    Happy Monday!
Happy Monday! We can not believe it is almost September! What a year we are having. Life is coming at us fast, but it's nothing we can't handle. Today we have two very loved guests! Resident Earth Mama, Autumn Warren Connolly is back again to discuss the cerebrals. Logan Shiels, Resident Beauty Guru is here to talk about something near and dear to her heart.
    Autumn Warren Connolly
Autumn Connolly lives in the sky islands of Arizona with her three kiddos and animal babies. She is the creator of Anvil Traditional Healing, a company dedicated to restoring microbiome health through diet. Follow Autumn on Instagram @AnvilTraditionalHealing. Autumn is a self-taught vegan chef, a serial gardener and an avid believer and teacher of the powers of meditation.
    Facts Aren't Feelings
What an interesting topic! Autumn and Bernadette reference a book on tape, "Feeling Is The Secret," by Neville Goddard. From what we got from it, consciousness is the substance of the entire world. With knowing that conciseness is the one reality, we can find truth in our feelings. We must change the pattern in our minds and always make it a positive one! We truly can ignore the negative energies swirling around us if we really try. Our brains are powerful enough! It is easier to believe the negative things about ourselves rather the positive, but we can indeed believe the positive. You are good enough! Relish in your feelings of success to program your brain to be positive. The subconscious has the same thoughts as our conscious, so it's really just the computer.

There are two kinds of consciousness! The conscious is male, the subconscious is female. Bernadette inquires if females are "better" at feelings than men. Autumn tells us that the male/female idea is more allegorical. However, society speaking, women are ruled by their feelings more than men. The subconscious is something than we can not change without the act of the conscious. We need both the male and female, the subconscious and the conscious to function! The mind is a powerful tool, do not forget that! Mindfulness is important to remember too when changing the course of your thinking. Speak things into existence! Use "I am" statements! Never "I am not."
    Logan Shiels
Logan Shiels is an Oklahoma girl who has planted her roots in Dallas, TX. As a veteran of the beauty industry as a hair stylist now at ERA Salon in Dallas, Logan has become a beauty guru. Logan is the co-owner of the Uncommon Man clothing boutique alongside her husband, Kyle, as well as a charity advocate. Whichever hat she’s wearing, her goal is to always make the people around her feel and be their best. When she’s not hustling in one of her careers, you can find Logan traveling, working out, or doing some self-care or just drinking Rose on a hot Texas day. Today, we are getting a little real, because let’s face it, life can get in the way. Today we will talk about the intersection between beauty and death, and what we can do to overcome grieving to see the beauty in departure.
    Beauty In Death
Of course death is going to cause some sorrow, but it’s a chance we all get to celebrate the lives our loved ones lived, all they meant to you and all he happy moments that came with it. We should be honored that we get to honor some ones life. Death can cause happiness. It’s the happiness that the soul is free from all things evil; pain, materialistic things, hurt. Free from things that hold them back and are able to rest in eternal peace.  We can honor our lost loved ones beautifully! Take everything that you have learned from that person, and put it into action. Nobody is completely dead until the waves that they have put on this world are still. Till the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.

  • #1314, Furry Friday With The SPCA and DAS

    Happy Furry Friday!
It's our favorite day of the week! Happy Furry Friday everyone! We love our pets extra special on Fridays, so we sometimes give them a special Castor & Pollux treat! As the leader and maker of America’s #1 organic pet food, Castor & Pollux has set a new standard with the most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful pet food. Today we have two furry friend lovers, Maura Davies and Leah Backo of Dallas Animal Services, so stick around.
    Maura Davies
Maura Davies is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications at the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Texas. As a longtime friend of One Life Radio, Maura is with us almost every Friday!
    How Cats and Dogs Communicate
Dogs and cats can get their signals crossed. Tail positions are a great place to start! A wagging tail on a dog means it is happy! A wagging tail on a cat means "I am ready to pounce. Stay Away." So, If cat sees a dog wagging it's tailing coming towards him, the cat may swat. Dogs and Cats greet each other differently too! If you've ever seen two cats meet, they will typically boop noses and sniff each other's breath! With dogs, you know it, they sniff butts. But sniffing is like sniffing a bar code for dogs! Dogs and cats also vocalize for different reasons! Cats meow almost always to talk to humans! Dogs however, if they hear cats meowing, think that the cat is talking to them.

When introducing animals, let the animals get to know each others smell through the door. It is all about smell for animals, so be patient. Respect your animals boundaries. Dogs and cats both communicate with their ears! This might be a little more subtle. Cats typically put their ears back when they’re scared, while dogs put their ears back when they’re aggressive. And the opposite! Animal relationships are anomalies. Weird animal friendships are never predictable! If you ever have questions, reach out to an animal behavioralist! Both dogs and cats blink often and softly when they are content. Both dogs and cats will not blink and have a “stand off” if you will for a power move! Check out these video for more information on animal behaviors. Click here for cats and here for dogs!
    Leah Backo
Leah is the Public Information Coordinator for the City of Dallas and Dallas Animal Services, or DAS. The Dallas Animal Services is on a mission to lead the nation in compassionate care of animals while finding positive outcomes for all placeable pets through innovative shelter operations and community engagement. As the third-largest dog and cat intake shelter in the country, DAS believes they can be the largest shelter in the nation with a sustainable live release rate of above 90% and is on track to do so for fisccal Year 2020. The biggest initiative for DAS is Dallas90, a community outreach campaign by Dallas Animal Services designed to engage the community in their lifesaving vision.
    Dallas90 Initiative
DAS offers many services! DAS also responds to all animal related 911 and 311 calls in Dallas County! This includes, pet rehoming support, animal surrender, wildlife rescue resources, and more! The City of Dallas does great work within city limits. Bernadette asks Leah what to do if you see a lost or wandering dog! DAS handles every dog or cat case by case. There used to be a very bad stray dog problem in the City Of Dallas, and after a very bad loss of human life at the hands of stray dogs, the DAS made a change. Animal Services are no longer just a code compliance part of parks and recreation, but their own branch of local government. Please microchip your animals! Microchips are a city ordinance, and a much more reliable resource than a dog tag. Also, it is against city ordinances to have your dogs run free, or to be off leash.

  • #1313, Dr. Lori Whatley, Von Eaglin and Denial

    Happy Thursday!
We are happy it is almost the weekend! Bernadette encourages us all to read our labels! Don't get frosted by pretty packaging! Bernadette got her youngest a PSL this morning and left her wondering how much sugar was in one. There are 50 grams of sugar in a Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks! That's 11.9 teaspoons of sugar! Be ware about how much sugar you're giving your kiddos. Speaking of Kiddos, we have Dr. Lori Whatley with us today, and new dad Von Eaglin on today!
    Dr. Lori Whatley
Dr. Lori Whatley is a clinical psychologist and relational therapist who specializes in the effects of excessive digital device usage. Dr. Whatley has over 25 years of clinical experience and has specialized in digital device usage for the past 10 years. Her latest book "Connected & Engaged: How to Manage Digital Distractions and Reconnect with the World Around
You" takes a look at the toll excessive digital device usage has on our lives—and what we can do about it.
Do You Push Your Child Academically?
This is an important question we need to ask! Bernadette's own daughter shared that students are now more reluctant to help other students with their homework because student rank has become so important in High Schools. Dr. Lori says we can not live that way. Bernadette suggests that parents raise and hold difference values of academics over their children. Dr. Lori thinks that every parent wants their child to be successful, but every parent has a different definition of success. Parents project those different ideas of success onto them. Play is a child's work! Dr. Lori says remember that. Dr. Lori says that our children slip further away from fundamental tools each day. We must send our children out into the world with a full toolbox! Not just a perfect GPA. A perfect GPA can only get you so far. Life skills keep you alive.

The word Dr. Whatley urges us to use instead of "push" is "encourage." When we push, we get negative effects. High School is tough, and there are so many stressors! Teenagers don't talk to parents as much as they should, but that doesn't mean that you should push. Let your child talk to you by removing digital devices from the cars. Don't let your teen text all the way home, let them decompress and talk. Listen. There are physiological signs that your child is overwhelmed in school; stomach aches, headaches, etc. Sharing is important. Someone is always listening and looking for a story to relate to. Good news is, colleges are beginning to look at more than just GPA's, but more the whole person. Have open communication between parents. Bridge the gap. The most important takeaway is to listen! Listen to your children!
    Von Eaglin
Von Eaglin is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and works with two group practices in the Dallas area. He is a certified couple relationship trainer and sees a wide range of clients addressing men's issues, anger management, abuse, and addiction; just to name a few. He is also a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas in the Counseling and Higher Education Department. His Ph.D. research focuses on on couple relationships dialogue. You can find him at his website or follow him on Instagram @VonTalks.
    The Danger of Denial
Denial means someone who is confronted with a personal problem that they are trying to avoid. Really, it's about your ego. When you are in a highly stressful situation, you go into denial to shut it down in your body. Being in denial allows you to put the issue off and not address it. The father of psycho therapy, Sigmund Freud came up with many different definition types of denial. Some people take out their anger on the wrong person, like their partner instead of talking to the person they really have a problem with. Another type of denial is  displacement.

  • #1312, Dr. Jen Myers, Dr. Jonny Bowden

    Happy Hump Day!
The week is flying by here at One Life Radio. We have two fabulous Dr.'s with us today! One Life Radio friend Dr. Jonny Bowden is back to discuss any and all things functional medicine! Sunwarrior's Jen Myers is back to talk about genetics and the immune/inflammatory response.
    Dr. Jonny Bowden
Dr. Jonny earned six certifications in personal training and fitness. Jonny Bowden is known as The Nutrition Myth Buster and is a nationally known expert on weight loss and health. He is the best-selling author of 15 books, including "The Great Cholesterol Myth" and "The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer." He has a Masters degree in psychology, a PhD in holistic nutrition, and is board certified by the American College of Nutrition. His books include "Living Low Carb," "Smart Fat," "The Great Cholesterol Myth" and "The 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth."
    Functional Medicine
Function medicine is where we look how each body system talks to the other. This is not like symptom based medicine, but rather looks at how everything is connected. The Institute For Functional Medicine just released an article about how COVID and functional medicine works together. This is a scientific holistic approach, not woo woo. The Institute For Functional Medicine concentrated on inflammasome. The inflammasome is the series of receptors found in our innate immune receptors. This inflamasome has the ability to set off a storm of inflammatory compounds, especially for COVID. We can calm this storm! There is great evidence, so here we go. Resveritrol, kurkumine extract, corsitine, and green tea extract are working! Get in line at your local Starbucks and order that green tea! You may not be able to prevent contact with the virus, but you can get your body ready to fight it!

It is important for our listeners to know that you don't need to buy all of these supplements, but really understand a few and use those. There is not only one way to do this thing called health. The easier supplements to understand are vitamin D, Vitamin C, elderberry extract, and zinc! Much easier to pronounce and much easier to source! These things really do stimulate the pathways in the body that fight viruses. We must eat a nutrient rich diet, because these things really do make a difference. Even if they do come up with a vaccine, we must survive by keeping our immune system strong. In this political atmosphere surrounding help, we need to make in simple. Wash your hands, mask, social distance, and take your vitamin D. #wmd2.
    Dr. Jen Myers
Dr. Jen Myers is a Doctor of Natural Medicine, Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and a Certified Genomics/Nutrigenetic Specialist. She is the Chief Genomics Officer and Master Formulator on two Scientific Advisory Boards focused on DNA-based supplementation. Myers instructs Physicians and Practitioners how to implement Nutrigenomics into their practices to provide a more personalized approach. She is also a formulator for Sunwarrior plant-based proteins and has published a number of articles on their behalf.
    Genetics And The Immune/Inflammatory Response
For those who don't know, genomics is the branch of molecular biology concerned with the structure, function, evolution, and mapping of genomes. This is Jen's Expertise! When our body is in acute threat, our innate immune system goes into a recover and repair phase! When we have a genomic reaction, and our body is recovered and healed, our body goes back to homeostasis. There are genes that turn off our innate immune system, so there are genes that turn them on too! Our innate immune response comes from birth. It is our first line of defense. It protects us from trauma, and even recognizes damages cells and cleans them up. Our body can divert it's energy to the portion or body system that needs the most help.

  • #1311, Shawn Wells and Supplements

    Happy Tuesday!
Bernadette and Renaldo are having a great day! Bernadette inquires why people find something they love and then watch or listen over and over again... I guess that's love! There is lots to talk about today and we couldn't think of a better person to have on air with us. Shawn Wells is here! Bernadette and Shawn were wee green bananas when they started on the airwaves years and years ago. He accredits his popularity and success to starting on the airwaves with Bernadette. Today, we are talking about supplements, Shawn's favorite!
    Shawn Wells
Shawn Wells is a Master of Public Health, Licensed Dietitian, Registered Dietitian, Certified Sports Nutritionist from the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. Shawn Wells is the world’s leading nutritional biochemist and expert on Health Optimization. He has formulated over 500 supplements and patented 10 novel ingredients. Formerly a Chief Clinical Dietitian with over a decade of clinical experience, he has counseled thousands of people on natural health solutions such as keto, paleo, fasting, and supplements. As a world-renowned thought-leader on mitochondrial health, he has been paid to speak on five different continents. His insights have been prominently featured in documentaries, nationally syndicated radio programs, and regularly on morning television. Shawn's expertise can help any health-conscious high achiever to better manage stress and experience higher performance and more energy through utilizing his practical wholistic solutions.
    Dietary Supplements
The FDA oversights with supplements is minimal. There are so many supplement that are out on the market with ingredients that aren't even registered within the FDA. Unfortunately, supplements like that won't ever gain attention until someone lands in the hospital. Try to focus on one good company for your supplements. Look for companies that are transparent with their ingredients. Of course we love Thorne, Enviromedica, and Sunwarrior, and Shawn loves them too! Shawn and Bernadette talk about being wary of the over the counter sexual enhancement pills near the condoms at the register. Those pills contain a lot of the ingredients that the FDA overlooks!

Shawn says it makes the most sense to buy the pill or supplement that is more expensive. Shawn says buy expensive so if when you do want to go cheaper one day, you know how a proper supplement is suppose to make you feel. The biggest thing to avoid is proprietary blends. That means that 99% of it could be the one cheap ingredient, and the oner 1% has the mix of the better ingredients. Essentially, you are buying fake fairy dust.

If you are really investing in a supplement for life, you can actually have your supplements tested for a couple hundred dollars. There is a cheaper way though! Call the company and ask for a breakdown of what exactly is in their supplements, and if they refuse, report them. You hold power as a consumer! A good rule of thumb is that if they have been around for 20 plus years, they are probably good. Follow the sushi rule. If you wouldn't buy sushi from a gas station, you shouldn't buy your supplements there either.
    Ingredients In Supplements
The adverse affect reporting system is public information. This is very helpful for those who are new to the supplement world who want to get their bodies in better shape! Shawn also says to look at examine. Examine tells you all about every ingredient in your pill, so check them out! Bernadette talks about how much she loves "berberine." The flip side of supplements is that sometimes there's not enough accountability with them. Unfortunately, that goes both ways,

  • #1310, Jackie Schlegel, Autumn Warren Connolly

    Happy Monday!
We are live from Dallas, Texas! Renaldo's parents are Texas citizens now, howdy ya'll! Bernadette warns Renaldo about the woe's of raising teenager. Good thing Renaldo's boy is still so little! Let's get this show started with Autumn Warren Connolly, then Jackie Schlegel.
    Power Of Imagination
We love this topic. Autumn was inspired to want to talk about imagination while reading. Autumn enjoys interpreting the writers words her way, so she takes imagination into her own brain! Everything starts with imagination. A thought, an idea. It is so easy to see how uninhibited children are in imagining the world around them without being inhibited by the harsh realities. As an adult we block ourselves by thinking that our imagination won't be able to help us as adults, but that's not true. The word imagination can be read positively or negatively. From Autumn's stance, imagination is a tool that adults need to harness more often. Imagination is critical, so don't stop your brain from wandering! Child and adult brains are not that different. Imagination can be used to create a beautiful garden or piece of art, so why can you not imagine a great job and manifest it?
    Intention Behind Desire
Just the word imagination turns the brain on! Bernadette says that Einstein said that imagination is more important than knowledge. You need imagination to think up great ideas. Imagination is the key to unlocking newer and more creative ideas, so let your mind wander. We can alter our imagination for many different things like cooking, writing, drawing, and more. However, you can harness the power of imagination for bigger things, too. Have that visualization of the promotion you want, or the relationship you crave. Imaginative ideas can program the subconscious mind. You can use your imagination to change your life, change your thoughts and change your energy. Just relax. Relaxation makes your brain waves slow down. When you are in a state of relaxation, your brain can be more imaginative because of lower energetic input.
    Jackie Schlegel
Jackie is the Executive Director for Texans for Vaccine Choice. In 2015, when legislators were led astray and filed oppressive bills that would take away parental rights and vaccine choice, Jackie Schlegel stepped up to the plate, said not on my watch. She threw her hat into the political arena. In just four short years, she took a group of passionate moms and turned it into the epitome of grassroots activism. They've set an unprecedented standard for the nation and even drawing worldwide attention.

That fledging group of 20 is now a political action committee and educational foundation, with over 30,000 social media followers as well as 12,000+ official members who proudly align themselves with Texans for Vaccine Choice. Thanks to Jackie's endless energy and passion, this group is organized with local branches, core members, and team leaders impact- ing their schools, their communities, and their legislators. Her unshakeable dedication inspires all members to have a laser focus on their mission of protecting and advancing informed con- sent, medical privacy, and vaccine choice.
    COVID-19 Vaccine For Texas
We are going to have to fight. Jackie says that Governor Abbott is not taking a public stance, and that is scary. Two years ago, he was fighting for parental rights and informed consent,

  • #1308, Workplace Stress, Reaching Out After Awhile

    Happy Thursday!
We are almost to the end of the week! Bernadette is filled with energy after her morning workout with One Life Radio resident fitness expert Tina Bernet Allen! We are all blessed here today. Dewone Bennett is here to talk workplace stress. Kip Watson
    Dewone Bennett

Dewone Bennett is a Licensed Professional Counselor with two masters degrees and over 12 years of counseling experience. He currently has his own practice, Dewone Bennett Counseling in Dallas, TX. He believes that the key to mental and behavioral success is the ability to master self-awareness and emotional control. Workplace Stress From At Home and In The Office
    The Office
American's biggest stressors are work related! First we'll talk about working at the office. Especially now with employment rate fluctuating and being up in the air, workplace stress and the stress to get and maintain a job are rising. High demanding jobs can also be really stressful! Money, harassment, and more are other factors that contribute to workplace stress in the office. Another office stressor is trying to find a job with flexible hours, so you can make it to important things like your children's recitals. Harassment especially for women is hard, but Dewone stresses, always say something. The #MeToo movement is still alive and well.

When you have workplace stress. you have three choices. First thing you can do is remove yourself from the job. Second is you change it. Apply for promotions that will compensate you accordingly. The third thing you can do is to accept it. It is unfortunate that we have to be faced with choices that affect our wallet, but always do what is best for your well being and psyche. Bernadette asks how to measure stress and when to know when to take action. When you see yourself starting to have bad habits, like over eating or over sleeping, look back at your life, so keep it real. In preparation for going back into the office after COVID-19, start introducing yourself back into society gradually, so you won't get socially shocked when going back to a desk.
    Home
Workplaces expect productivity to increase since people are being able to work from home in some jobs. That puts stress on people! Sitting at your computer for 12 hours at a time versus 8 When you work at home, there is a key factor that is being removed from the "workplace." If someone is an introvert, they used to get their socialization from going to their 9-5! Now, personability is being removed. 46% of people who work from home are more stressed than 25% percent that work in the office at the same job. Working from home affects your habits! Whatever you may have done to get yourself ready for the work day is gone, so their energy is down. Structure is lost when working from home. We also must realize that familiarity breeds contempt. Working from home could cause discrepancies and issues in your romantic and children relationships. Sometimes we just need a break!

In a world where we have to deal with supervisors making stronger demands, do not be afraid to go to HR. Find a safe place at work, whether it is at home or in the office. Manage your interpersonal conflict and don't let it be brushed aside. The first thing you want to do when having a problem with your coworker is to know your feelings. Learn how and why you feel that way. And at the end of the day, you might just have to stay away from that person. Avoid gossiping! Ask if the information you are about to be told is useful and factual. That will keep you out of workplace conflicts, whether it's at home with your partner or in the office with your boss.

  • #1307, Dr. Will Bulsiewicx, Brett Wilcox

    Happy Hump Day!
It's a sunny day here in California and in Dallas! Renaldo is excited that sports are back, and that the NBA playoffs start tonight! Whether a Clippers or Mavericks Fan, lets be happy sports are coming back! It's all good here in D-Town, so go outside and enjoy it! We have two incredible authors on the airwaves today, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz and Brett Wilcox. So exciting!
    Dr. Will Bulsiewicz
Dr.Will Bulsiewicz is a board-certified, award-winning Gastroenterologist with a degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He was the chief medical resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the chief gastroenterology fellow at the University at North Carolina Hospital. Dr. Bulsiewicz completed 8 years of formal research training, including a masters of clinical investigation from Northwestern, an epidemiology fellowship at the highly rated UNC-Gillings School of Global Public Health, and a grant from the NIH. His extensive research training combined with his award-winning clinical skills has made him an internationally recognized leader in digestive wellness and gut health. Dr.Bulsiewicz is the author of the book "Fiber Fueled", a bold new take on a plant-based approach that challenges popular keto and paleo diets.
Fiber Fueled and Short Chained Fatty Acids
The overall message of "Fiber Fueled" is that there are so many changes that need to be taken into affect to treat our bodies now. All these changes are having a negative consequence on our gut microbiome. The book is all about empowering our microbiome. We are the product of our environment. We think of ourselves as the masters of our domain, but we are merely a product of what is around us.Dr. B is obsessed with short chained fatty acids! Short Chained Fatty acids have three times. butyrate, acetate, and propionate. They are small fat molecules that are made from fiber and have been touched by gut microbiomes. This is why we call them postbiotocs, because they have already been intertwined with fiber.

Don't go searching for fiber! It's all right there in the produce section. Each plant has different types of fiber. From a biochemical prospective, fiber is so complicated, so we break it into two types. Soluble and Insoluble. Soluble fiber is the preferred food for our microbiome. The microbes get to feast on fiber and then create short chain fatty acids! The best way to get soluble fiber is... everywhere! Soluble fiber is found in all plants. Get them in abundance and get them in variety.
    Proteins and Carb-ophobics
Bernadette was talking with OLR trainer, Tina Bernet Allen, Beta-glucan is phenomenal for the immune system! Mushrooms are not vegetables, mushrooms are fungi! Beta-glucan is abundant in mushrooms, so shroom up! Dr. B decided to make a change when growing up, his snack choices were between chips or cheez-its. Bernadette and Will point out that doctors only get about 2 weeks of nutrition training when becoming a medical doctor. Bernadette says it's a trickle down from the top. If our doctors are not wanting to feel their best, what would make them want to have their patients feel their best? Dr. B worked out constantly, but he didn't see a change until he changed his diet. Dr. B feels like he is aging in reverse. If you can get one nugget of information from Dr. B, it's that you can't out-workout a bad diet.
    Brett Wilcox

Author Brett Wilcox is here. After writing "We’re Monsanto: Feeding the World, Lie After Lie," and "JABBED: How the Vaccine Industry, Medical Establishment and Government Stick It to You and Your Family," Brett wasn't done educating the public. Brett and the love of his life, Kris, were married in 1989. • #1306, Family Dinners, Going After What You Want

    Happy Tuesday!
Bernadette is having a great day and got up with the sun! Bern had a get together last night. She got to bring a family together, which made her heart full. Renaldo spent yesterday playing with his son, and is watching his kiddo grow up!
    Robin Perry Braun
Robin holds a Masters in Psychology. She is a Holistic Energy Practitioner and has worked with sexual addictions for over 18 years. She is also an Emotion Code and Integrated Life Process Practitioner, ordained minister, author and speaker. Robin has Created her own certified energy modality, and holds trainings live and online all over the world. She uses a holistic approach to address mental, emotional, spiritual & physical issues.
    Family Dinners
Bernadette is obsessed with family dinners. Being raised Catholic, family dinners were pivotal to having a close and connected family. Robin says historically, the family dinner represented unity. In the Jewish tradition, you couldn't even sit down and dine with them if un-forgiveness was in the air. Many cultures have a covenantal meaning behind sitting down to eat. Bernadette says forgiveness is so critical, and is even the essence of the Lord's Prayer. "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Children learn by what their parents model. Children learn critical thinking and how to debate with others based on observing their parents interactions. In busy families, the only time and place that children can fully interact with their Mother and Father at the same time is at the dinner table! On the reciprocal side, the dinner table is a safe place for children to speak to their parents, so they can talk about all their feelings! Allow your children to ask questions, and ask them deep questions back! Adult conversations at the dinner table fosters growth in child brains.
    Eye Contact
During a scientific study, they did an eye to eye study. They found that when breastfeeding, when the mother and child were connected by looking at each other, the thoughts of the mother were being communicated via the eye. You can't hide your anxiety and your stress, your children will absorb it. Looking at your children in the eyes can be good and bad, depending on how you, the parent are feeling emotionally. Looking into the eye is an act of respect, so be sure to make sure to do your research on eye contact when visiting other countries. Robin and Bernadette stress the importance of looking into your child's eyes when feeding them, whether it's the breast or the bottle.

Back to the family dinner. Without family dinners or gatherings around food, we can get lonely! When around others, we are energetically charged by the people around us. While zoom is fine, it is the close proximity that we need to fill out heart space. Simply be present to one another. Happy Furry Friday!
What a furbulous day on this furry Friday! TGIF! Bernadette and The One Life Radio had a crazy full week, but we wouldn’t change it for anything! We love what we do! Everyone at OLR loves animals, so furry Friday is our favorite! Today, we have Maura Davies, Marc Peralta, and Alison Sawyer Current.
    Maura Davies
Maura Davies is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications at the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Texas. As a longtime friend of One Life Radio, Maura is with us almost every Friday!
    Pet’s Paw Pads
Pet paw pads are the little beans that are on the bottom of your pet’s paws! Paw pads are hairless pigmented skin that is an overlay of fat and tissue. They can be rough or smooth depending on your “ruff” boy or girl, or your more calm companion. Animal paw pads can be compared to shoes with insoles. They provide traction, cushion, and help them walk more comfortably!

Just like human feet, animal paw pads can get cuts, scratches, or even infections! Look out for packs, cuts, bleeding or swelling. Look for excessive licking on your animals feet. Bernadette suggests soaking your animals paw pads in epsom salt as a cheaper and holistic alternative! Just be able to always ask your veterinarian first before treating your pet holistically.

Really be cautious of how hot the surface your dog is walking on. If the concrete or pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for theirs! Go for walks early in the day or later in the evening, but still feel the pavement. Look in to some dogs shoes to protect your furry friends feet! Check out this funny video of dogs trying to walk with shoes on for your daily laugh!

    Financial Aid For Pet Care
Marc says Happy Friday. Unfortunately the unemployment rate has skyrocketed. Best Friends wants to help pet owners and shelters as much as they can. From food pantries to rehoming, Best Friends is doing everything they can do to keep pets and families together. To apply for services and aide for their furry family member, reach out to your local animal shelter first. Even if the shelter itself can not Gove anything, they know who to connect you with. In times like this, do not be afraid to reach out to a friend or family member, or even nextdoor or facebook. Marc and Bern know how hard rehoming can be, but be proactive. Use your own circle first but don’t be afraid to reach out.

Best Friends works with animal surrenders. Best Friends strives to be a community resource and an educator. People lose their homes and jobs, and rehoming your animal does not mean that you are a poor animal owner. The most responsible thing to do is to take the best action for your animal’s well being. Sometimes that means rehoming, and that’s not always bad.

If you or someone you know is struggling financially with animal care, call 3-11 or 2-11 for community resources. Marc says every community is different. If you have even the smallest bit of extra money, please consider buying a bag of cat or dog food and delivering it to your local shelter.
