of how we operate in life. They help us organize, focus, invest time and have a vision. However the amount of importance you put on something might not mean you get the results you want out of it.
Do you ever have instances where there’s something you’ve been wanting so bad that you’re constantly swimming upstream to get it? You keep chasing it but then you eventually let it go. And before you know it, that thing you wanted falls right into place for you.
Sometimes life just works out that way.
That’s why on today’s episode of Personal Development Without The Fluff, we’re discussing the benefits of learning to lower the amount of importance you place on certain aspects or goals of your life. This can be anything from finances to career plans.
Tune in to this conversation to give yourself a break from overwhelming yourself.
Visit satoriprime.com/meditate to learn the meditation technique we discuss in this episode.
“All these times in my life I've seen how making something important doesn't lead me to where I want to go. In fact it does quite the opposite. It creates more resistance to getting there.”  - Guy & Ilan Ferdman
    (click to tweet)
    The Cliff Notes:
Stop looking for the answer and realize that the answer is always changing.
Our very universe is essentially a balancing act.
We are continuously manifesting from our present place/state at every moment.
Regardless of whether you hate or love something, the more energy you focus into it, the more energy it gets.
Focus your meditation on becoming aware rather than focusing on clearing your mind.
“Mind over matter” is not the solution to discomfort.
Faking your self-confidence can cost you your self-confidence.
Learn to find safety in yourself before chasing money for safety.

Do you ever question why it seems like it takes you forever to grasp something that your peers might master in minutes? On the contrary, do you get frustrated when someone isn’t grasping something that you find effortless?
Learning is different for everyone. From childhood, we’re forced into a one-size-fits-all system. The problem is it doesn’t actually fit many of us. We’re only taught what to learn rather than how to learn.

    (click to tweet)
    The Cliff Notes:
There are several different ways to learn than what you’ve always been taught.
We can use our learning struggles as motivators to find our own learning strengths.
Humanity isn’t designed to be stuck at a desk all day and “learn.”
Medication isn’t really the solution but it can catapult us towards a solution.
Money is a valid incentive grow because money allows more freedom.
Know why you want to become a super-learner and how your brain works best.
We’ve developed a habit of not using our memory because of modern technology.

Most of us see certain things as important only because society has told us we need to.
