When you think of goals, you generally think of obtaining a specific outcome, right? That is exactly how I have set my goals in the past, until this year. Don't get me wrong, goals should be measurable, and there is nothing wrong with outcome goals. I still use them; however, my focus has shifted from obtaining specific outcomes to obtaining general mastery of skills. Outcome goals are usually accomplished through mastery of a series of basic skills, and those skills are gained through regular practice. Break goals down into skills required to accomplish those goals, and break down skills into daily practices that help develop those skills.

How much time do you spend fulfilling someone else's dreams? How much time to you spend fixing other people's problems? Have you ever broken down how you spend your time each day? When you take a look at how much time you are spending taking care of other people and their tasks and problems, the time most people spend taking care of themselves equates to 2% or less. Are you worth that little? It's time to take back a little more time for yourself, for your physical and mental health... and it will not only make you happier, but more efficient and effective at all your other duties and responsibilities.
