  • Benefits of Sweat, Quarantine for Extroverts, Cognitive Bias
Benefits of Sweat - Tina Bernet
Sweating is good for you! One of our favorite fitness trainers at One Life Radio, Tina Bernet, is back to talk about the benefits of sweat for removing toxins from the body. There are so many ways your body takes in toxins; food, air, household products, cleaners and more. BPAs and PCBs are two of the most dangerous industrial chemicals still found in items we use daily. The water bottles most of us use every day can have certain amounts of BPA. It's released into our systems, especially when the bottles have been in the sun or heated during delivery.  Bernet says we can manage the amount of these toxins by drinking from glass bottles whenever possible.

Bernet also reminds us that sweat is a bacterial cleanser. If you get stinky from time to time, you probably have more bacteria in your system than normal. Drinking lots of water will help to eliminate the extra bacteria. Don't be afraid to sweat it out!

Quarantine Advice for Extroverts - Von Eaglin
Next, Von Eaglin is back to talk about the differences for quarantine for an extrovert versus an introvert. Basically, everyone has a genetic predisposition to be wired a certain way. Their environment growing up also plays a part in their overall personal make-up. Extroverts love engaging with other people. That doesn’t mean that they can’t be alone as well, but quarantine will be more difficult without the stimuli of interaction with others. Von's tips for extroverts? Make a plan for ways to connect with people. Write letters, set up a zoom meeting, make TikTok videos for your friends or call family you haven’t talked to in a while.
Cognitive Bias - What is it, and do you have it? - Von Eaglin
Von stays with One Life Radio to discuss cognitive bias. This is a type of thinking when people interpret information and simplify it based on their beliefs and environment. It's a way for people to protect themselves, but it can turn into discriminatory thinking. For instance, when you think you're a great driver, but you also believe that certain ethnicities or genders are bad drivers, it’s cognitive bias. Studies have shown that most people believe that they are better at certain things than most people, when statistically they aren’t. People with cognitive bias think they don’t need self-improvement or more education on a subject, when in reality, they don’t know the subject they are talking about at all. For example, someone who watches basketball on TV may think they are good at playing basketball when they haven't played at all.

Eaglin sites the Johari Method as the standard used to enhance individual’s perception on others. Read more about the Johari Method here.

Listen to the entire podcast for more on the benefits of sweating, quarantine ideas for extroverts and cognitive bias. All of us at One Life Radio thank everyone for tuning in.

  • The Spiritual Daily, Mind Over Weight, Exercise and Immunity

    The Spiritual Daily
Our own Navee Mendoza kicks of the show with a much-needed dose of The Spiritual Daily. Mendoza says to remember that your thoughts can affect your environment. If you're feeling sad or nervous about the current COVID-19 scare, turn off the news for a day. Spend time thinking of positive thoughts and send them out into the universe! Check out The Spiritual Daily on facebook for more powerful messages!
Dr. Ian K. Smith and his new book, Mind Over Weight
We are so excited to have Dr. Ian Smith on for the launch of his new book, Mind over Weight: Curb Cravings, Find Motivation and Hit Your Numbers in 7 Simple Steps.

Dr. Smith’s new book has seven valuable lessons to teach us how to unlock our motivation for healthy eating.  He explains why we so often try a diet for a while, but eventually revert back to donuts and french fries. The main culprit to overeating is dopamine. This chemical in our brain is released whenever we see a food we like. If you love chocolate cake, your brain automatically releases dopamine upon seeing a cake. And, it happens every time until you develop a "craving".  The good news is that cravings are transient. If you remove yourself or avoid the cake all together, your craving will go away, too. You can outlast your craving!  Dr. Smith's book also lists some amazing sweet but healthy swaps you can use while learning to manage your cravings. He also recommends chewing gum, staying hydrated, sleeping and chromium to maintain insulin levels.

You can now order Mind Over Weight online. Follow Dr. Smith on instagram and get his Shelter-in-Place Meal Guidelines Plan for free!
    Tina Bernet
Tina Bernet of Extreme Studio Performance talks about exercise and immunity. We have plenty of time to exercise right now. While, it's not proven that exercise directly helps immunity, it does provide physiological effects that will affect overall health and well-being. You can find hundreds of exercise routines on the internet, but Bernet says to chose your workouts wisely. She recommends youtube.com to find all kinds of workouts. Chose the ones that are on your fitness level. Also, walk, ride your bike or do anything outdoors using social distancing. Outdoor activity is great for overall well-being. Also, make sure you have achievable goals. Once you hit your first one, make another slightly larger one. Small changes lead to big results.

  • Dangers of Online Dating; Supplements for Anxiety, cont.
Dewone Bennett talks about the dangers of online dating sites. There are a lot of scammers out there today. Bennett gives us signs to look for to make sure you're not getting taken for a ride. You can now check photos over multiple websites to see if they are a real person. Google the person and see what comes up. Always verify as much information as you can. Also, be careful about the information you provide because online trolls can use it to scam or stalk you. If you'd like to talk to Dewone about your online dating experiences or fears, visit his site for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Bennett recommends trying a "virtual first date" rather than meet in person for the initial meeting. Figure out if you hit it off on facetime or zoom, and then make a decision if you'd like to move forward.

Jill Lane continues down her list of holistic remedies for anxiety. Anxiety is normal. You should talk to your doctor when it starts to get in the way of your day. Lemon Balm, Holy Basil and Passion Flower are some mild herbs you can add in tea. Lane suggests Vitamin D and fish oils for anxiety as well as a number of other health benefits.

Lane also touches on how much protein we really need. Everyone is different when it comes to protein intake. Children need more as they grow. Athletes need more because they need amino acids for muscles to repair themselves after a workout. She'll expand on the topic next week. You can learn more about Jill at jilllane.com

Thanks for listening to One Life Radio. Remember to be careful when online dating! If you have any ideas for topics or questions, email us at [email protected]

  • Children’s Health Defense response to COVID-19
Today we are joined by Mary Holland with Children’s Health Defense. Holland tells us about the government and private sector response to COVID-19. She implies that rather than focus on treating the virus with current treatments, the government and private sector may want something new. There is money to be made with a new medicine or vaccine rather than something tried-and-true. Is the government putting financial gain in front of our safety?

To get a better perspective of our preparedness for this pandemic, the members of Children's Health Defense recommend watching the Event 201 study. The people who participated in Event 201 are scientists, business owners, ex-CIA and other government officials. It's a round-table discussion on how to deal with a pandemic. Will the government follow their advice?

Mo Brossette joins us to talk about the importance of patience during this crisis. Remember it's all perspective. Yes, it's a challenge to stay home, but Brossette says that we can choose to be negative or positive. We've all said, "If I only had another 24 hours." Well, we have the time now. Take this time as an opportunity to learn about yourself. Be still and focus on what you can do to help yourself and others.

Here are some articles from Children's Health Defense relating to today's topic:

https://childrenshealthdefense.org/news/dr-fauci-and-covid-19-priorities-therapeutics-now-or-vaccines-later/This is about why we should be prioritizing therapeutics rather than vaccines to deal with COVID-19.
https://childrenshealthdefense.org/news/what-we-can-learn-from-a-pandemic-tabletop-exercise/This was an exercise in October 2019 that has startling similarities to what we’re going through.
https://childrenshealthdefense.org/related-disorders/autism/us-autism-rates-up-10-percent-in-new-cdc-report/The national autism numbers from late March show that the current rate of autism is 1 in 54 and boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls.
https://childrenshealthdefense.org/news/will-deaths-of-despair-outpace-deaths-from-coronavirus/ The models dealing with COVID-19 seem not to have included the deaths that will certainly come from the financial crash.

  • SPCA Update, 5G, Robin Perry Braun and Jonny Bowden

We always love to talk to Maura Davies from the SPCA.
She updated us on the pets currently in the SPCA shelters and how we can all help. The centers are currently closed, but she let us know the animals are all being cared for and are getting lots of love. While they aren’t adopting pets at this time, or allowing volunteers, you can go to spca.org/shop to donate food and other items to pets.
Next we have Debra Greene, PhD, and author of “Endless Energy” calling from Hawaii.
Greene says Trump has passed two laws during lockdown to promote the growth of 5G networks across the U.S. Companies are using this downtime to install 5G antennas on schools. You can visit childrenhealthdefense.org to read more about it. Many scientists and experts agree that 5G is harmful to humans and the planet.
Robin Perry Braun gives us more ways to manage anxiety.
Again, diet is so important. We all need to get enough vitamins including B & C. Braun also talks about quantum physics, understanding the science of energy. This includes the Laws of attraction and expansion. Our thoughts, emotions and energy manifest things in the universe. When we focus on one thing, we add energy to what we're thinking about. So, if we only focus on problems, the problems grow. The good news is the opposite is true. So, it truly is mind over matter. Pay attention to what you are thinking. Think of solutions rather than problems, keep a gratitude journal and know that this too shall pass. Fear stands for False Events Appearing Real. Know the difference between reality and fear and know that you can change your thoughts.
Dr. Jonny Bowden closes the show discussing the differences on how we respond to the COVID-19 crisis.
People are finding opportunities to reconnect with friends, old coworkers and family. Others are stockpiling ammunition, food and more. He says take care of yourself and relax! Bowden's six supplements for immunity: Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc, NAC (N-Acetyl L-Cysteine), Elderberry extract and olive leaf extract.

Everyone have a great weekend and remember to help the SPCA! We'll keep you updated on the shelters in the coming weeks.

  • Supplement Therapy, Probiotics and Parenting without Stereotypes

Jill Lane joins us for the second time this week to continue our conversation regarding alternative health and supplement therapy. As we all have learned, sleep is so important for overall health. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try Valerian Root or Lemon Balm tea. Jill works with our partner, Thorne Research, and is an expert in supplement therapy. Don't forget to check out our Thorne page for 20% off.

Jared Ramirez from Environmedica  brings us his knowledge expert advice on probiotics and immunity. Environmedica formulates and manufactures all of their products on-site, so they know everything that goes into each bottle inside and out. Ramirez reminds us about the importance of gut health in relation to our overall well-being, especially during COVID-19.  It's important to manage our good and bad gut bacteria at all times, but especially now.  Ramirez says to continue healthy eating, get enough sleep and use a probiotic supplement like Terraflora, if you need an extra boost. Here's another show to reference regarding immune support during COVID-19

Kip Watson discusses raising boys without stereotypes. She says the masculine qualities we used to deem important when raising boys have changed. Gender diversity is becoming more and more common. Watson thinks we can help children develop their own personalities by celebrating the traits they lean towards naturally. But, it's important to teach them to act out these personality traits appropriately, whether masculine or feminine. Let them know all of these qualities and traits or leanings are OK, as long as they are always respectful and loving to those around them.

  • Family Safe Rooms, PaleoBOSS Lady and Exercise and Immunity
We're excited to have Dr. Steve Schwartz on the show today talking about family safe rooms. Schwartz has great advice for planning ahead with a family safe room. There are important steps you can take prior to a health emergency to ensure that your family stays as safe and healthy as possible. This is where the safe room comes into play. Once you have chosen your designated area to be your safe room, the only ones who should go in that room are the sick family member and the caretaker. The caretaker must wear a mask and gloves when in the safe room. A great tip from Dr. Schwartz is to leave your masks in a paper bag when you're done and use them over again. Just be sure not to get them wet. Items to store in your safe room include a disposable trash can with a foot pedal, certain medications you may need and masks & gloves. Also, be sure to prepare food separately for the infected family member and keep the dishes separate. He also says to stay away from Advil and ibuprofen, but use acetaminophen instead. And, stay hydrated!

Our friend, V. Capaldi, AKA PaleoBOSS Lady, talks about how she's coping with the current COVID-19 crisis. Supplements are a big part of Capaldi's life. She works with a homeopathic specialist to help to stay healthy along with social distancing, dog walking and especially keeping herself and her household sterilized and clean.

And, last but not least, Tina Bernet tells us how exercise can help boost your immune system. Bernet says that consistent, moderate exercise is key. Over exercising can harm your immune system and damage muscles.

  • What to do when you don’t like your partner?

Today's show covers a number of topics. Dewone Bennett tells us what to do when we don't like our partner, Jill Lane deals with anxiety holistically and Sam Morris compares quarantine to going to rehab.

Our first guest Jill Lane talks about how to deal with anxiety through holistic methods. For example, lavender can affect alpha waves in the brain to ease stress and anxiety. Bernadette sites an article stating that lavender has shown to be very effective for GAD (general anxiety disorder). Lane also mentions amino acids found in green tea to help anxiety. Always be sure to talk to your physician before starting any medication, pharmaceutical or holistic, to make sure they don’t interact.

Next, we talk to Sam Morris regarding the similarities of rehab and quarantine. As a recovering addict, Morris went to rehab multiple times and is now a certified addiction specialist. He compares rehab to a "break" for both he and his family, similar to this COVID-19 self-quarantine.

Lastly, we talk to long-time guest and friend of One Life Radio, Dewone Bennett about what to do if we don't like our partner. Bennett says people who as a child felt like they weren't good enough bring that belief with them into their relationship as an adult. They either overcompensate for their feelings, or don't try at all. This belief can lead to arguing over small things rather than face the real issue. Healthy relationships are formed with people who truly know themselves.

  • Make the most of your time at home during the COVID-19 crisis.
Bernadette Fiaschetti and One Life Radio continue to bring you the most current advice and information during the COVID19 outbreak. One of our favorite guests, Jamie Lee Frazier, talks about how to keep your business going during this crisis. For instance, be sure and go through your feelings of anxiety and know everyone is going through them. Also, reach out to other people including your mentors, keep up with routines, meditate, open windows, get outside (with social distancing) and connect with nature.

Mike McFarland adds to the conversation with examples how we can make the most of sheltering in place. Mike tells us that social isolation is a big contributor to stress. We need to connect with people who are important in our lives. Keep kids busy by chores, reading, work in the yard, etc. Restrict screen time. Keep up with exercise, play with your pets and give them lots of love and affection. They are there for you! Tackle the projects you’ve been putting off – paint a room, clean your closets, etc.

And, finally, Mo Brossette talks about how this world-wide stay at home policy is helping to create lasting change for the planet. Brossette explains how pollution has decreased exponentially during the virus, and we need to take note and make lasting changes in our lives. Everyone staying home is actually giving the planet a chance to breath. We need to reevaluate our lives, consume less, give back and realize what we need versus what we want and cut back. Mo says to remember you can create your own thoughts; that you have what you need and you are safe and in control.

We can all get through this together if we stay connected!
