  • #1340, Dr. Nasha Winters, Dr. Steven Schwartz

    Happy Monday!
Junior and Bernadette are talking football, Junior is upset that the Cowboys lost! Bernadette is a Cleveland Browns fan, so she isn't sweating it. We have a great show today with OLR favorite Dr. Steven Schwartz, but first an old friend, Dr. Nasha Winters, so let's get started!
    Dr. Steven Schwartz
Dr. Steve Schwartz is a recognized physician, researcher, inventor and entrepreneur. He is currently the day hospitalist at a U.S. military hospital in the Midwest, overseeing patient care, teaching, research, and leadership. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of Flutrends International and STS Health. Dr. Schwartz has patented two holistic health formulations to combat multiple strains of influenza, the common cold and multiple allergies – FluNada and Air-Vita. You can find both of these products on amazon.com and at major drugstore chains. Visit STS Health for more information.
    Recent COVID-19 Developments and Findings
Dr. Steven Schwartz is talking about President Trumps diagnosis of COVID-19. It takes us about 3 weeks to make antibodies to attack the COVID virus. In the president's case, he has only been in the hospital four days, so developing proper antibodies at this point is unlikely. Listen to hear Dr. Schwartz’s thoughts on The president President. Bernadette talks about fever reducers and what fevers mean when someone is sick. Dr. Schwartz has 7 things he recommends to prevent COVID-19! B-12, Vitamin D, Licorice, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin C, Selenium, and Flunada are what you need to be taking daily to keep your body in tip top fighting shape to fight off viruses.
    Dr. Nasha Winters

Dr. Nasha is a Naturopathic Integrative Oncologist and a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. She has been on a personal journey with cancer for almost 29 years. Her quest to save her own life has transformed into a life-long mission to support others on a similar journey. Dr. Nasha travels the world helping colleagues master the metabolic approach to cancer, so their patients can achieve better treatment outcomes. She is the co-author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer: Integrating Deep Nutrition, the Ketogenic Diet, and Nontoxic Bio-Individualized Therapies.

Strategies To Increase The Quality And Quantity Of Your Personal Shelf Life
The survival rate of people is changing. The government says that our life expectancy has been slowly dropping since the 1980's! America is going against the government grain. We have decreased our relative mortality more than anyone else in the world. Unfortunately, our deaths are due to drug overdoses and suicide. There are 9 factors on the list of longevity, click here to listen to all of the 9 factors! These strategies can increase or decrease your longevity, depending on what side you sit on. Bernadette thinks we are an over-vaccinated society. So many factors go into making a healthy person.

What do we need to put in our mitochondrial bucket to increase our longevity? There are a couple simple strategies that are available to us for little to no cost. Know where you are from! Look into your family medical history, and make cancer in your family stop with you! We are told that major illnesses are genetic roulette, but that is only the case about 5% of the time, so you have the power! Less than 12% of Americans are metabolically healthy. Make that change! Eat nutrient dense foods. Poor nutrient rich foods lead to weight gain and poor circulation. Everything ties together, so we must treat our bodies as if everything is connected to everything else.

What Dr. Nasha is finding in her work is that our health surrounding "Blue Zones" is about where, not when, and with who. People living in the Mediterranean employ fasting...

  • #1338, Jerry Yudelson, Pedram Shojai, The Urban Monk

    Happy Thursday!
Bernadette and Junior are having a great day! It's Friday-Eve! Thursdays are the day that Bernadette takes to unwind and relax. Bernadette is drinking her chamomile tea because she is just so excited for todays show with Dr. Pedram Shojai, The Urban Monk and up first, The Godfather Of Green, Jerry Yudelson! So stick around!
    Jerry Yudelson

Yudelson is a social activist, environmentalist, engineer and spiritual seeker. He’s chronicled his extensive 50-year career and spiritual journey in his book, “The Godfather of Green: An Eco-Spiritual Memoir.” Jerry’s environmental activism began with the inaugural Earth Day Celebration in 1970, when Jerry was a campus organizer at Caltech. He was a key player in California’s solar energy movement during the 70s and 80s, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to run the state’s solar development program. Jerry has authored 12 books on green building, sustainable development, water conservation, green homes, building performance and green marketing.
California Wildfires and Lessening Our Carbon Footprint
This is an important topic! 7.5 million acres have burned this year, compared to 4 million acres last year. Jerry Yudelson says that our climate is getting hotter and drier and staying that way longer. In California, it doesn't rain after May. So you've got 6 months of dry combined with pressure out of the coast which is a perfect recipe for burning. Bernadette brings up that there are an influx of chemicals being created and dumped. Yudelson says we are losing biodiversity and that we will have to spend the next 2-3 generations fixing it. Jerry thinks that fires will get worse and become more abundant the longer we go without doing something.

Do something today! Eat lower on the food chain and buy local! Start thinking about what you buy and what it took to get it to you. If you can afford it, buy an electric vehicle because it will be necessary in the future.

We are entering an era that is unprecedented. In 20 years, we will look at the year 2020 and reminisce on how cool the temperature was. This is not the end of a global warming epidemic, it is only the beginning.

    Pedram Shojai
Dr. Pedram Shojai Is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, Master Herbalist and acupuncturist, better known as “The Urban Monk”. He is the New York Times best selling author of “The Urban Monk" and "The Art of Stopping Time” and also the founder of Well.org. Dr. Shojai uses Eastern thinking and practices to help others overcome Westernized challenges of everyday life and live life to the fullest. His upcoming book, "FOCUS: Bringing Time, Energy and Money into Flow" will be out in November.
How to Bring Time, Energy and Money into Flow
We are so excited to have Dr. Pedram Shojai on One Life Radio! Bernadette asks Pedram if he is anxious to write and release another book. Pedram Shojai says that writing a book takes a lot of water from your personal garden. We are talking about the difference between life and live! Life is the greatest mystery we have in front of us. Living life is a low bar, it doesn't take a lot to keep breathing. We have to think more abstractly about how we want to spend the remainder of our heartbeats until we have none left. We live in an era with a crisis of consciousness. Our awareness is both a gift and a burden because we can get distracted and distorted when trying to battle our sentience. Sentience and life are inextricably linked.

Don't be reactive, be proactive! In his book, Pedram talks about his 5 areas of life, in his book. The first area is career, then there's family, desires, passion and health. All those categories need water from you. You need action! Tie what you want to do with saying it and making choices to make ...

  • #1337, Cody Myler, Deborah Kesten, Whole Person Integrative Eating

    Happy Hump Day!
Happy Wednesday! We are so excited for the beautiful weather outside. Even Junior was riding around with his windows down this morning! We have a fabulous show for you today with Cody Myler and Deborah Keston of Whole Person Integrative Eating, so stick around and let's jump right in!
    Cody Myler

Cody Myler, also known as the Keto Cowboy, is a health & fitness expert, trainer, instructor and business owner. He holds a Bachelors in Exercise Psychology, a Masters in Sports Management and over 20 different fitness certifications. In 2019, Cody founded the National Athletic Keto Association, or NAKA, hosting the first Keto/Carnivore Bodybuilding Competition. He is the owner of NXT Rep Fitness, a 24hr. workout facility offering specialized workout and nutrition programs designed around an individual’s needs and fitness level.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Exercising after a Back Injury
Some people confuse Spondylolysis and Spondylitis. Spondylolysis is the actual fracture in one of the vertebras. Spondylitis is inflammatory arthritis, but Spondylolysis is the injury on the vertebras. Bernadette raises the point that you can pull your back out doing even the simplest of things! Bernadette says if your abs and glutes are not strong, your back is not strong. Cody says that it is the intercostal muscles that are underneath the transversal dominus. Do planks to strengthen the intercostal muscles! Put a stability against the wall and put your arms out. Push the ball against the wall as hard as you can! Check out our Instagram to see the workout from Cody Myler himself!

Get a piece of PVC pipe and sit down on the floor or on your couch, and reach it behind your back and roll it all around your shoulders! Follow Cody on instagram @Myler_Flex to see more of Cody and his motivational fitnesses videos! Keep your body spry, so keep moving those muscles! Avoid workouts that are hard on the back. Cycling, walking, and swimming are some of Cody and Bernadette's favorite low impact workouts. Cody takes collagen every day to help pad his vertebra and avoid vertebra on vertebra pain.

How to Build a Healthier Relationship with Food, Eating and Weight
Deborah Kesten's book helps you find a way to eat and keep your body and mind health at the same time. In her book, there is a 76 question quiz that can help you find your over-eating style. Deborah based her eating styles she highlights in her book by doing in depth research on the eating styles and medicinal habits of ancient people and cultures all over the world. Most people before us ate with the three spiritual thoughts on their plate. Mindfulness, appreciation, and loving regard for food. Eating with a mindfulness consciousness can have you lose weight, so just be mindful! Eat with others! By eating around others, you will be subconsciously more mindful of what is going on your plate and into your body.

Deborah and her co author and husband, Larry Scherwitz did a study where they found that men who spoke with narcissistic tendencies were more likely to have a heart attack. How interesting!

  • #1336, Bonnie Cook, Mental Health, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz

    Happy Tuesday!
It's been a crazy day here at One Life Radio! We had a little bit of board problems, but we have persevered! We have a great show with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz and Bonnie Cook, so let's get started!
    Dr. Will Bulsiewicz

Dr.Will Bulsiewicz is a board-certified, award-winning gastroenterologist with a degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He was the chief medical resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the chief gastroenterology fellow at the University at North Carolina Hospital. Dr. Bulsiewicz completed 8 years of formal research training. His extensive research training combined with his award-winning clinical skills has made him an internationally recognized leader in digestive wellness and gut health. Dr. Bulsiewicz is the author of the book "Fiber Fueled," a bold new take on a plant-based approach that challenges popular keto and paleo diets.

    Fiber and Weight Loss
Throw that diet plan out the window! In his book "Fiber Fueled," Dr. B wants to let people know that they can eat without restriction and still accomplish their weight loss goals. You too can eat beautiful, colorful, healthy foods and not have to follow strict diet rules! Dr. B used to be a connoisseur of hot dogs and bad food, and found himself at a crossroads with his own health, but now he has radically transformed himself and his diet! Dr. B says that he doesn't count how many grams of fiber he is getting daily. Count plants instead! Eating plants is not that difficult, so don't be afraid. Take a few vegetables that you really like and add some of your favorite spices to find a fiber fueled dish that you can make your go to.

Grains are one of the foundational pieces for a healthy gut microbiome. Grains are probiotics that feed the bacteria in your gut! Don't toss your grains out, they are needed! Throwing out your grains can lead to heart attacks, so Dr. B says leave that brown rice! Bernadette asks Dr. B about the juice trend, and Dr. B says 100% of the time he would prefer a smoothie over a juice because a smoothie has the fiber. Great stuff here today with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, we always love having him on!
    Bonnie Cook
Bonnie is the CEO & President of Mental Health America of Greater Dallas. Prior to assuming this role in April, 2018 she was the executive director of Mental Health America of Kentucky. Bonnie has over 17 years experience working in the mental health field. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Mental Health America in Alexandria, Virginia.
    World Mental Health Day
Our deepest condolences go out to Bonnie on the loss of her fur baby. Bernadette and Bonnie talk about what kind of dog they would be. Bernadette says she wouldn't want to be a Pomeranian because they talk too much. Bonnie says she would be a mutt. Great answer!

World Mental Health Day is October 10th! Awareness for mental health first began in 1992. This recent pandemic has caused us to realize that mental health issues are very prominent world wide. We wouldn't wait till stage four to treat brain cancer, so we should not wait till stage four to treat our brains. We must seek help when we first start feeling affected by our brains chemistry in our day to day lives. The United States are high up on the list of countries with a high prevalence rate of mental health issues. There are some countries that are doing much better with addressing mental health. Germany is a great country for mental health, so let's go to Germany!

Bonnie says to start talking about mental health at a much younger age to instill resilience. Bernadette says that children are overmedicated and deprived of enrichment here in the United States. The sooner that we start integrating our physical and mental health, the sooner we will be able to move forward.
    Thank You!

    Time
Autumn tries to make the most of every day. Time is the most valuable thing we have! You can not buy time. Bernadette says she makes her bed every morning as an act of discipline. The secret to managing time is awareness. As much as Autumn would like to stick to a regimented day, sometimes life gets in the way with a toddler! Autumn likes to wake up and have a set "must do" list. Stress actually lowers your productivity! You think that being under pressure makes you work harder and faster, but the stress actually inhibits productivity. If you are struggling to manage your time would be, make a list before you go to bed! Make sure you get your list things done, even if they seem like small, menial tasks.

  • #1334, Furry Friday With Best Friends Animal Society

    Happy Furry Friday!
It's a furbulous day here in Dallas, Texas! We are proud to say we have partnered with Castor & Pollux Pet Food! As the leader and maker of America’s #1 organic pet food, Castor & Pollux has set a new standard with the most comprehensive portfolio of purposeful pet food. We are sad to announce that Renaldo will be leaving us, but that we will have a new board operator starting Monday! We have a furry Friday in store for you with Marc Peralta of Best Friends Animal Society, so stick around. First up, Maura Davies of the SPCA Texas!
    Maura Davies

Maura Davies is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications at the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) of Texas.

    SPCA Texas Rescues
The FurBall went swell! The Furball raised over $330,000! The only way that the SPCA can continue to do what it does for animals, so don't forget to donate if you can. It's hurricane season, and the SPCA is gearing up to save animals just like they have in the past with hurricane Katrina and hurricane Harvey. Bernadette says don't get rid of your pets! So many people so carelessly give their animals away. How sad. The SPCA focuses on keeping animals in homes and out of shelters. The SPCA tries to identify the issues owners have surrounding why people would give their animal up and help them.

There is a new approach to natural disaster animal rescues. They were having troubles before getting animals back to their owners after hurricanes because they were immediately just going into rescue. Now, the SPCA takes a difference approach where they work with the local groups and have a coordinated response. Bernadette points out that social media has helped some groups with animal adoption, but Maura says that social media has actually been detrimental. But, as for community building and bringing people together, social media has proven effective.
    Marc Peralta

Marc Peralta is the Chief Program Officer for Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends is a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. In addition to running lifesaving programs in partnership with nearly 3,000 animal welfare groups, Best Friends has regional centers across the country. They operate the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Prior to joining Best Friends, Marc served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He has also served as interim CEO for the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Best Friends Animal Society - Puppy Mill Awareness
Today we are talking about puppy mills. Best Friends Animal Society thinks that there are upwards of 10,000 puppy mills in the US. With the use of the internet and Facebook puppy sales, puppy breeding is running rampant. Puppy mills are factory farms for dogs. The animals only get the bare minimum of care and are bred for profit for the human. It is not only dogs, cats get bred rapidly too! Any store or person who breeds animals should register with the federal government, but many don't. Please adopt and do not shop! If you do choose to purchase an animal, try and find the source. Get to as close to the "mill" as you can!

If you think there is a puppy mill in your area, help your friends and family understand the ugly truth of puppy mills. Tell people that while a puppy mill puppy may need a nice home, the more money you give to puppy mills, the more you keep puppy mills going. They typically aren't illegal,

  • #1333, Denna Babul, Von Eaglin

    Happy Thursday!
It's dysfunctional relationship day here at One Life Radio! Bernadette speculates over 50% of the population struggle with their relationships. Renaldo guesses 98%! We have a great show in store with Denna Babul and Von Eaglin, so let's jump right in!
    Denna Babul

Denna Babul is a relationship expert, author, TV personality and public speaker. She is the Founder of the Fatherless Daughter Movement, and an award-winning author of “The Fatherless Daughter Project: Understanding Our Losses and Reclaiming Our Lives.” In Denna’s latest book “Love Strong: Change Your Narrative, Change Your Life, and Take Your Power Back!” she uses her years of experience as a relationship coach and her personal experience to give people with relationship dilemmas a guide to taking their power back. Through her work, Denna has helped thousands of clients get the love they want.

How to Love Someone Dealing with A Mental Health Crisis
It is possible to have a relationship with someone dealing with a mental health crisis. 1 in 5 people have a mental illness! Mental illness looks like many different things. If you are in a relationship with someone struggling with mental illness, you will typically feel it in your gut first. COVID-19 is definitely making dating harder. Denna says to never call a woman crazy! Typically, crazy is just passionate. It is about how to funnel that passion into something healthy. After a relationship, women are typically left looking for themselves because they put so much into someone else. Narcissism is pretty big in our society. When you can't find out who you are, so when you can't find out where you start and end, you experience confusion.

Denna says that most people don't know that they are a narcissist or have BPD, so the beginning of the relationship is typically easy. People don't love to go to therapy, because they associate therapy with craziness. When writing "Love Strong," Denna wanted people to look at their past and present. Find a relationship mentor and ask them all your relationship questions! Bernadette asks how you can know when your partner has a mental health issue. Denna says that anxiety, fear, or withdrawing is mild, but once someone has a thought to end their life, you need to step in. Go to Denna's website and take the free quiz about how strong you're loving!

    Von Eaglin
Von Eaglin is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and works with two group practices in the Dallas area. He is a certified couple relationship trainer and sees a wide range of clients addressing men’s issues, anger management, abuse, and addiction; just to name a few. He is also a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas in the Counseling and Higher Education Department. His Ph.D. research focuses on on couple relationships dialogue. You can find him at his website or follow him on Instagram @VonTalks.
Healthy vs Unhealthy Attachments In Relationships
Therapists from a long time ago hypothesized that attachments in romantic relationships stem from how much attachment you formed as a child. Interesting! Your parents play a major role in how you attach to your partner. If your parents were really responsive to you, you typically will have a secure attachment style. Anxious attachment style is when your parents were typically not consistent with their responsiveness. In an adult relationship, that will manifest in a different way. The biggest type of attachment is avoidance attachments, so the parent was very distant at all times. Avoidance manifests in bad ways when adults enter romantic relationships. Don't fret! There are healthy ways for adults to attach in relationships.

    Happy Tuesday!
It's raining cats and dogs here in Dallas, Texas! But that won't stop us from having a great show with jus Bernadette and Shawn Wells, so stick around!
    Shawn Wells
Shawn Wells is a Master of Public Health, Licensed Dietitian, Registered Dietitian, Certified Sports Nutritionist from the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. Shawn Wells is the world’s leading nutritional biochemist and expert on Health Optimization. He has formulated over 500 supplements and patented 10 novel ingredients. Formerly a Chief Clinical Dietitian with over a decade of clinical experience, he has counseled thousands of people on natural health solutions such as keto, paleo, fasting, and supplements. As a world-renowned thought-leader on mitochondrial health, he has been paid to speak on five different continents. His insights have been prominently featured in documentaries, nationally syndicated radio programs, and regularly on morning television. Shawn’s expertise can help any health-conscious high achiever to better manage stress and experience higher performance and more energy through utilizing his practical wholistic solutions.
    Suicide Prevention
Shawn once struggled with suicide. Shawn grew up in a chaotic home, where he was bullied daily. He kept his head down and worked on his studies, but tried to make people laugh whenever possible. After years of suffering, Shawn tried to take his own life. Bernadette points out that our own perception of ourselves is so powerful. We accept the ideas that are cast over us when we are children, but often forget our own paths. Shawn says there was never a huge paradigm shift in his life when he realized he needed to change his life, but instead a lot of little changes that added up to something big.

Give yourself some space and remember to set boundaries. Also, don't forget to take a break whenever you start to feel overwhelmed. Whatever you were doing, it will still be there when you get back. Take some water out of your stress bucket.
    Resilience
Shawn says that there is physical and mental resilience. You need both kinds of resilience to be strong from all angles! There is the idea of a stress bucket. You only have so much capacity for stress, so be careful that you don't fill up your bucket too fast without a way to empty it out. Shawn says to watch "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix! It is important to understand how children are comparing themselves in these times. Children are now comparing themselves to 8 billion other people instead of to the neighbor down the street. The influx of algorithms and tech has caused a need for different kinds of resilience, and more resilience at a younger age.

Bernadette says we need to be thought leaders. Look into your inner circle to become the best you. You will become who you hang out with! Surround yourself with the best people you can find to learn how to be resilient on all levels. We are designed to overcome, not succumb!
    Supplements For Mood
Folic acid and B vitamins are so important for brain health! If we aren’t firing correctly in our brain then we aren’t conducting well, if we aren’t firing at our full capacity, we can’t be totally resilient! If you have been using SSRI’s, try zembrin. Zembrin is a plant from South Africa. It has a long history of use as a traditional medicine by tribes of South Africa. It has been used to enhance mood and cause relaxation. Oil of oregano is not for the faint of heart, but it is one of the most potent antioxidants known to man! Other supplements and vitamins that can better your mood are Ginkgo biloba, Valerian, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Melatonin, Probiotics, Curcumin and Magnesium, so go to your local supplement store and stock up!

    COVID Corner
Dr. Schwartz is on a task force for looking at pandemic influenza! Influenza is the biggest killer in the world, historically more than all the world wars combined! Wow! The CDC has new information regarding the spread of COVID-19. It turns out, COVID can be spread via aerosols and through the air! According to Dr. Schwartz, it really depends on how healthy you are. Flunada is still available! Call 888-407-2816 to order to Flunada today! If you get an influenza infection today, you are less likely to get another strain of influenza for up to 8 weeks! There are so many mutations of influenza that can become pandemic-worthy.

Can Parents Help Their Children Learn From Home?
Facing this difference in at home school vs in school sessions is hard! The first thing we have to do is realize that there is no playbook for this, so we need to give ourselves some grace. We must model resilience for our children to succeed in school. Try and find a space for your kiddo that is isolated, but not cut off from you as the parent so you can swoop in and help when they needed. A designated learning space is good, because it establishes boundaries like in school, but at home. One of Bernadette's friends who has four little ones in online school says that it has been hard. Keeping their minds engaged in school is important, even though it is at home. Take breaks! If you or your child is getting frustrated, don't be afraid to take a brisk walk. We can get through this!
