  • #1290, Breathing With Autumn Warren Connolly

Happy Monday With Autumn Warren Connolly!
Happy Monday from One Life Radio! Bernadette and Renaldo had a great weekend. Bernadette had a quiet weekend, and really took time to reflect upon herself. Autumn Warren Connolly is here for the entire show today, so let's jump right in!
    Writing Your Feelings
Autumn And Bernadette talk about writing and journaling. Bern found herself writing letters and then discarding of them this weekend. She says it was cathartic! Autumn says that she journals in the morning and the evening. Autumn says get your feelings out on a piece of paper. If your feelings involve another person, she stresses is so important to work through it yourself and not bring another person into it. Get it out and move on! Bernadette was deep into on of her favorite books this weekend, “Art of Communicating” by Thich That Hanh. Remember, communication is the key to success!
    Homemade Kefir
Bernadette made homemade kefir drink over the weekend using Autumn's starter kit! Bernadette loves "crazy" flavors, and says that you can use virtually any flavor. Try outside the box flavors like pear, beet, or white grape! If these seem too crazy, there are always easy fallbacks like apple from organic apple juice. Making your own Kefir Drink is easier than you think! Check out this video on how to know when to drink your Kefir drink. It feels so good to make things from scratch! Is it just us, or do things taste better when we make them ourselves?
    Breathing
Breathing correctly is so important! Diaphragmatic breathing is simply breathing from your diafram. Your diaphragm is just a little muscle beneath your breast bone. By breathing in and expanding and contracting this muscle, you are working it out! If you can do one thing for your spiritual, mental and even sexual health, you need to learn to breathe correctly. Breathing correctly can even affect your sexual endeavors. Everything ties to together!
    Thank You!
A big thank you to our guest, Autumn Warren Connolly. Contact her at [email protected] for all your kefir, breathing, or meditation inquiries! Purchase Autumn's Kefir Starter Kit here!

  • #1288, Dewone Bennett, Zen Honeycutt

    Happy Thursday!
Happy Thursday everyone! We have a great show in store for you all. Today, we are grateful for our first amendment right for freedom of speech, as it allows us to speak the truth and educate the public, the very gist and heart of One Life Radio. We have 2 special guests today, Founder of Moms Across America, Zen Honeycutt is here! Dewone Bennett is back to discuss race.
    Zen Honeycutt
Zen Honeycutt talks about ways to address the crazy feelings we may be having. She cites a book about food and behavior. She said studies of high school students showed that the ones who had the most mental issues, dropped out or failed were eating the most junk or processed foods. When the junk food was replaced by whole foods, the students excelled, the dropout rate dropped and more.

Zen and her family takes recipes out of healthy cookbooks and each member makes a dish per night. It is a great way to eat as a family and try healthy recipes. Bernadette says to take a moment to learn about new foods and their benefits with your children, it is a great way to bond and teach. Bernadette was making cookies with her daughter to send to her Brother who is schizophrenic. Honeycutt says many schizophrenia patients have shown to be deficient in Vitamin C.

Some solutions for junk food? Having a hot drink satiates your cravings for junk food. Try different teas. Instead of ice cream, try a frozen banana. Berries, dates and figs are great for a sweet tooth.  Almond butter and honey is a great snack. Sauerkraut will take away cravings, too, and has great probiotics. For chips, try seaweed chips and snacks. And, if you’re craving salt, take a magnesium supplement. GMOs effect your gut health and should be avoided. Even farm animals instinctively avoid GMO crops. They can really effect your mental state. There are hundreds of studies on the effects of GMOs that you can find here, on Zen's website! Zen says sugar, corn, soy and canola are 85-100% GMO in the U.S. Make the swap and choose the healthier version! Your body will thank you!
    Dewone Bennett
Licensed Professional Councilor Dewone Bennett is back discussing race. Renaldo and Dewone give their feelings as two African-American men on the use of racial slurs among their peers and outsiders. Bern is bold and asks about using the “n” word. Bennett says that it’s confusing how to use the word. Non-Black Americans should never use it, and he thinks African Americans shouldn’t really use it either unless it’s endearing and friendly, but they the right to the word belongs to African Americans, and they have the right to take back the word. It’s how the word is intended that is most important.

Dewone has a new Facebook live group,“Braspective.” Braspective is an opportunity for Black American men to get together and talk about life, family and social issues. You can check it out on his Facebook page and gain some insight from someone who may not look or think like you! Bernadette and Dewone agree that hearing from a multitude of people with varying opinions on hot topics makes for good conversation and deepens understanding among varying crowds.

We also touch on virtual therapy. Bennett says it’s enabled those who couldn’t get to therapy in person before to have access to therapists. He doesn’t see this as a trend during COVID, but here to stay.
    Thank You!
A big thank you to our guests, Zen Honeycutt and Dewone Bennett. We can’t do the show without your input of knowledge!

  • #1286, Jared Ramirez, Von Eaglin

    Terrific Tuesday!
Happy Tuesday everyone! We have a great show in store for you all. CEO of Enviromedica, Jared Ramirez is here to discuss soil based probiotics. Longtime friend of the show Von Eaglin is here to talk about raising children successfully.
    Jared Ramirez
Jared Ramirez breaks down the types of probiotics. Spore-based were introduced about twenty years ago. The probiotic industry has been dogmatic over the past two decades. Ramirez says that the kind of probiotics found in yogurts and other food products are very sensitive and die off easily. If you order through Amazon, their warehouses can get up to over 100 degrees, which will kill off many types of bacteria. Spore-based probiotics can stand heat and other elements. You can send spore-based probiotics into space and they’ll come back the same. You can bake with them by putting them in your bread. But, all probiotics have a purpose.

Fermented foods are good for you, but the bacteria is sensitive so you have to be careful how it’s prepared. If you ferment your own food, you can have trillions of bacteria versus billions in most store bought probiotic foods. Try fermenting some of your favorites like sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha! Check out some of our favorite recipes here.
    Von Eaglin
Von Eaglin joins us to talk about his new addition to the family and parenting in general. He says the male needs to be attentive throughout the pregnancy, birth and afterwards. There are many parenting behaviors to avoid. He says a child’s emotional regulation is key. Parents can do a lot to help kids become emotionally intelligent. If a child can’t manage their emotions, they can’t make healthy decisions. The language parents use should never be judgmental. The child can also read your face. Even at a young age, parents need to interact with their child.

Emotion dismissive parents expect their children to change their emotions quickly. They want cheerful children, and have a hard time labeling emotions. You should never punish your child for having emotions. Validate their feelings instead. Emotion coaching parents understand emotion and use that as an opportunity to connect with their child. They will help their children articulate their feelings. Let your child feel emotions. It will make them smarter!
    Thank You!

  • #1285, Autumn Warren Connolly, Dr. Andrew Saul

    Happy Monday!
Bernadette gives an update from her weekend, where she found some dangerous spiders in her dog house! Don't fret, Autumn Warren Connolly is here to give advice on our 8 legged friends! Autumn says to be careful of closed in spaces like dog houses and sheds, as they can harbor creepy crawlers.
    Autumn Warren Connolly
Resident Earth Mama Autumn Warren Connolly talks today about how Dao can help you live a better life. Dao is something that’s pervasive in any spiritual belief. It keeps everything simple The basic principles of Dao are simplicity, harmony, going with the flow, and letting go. "The Way" is a simple way of describing the Dao. Allow yourself to be open to what comes and goes. Do not get hung up on material things or outward appearances. Accept it all knowing it’s all by grace and given to you as a gift.

Autumn says the versions have been translated over hundreds of years, but more so most recently. And, it’s translated for specific issues, i.e. how to be a better parent, how to handle an angry child, or a child with a learning issue. It allows you to lessen your anxiety by believing that you’re connected to everything. Autumn ends her segment with a chant for eternal optimism and contentment with your God's will.
    Dr. Andrew Saul
Dr. Andrew Saul joins us to talk about Vitamin C for addressing viral symptoms. Check out Dr. Saul's website to see all of his findings on recent global viruses. Dr. Saul talks about his findings using intervenes vitamin C. Censorship is discussed. A strong immune system is key to fighting off viruses and bacterias. Dr. Saul recommends 3000 milligrams of vitamin C, 4000 milligrams of magnesium, 20 milligrams of zinc, and 2000 ius of vitamin D, but only once a week to start your body on a viral fighting regiment.

  • #1284, Furry Friday With DallasDogrrr, PETA, SPCA

    Happy Furry Friday!
Happy Furry Friday everyone, we made it another week! We have a fabulous, furry, fun filled show for you all today! We have three admirable, fantastic women moving mountains for animal welfare. These three women are Furry Friday ambassadors! Everyone have a fantastic weekend, and remember to give your furry family member some extra pets and treats!
    Maura Davies of SPCA
Maura Davies is the Vice President for Marketing & Communications for the SPCA of Texas. Today, Maura is here to discuss more tips for summer pet safety. Some breeds are different from others when It comes to being able to sustain themselves outside in the heat. Brachia Systolic Breeds are a fancy word for dogs with little short pushed in noses. French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxers, Boston Terriers, Mastiffs, Shitzus and more are the kinds of dogs that have trouble breathing! It is a hot one today, remember to keep your animals hydrated, as well as yourself!

Watch out for heavy panting, excessive thirst, a bright red tongue, mucus membranes in jowls being grey, excessive drooling, and unsteadiness on your dog's feet! If you see these signs in your animals, bring them inside immediately and let them soak up that AC and shade! Cat's show similar signs as dogs when they are overheating, but cats are sneaky and hide symptoms... If you see any of these symptoms, call your vet immediately!
    Ingrid Newkirk of PETA
It wouldn't be a Furry Friday without Ingrid Newkirk! Since founding PETA, president Ingrid Newkirk has grown the group into the world’s largest animal rights organization. Today, Ingrid is here to talk about certain coconut water brands using and abusing animals to harvest coconut water. Monkeys are kept enslaved as coconut picking machines for us humans! That is Horrible! Monkeys are trained with force to climb trees and gather coconuts to be turned into coconut water. Harmless Harvest is the best bet for cruelty free coconut water, so free of monkey slavery. Ingrid says to read your labels, and if you are not sure, look to PETA's website for a concise list of cruelty free brands to purchase, so you can avoid funding animal cruelty. Speak with your wallet and avoid giving your money to companies that enslave animals.
    Patti Dawson of Dallas Dogrrr
Patti Dawson is here to wrap-up Furry Friday here at One Life Radio! There has been an increase in intakes at DallasDogrrr. There are many dogs left behind and in the most compromising situations who need help. DallasDogrrr currently has 276 animals in their care. If you or someone you know can qualify to foster, please do. Fostering an animal can help organizations like Dallas Dogrrr. By taking some responsibility off their paws, DallasDogrrr can tend to more animals in need! DallasDogrrr is launching virtual fostering for everyone who can not physically foster an animal. Virtual Fostering is just networking harder to place dogs and dogs who in need of the spotlight! Please continue to spay and neuter you pets so we can reduce the number of stray animals!
    Thank You
One Life Radio, The SPCA, PETA, and DallasDogrrr are asking you to ADOPT DON'T SHOP. Hundreds of animals are euthanized daily. Any Euthanized animal could have made a beautiful companion, but sadly did not have the chance. Please adopt your next animal, and help us end unnecessary euthanasia for cats and dogs in shelters.

If you would like to donate to DallasDogrrr so to help them save the animals in the most compromising of situations, click here!

  • #1283, Grief & Kip Watson, Engaged Parenting

    Happy Thursday!
Today we have a great show in store for you filled with a powerhouse of female energy, so sorry Renaldo! Kip Watson is a longtime One Life Radio friend and is here to talk about grief during this pivotal time. Dr.Lori Whattley is back to discuss engaged parenting during the age of digital devices.
    Kip Watson
Kip Watson is a Licensed Professional Counselor & Supervisor and Sports Psychology Professional. With nearly 20 years of experience with athletes, coaches, families, and corporate teams, Kip can do it all as a certified high performance coach. To read more about Kip as owner and founder of BrainCode Corps, click here.

Kip Watson says we can be going through grief for many things, not just death. You can grieve for lost income, lost job, not being with friends, not going to school, etc. Your anxiety and sadness are normal feelings. How long we stay focused on this pain differs with everyone. First, don’t deny your feelings. Name them and claim them, but don’t let them own you. Bernadette says that you have to work through your feelings. It’s easy to turn to destructive activities to deal with your grief like alcohol, pornography, and drugs.

Watson says to self-regulate your feelings, do your best to be optimistic and stay practicing gratitude. Own what has occurred, but don’t be a victim of your feelings and grief. Connect with your network of friends, church, or a professional, if needed. We have a belief that if we have anxiety and depression, there’s something wrong with us. That’s not the case. But, if you decide to stay in the grief, that’s where the problem lies, so change your beliefs to positivity!
    Dr. Lori Whatley
Next we have Dr. Lori Whatley talking about managing our kid’s digital devices during COVID-19. Dr. Whatley says there are so many other ways to entertain our kids during quarantine. Dr. Whatley says to get your kids engaged! Plan a picnic and have your child help prepare the basket, food, drink, and time! Don’t let your kids have extra time on the internet just because of COVID-19.

Dr. Whatley also stresses the importance of monitoring your child’s online presence on social media platforms. Unfortunately, it’s too easy for kids to find pornography, or be stalked by predators. Bernadette says that pornography is not a healthy way for our kids to learn about sexuality. Talk to your children about the internet, and be there for them if they have questions so they do not have to turn to the internet for answers.
    Thank You

  • #1281, Dr. Jose Antonio, Gratitude With Mo Brossette

    Terrific Tuesday
We hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday on this hot, sunny day here in Dallas, Texas or wherever you may be! One Life Radio veteran, Dr. Jose Antonio is back with us once again to discuss exercise and the brain. Mo Brossette is talking about practicing gratitude and how to stay present, even in the hardest of times.
    Dr. Jose Antonio
Dr. Jose Antonio is a long time friend of One Life Radio's. Dr. Antonio earned his PhD and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Jose Antonio is the founder and CEO of the ISSN! Check out his website here.

Dr. Jose Antonio says masks are important, but it’s more about keeping businesses alive and well. Restaurants want and need to stay open, and masks are mandated. So, if it helps them when you wear a mask, wear a mask. Bernadette and Dr, Joey talk about exercise and the brain. We know that exercise helps with brain health. He says 90-120 minutes of exercise per week can make a difference. But, we don’t know how much we need for sure, and more studies need to be done. For example, when we train for strength, we know how to design a routine to achieve the result we want. But, when we say we want to exercise to help brain health, we don’t know what to do yet.

Dr. Joey is currently studying creatine and brain health. He cites studies where people recovered from brain injuries faster when taking creatine. This could be huge in the sports world with all of the brain injuries through contact sports. Women may want to investigate further before taking it, because it may cause weight gain. Dr. Antonio says you want to take it for your brain, not necessarily your muscles. Dr. Joey Antonio ends the conversation asking why the US isn’t telling people to exercise along with washing hands and wearing masks when it comes to avoiding COVID. The US population is generally unhealthy and overweight. If we can get people to exercise and eat well, that will help them in the long run to avoid illness and have a better quality of life.
    Mo Brossette and Gratitude
Mo Brossette has been in the health and fitness industry for over 24 years, and he is currently the Director of Mindset and Nutrition at The Adaptive Training Foundation. The Adaptive Training Foundation is a Dallas based non-profit that leads disabled military veterans and civilians through a 9-week mental and physical training program called “Redefine”. Through this unique program, Mo helps these adaptive athletes overcome physical, emotional and mental pain, fear, and self-doubt. He is a corporate speaker on Fear and Human Potential, where he teaches companies and individuals how to achieve professional and personal goals, overcome limiting beliefs, and use fear as your greatest tool for success. You can find Mo here.

Today, Mo talks about gratitude and how to stay present. An easy suggestion to be mindful about what you're grateful for is journaling! Journaling is an easy way write down your gratitudes and how you're feeling for the day. No matter how bad your situation seems, you can practice gratitude. Instead of saying “Gratitude is hard” say “I will practice gratitude daily” Do this by journaling daily and repeating the phrase above. Practice mindfulness by understanding what you have the ability to change and what is out of your control. You won’t change the outcome of your situation by worrying about the future. If you can’t seem to get in gratitude or stay in the present, call Mo for a consultation or reach out to a professional for help.

  • #1280 Market Yourself, Steps to Self-Confidence

    Happy Monday!
Happy Monday everyone! We hope everyone had a great weekend filled with quality time with your loved ones. Speaking of loved ones, we LOVE today's guests! Autumn Warren Connolly is here to talk self confidence and Jason Harris is here to talk about how to market ourselves successfully!
    Jason Harris
Jason Harris is the Co-Founder & CEO of Mekanism, an award-winning creative advertising agency whose clients include Ben & Jerry’s, Peloton, OkCupid, MillerCoors and Alaska Airlines! Under his leadership, Mekanism was named to Ad Age’s Agency A-list and twice to their Best Places to Work. Mekanism was also named as one of Creativity’s Creativity 50. Jason’s national best-selling book, The Soulful Art of Persuasion, highlights the 11 habits you need to become more authentically—or soulfully— persuasive.

Bernadette and Jason Harris continue the conversation about how to effectively market yourself. Harris says that too often individuals go into a conversation wanting to mold themselves into what they think the other person wants to hear. This doesn’t always work. People can spot inauthenticity from a mile away. Once you know your brand and what you stand for, stick to your guns and be yourself and you will make a good impression. Also, during COVID, looking for a job is tough. Know what you want to do and seek out people and groups to network with. Also, when you get the interview appointment, research the company and know what they’re about. They want to know that you’re invested in them and not just the paycheck.
    Autumn Warren Connolly
Autumn Connolly talks about self-confidence. There is a streamlined approach to having self-confidence. Start by looking at your life and writing it down. If you’re not happy with some aspect of your life, don’t accept it. Come to an honest approach to why you’re dissatisfied with your life, and why you resist making this change. Once you’ve accepted a part of your life you don’t like, there are steps you can take to change it. Meditation is a great way to get in tune with yourself. Once you’re confident in yourself, you can treat life like a game, as in manipulate and change things that aren’t working. You have a freedom of being confident and not burdened by your insecurities. You can have successes and failures and be OK with it.
Thank You To Autumn and Jason!

    Stephanie Toups
Consumer advocate Stephanie Toups is here to discuss the importance of air quality in your home, and how to clean the air in your home! A simple tip is to use your hood vent in your home when you are cooking! If you don't have a hood vent, most microwaves have an air vent included. Stephanie suggests using essential oils for a multitude of reasons! Essential oils have antibacterial properties and are easy to implement in your home. Add a few drops of essential oil to your wool dryer balls for a simple change!

Symptoms of breathing in toxic air in your home include structural damage to the lungs, rashes, and asthma. Yikes! Set a reminder in your phone and remind yourself to change your air filter in your home! A cute, safe addition to your home to help clean the air in your home is houseplants! Houseplants can be a safer alternative to typical paraffin candles. Stephanie says that little changes can add up to create a clean air home.
