  • Leadership & Entrepreneurship, Back to Basics on Health and Fitness #1085

Today Daniel Alonzo joins us to talk about leadership and entrepreneurship. And we have Tina Bernet in studio talking about getting back to basics on health and fitness.
    Leadership and Entrepreneurship
Daniel Alonzo decided in his 20's to drop out of college and take his business journey into his own hands. He learned at a fast pace how to be a great leader and climb the ladder to become as successful as possible. Now, Daniel and his wife are sitting pretty on an income that they never dreamed possible.

Daniel talks with us today about his financial journey and what it took for him to get where he is today. Deciding to go the entrepreneurship route can be so intimidating, but the key is working hard and living below your means. The sacrifices you have to make will make some people turn away immediately. But for those who have the "whatever it takes" mentality, becoming a successful entrepreneur and leader are absolutely possible.
Back to Basics: Health and Fitness
Tina Bernet is one of the top female personal trainers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She has a passion for fitness and overall health, and strives to help her clients achieve their highest goals. Today we are going back to the basics.

Sometimes, fitness routines and meal plans can be difficult. They are too complex, require too much equipment or time, or are just too expensive. These can hinder someone from starting their fitness/health journey. Tina gives us advice on some of her exercise routines for certain body types or physique goals. If you are not wanting to bulk or the opposite, there are certain exercises you should and shouldn't do. She also cracks down on some of the exercise myths out there.

  • Jill Lane: Food Preservation, Hydration, Afternoon Slump #1084

Today is a mash-up with Jill Lane. We cover topics including: food preservation tips, back to school supplements for stress relief, staying hydrated without water, and avoiding the afternoon slump.
Jill Lane is a pro-athlete health and nutrition coach. She is also a long time OLR regular with so much knowledge on nutrition for performance and overall health. One common misconception about food preservation is with washing your produce. Do you wash when you bring it home, or right before you eat? Where in the fridge is the proper place for fruits and veggies? Food waste is such a problem here in the United States, it's estimated that almost 40% of our food gets thrown in the trash. Jill gives us tips to help us preserve our food so that it is not being wasted because of mold or not being eaten.

Next we talk about back to school supplements for stress relief. This applies to parents, teachers, and kids. The beginning of the school year is a hectic and busy time, self-care can sometimes fall on the back burner. In this Take 5 Daily blog you can shop some of the amazing supplements recommended by Thorne to help keep your stress levels at bay.

Staying hydrated...without water? For some, drinking the recommended daily amount of water is extremely difficult. Or simply, you may just not like water. There are other ways to get hydrated, this blog explains it all for you.

So, 3 o'clock hits and the headache sinks in, you feel like you hit a wall. This is something that is oh, so common among most of us. Working an 8-12 hour shift and making sure you don't crash usually involves lots of coffee/Red Bull/Monster, take your pick. Jill talks to us about how to handle the afternoon slump as well as the root of what might be causing it in the first place.

  • Living Fit with Kids, Music’s Influence on Attitudes Toward Women #1083

Today we have Drew Manning joining us to talk about how to live fit with your kids, and Dr. Mike McFarland talks about how music influences our attitudes toward women.
    Living Fit with Kids
Working out and eating clean can sometimes make a parent feel more distant from their children. Time spent at the gym, and watching what you eat can all drive a wedge between you and your kids. But it doesn't have to be that way. Drew Manning is a health and fitness expert and author of the New York Time Best-Seller, Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose.

He has two daughters of his own that have come along with him on his fitness journeys. Living fit with your kids is absolutely possible and will even help to create stronger relationships. The power of cooking together and enjoying the meal that you prepared together is so amazing. Drew talks about how he has taught his children how to prepare food, as well as doing things active together. Then we go into how often we should allow ourselves and our children to splurge on sweet treats and the not-so-healthy stuff.
    Music & Women
The way we treat women and the way women believe they should be treated is a something that is learned. We are not born instinctively knowing how we should be treated and treat others, that is why we are taught. For example, think about the golden rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Do you put that into practice everyday? The answer is, probably not. Today's pop music is loaded with derogatory statements, explicit sexual content, and blatant disrespect of women.

Dr. Mike McFarland is a licensed psychologist, and he talks with us today about how music has changed and what it is doing to us psychologically. The science is shocking on how impactful song lyrics can be to someones behavior and beliefs. If you look back at music in decades past, you will notice how different the way women and sex were described. Nowadays it can be explicit, and even violent. This does not apply to ALL pop music, but a vast majority. We have become desensitized to so many things, and the words in our music today is definitely one of them.

  • Censorship of Vaccine Choice Organizations & Vaccine Free Living #1080

The topic of vaccine free living is becoming one of the most talked about topics in the community. This is completely understandable with all the new vaccine injury reports on the rise. With all these reports coming in, why are we still being told by the media and medical community that vaccine studies are "settled"?
On the show today we have Andreas Bachmair talking about vaccine free living. His journey with the study of vaccines started about 30 years ago after he was bit by a dog. While he was getting his bite checked out he insisted on getting the rabies shot as a safety precaution, resulting in him developing type 1 diabetes. This peaked Andreas interest to change his field of study from Business Administration to Homeopathy shortly after. He comes on the show today to share his experience and valuable information on vaccines and their effects on humans.

We also have Jackie Schlegel in studio with us today. Jackie is a very influential leader for the vaccine fight here in Texas. She is the creator of one of the largest vaccine activist groups, Texans for Vaccine Choice. Jackie joins us today to talk about all the new vaccine censorship that is now across most search engine platforms including all social media.

  • 3 Ways Parents Undermine Their Child’s Sense of Identity #1079

In today's episode, Dewone Bennett explains how you can empower your child's sense of identity to help them live a more fulfilling life.
We all love our children and want them to live great lives. It's important to remember that sometimes our love if not channeled correctly can end up hindering instead of helping them. Our job as parents is to set the stage for our children to flourish so that they are able to stay grounded in who they are when they go out into the world and hopefully never question their sense of identity. Seeking constant outside approval or constantly going with the crowd are some signs that your child isn't grounded in who they are. A habit that more and more children seem to be falling into by the day!

Dewone goes over some parent behaviors that make kids fear making mistakes which can also lead to having a fear of taking risks. He talks about habits you can cultivate that will help guide their sense of identity and encourage them to view making mistakes in a positive new light. Creating a safe space where children feel accepted and encouraged to express themselves freely can make all the difference in the developing years.  The more children feel loved and accepted, the more they will confidently grow into themselves.

How to Get Back Your Creativity & Why You Lost It
Mo Brossette is the director of nutrition and mindset at the Adaptive Training Foundation. He speaks to a variety of different types of groups about mindset, goals, and overcoming fears. He also works with wounded vets on regaining strength and mobility. Today, Mo and his wife Alix join us to talk about creativity. Some people may think they are not "creative" people, or they are more right brain than left. But creativity lives within all of us. Mo talks today about what are some reasons we may feel we have lost touch with our creative side, and how to get it back.
    Probiotics for Gut Health
We all know the buzz words "gut health" and "microbiome" that are floating around everywhere. Everyone suddenly seems to recognize just how important our gut health is. It all starts with our mother's milk when we are babies. This sets a foundation for a healthy gut microbiome later in life. Then we play in the dirt and expose ourselves to so many different bacterias that train our immune system and diversify our gut. These super important stages of life are starting to dissipate with the over sanitization of every little thing. Along with the overuse of antibiotics, which wreak havoc on our gut.

Jared Ramirez is the CEO of Enviromedica. He joins us to talk all about probiotics. There are a lot out there on the market, but one is set apart from the rest, and that's Terraflora. If you are looking for a new probiotic that checks all the boxes for quality and efficacy, Enviromedica's Terraflora is it. Listen in to hear some interesting stuff about the gut microbiome that you may not know.
    Disaster Preparedness for Pets
Fires, Floods, Tornadoes, Earthquakes....these are all things that could happen (depending on where you live) and you need to be prepared for. Furthermore, you need to think about all your family members, including your pets. It is so sad if you've ever seen a dog chained up to a porch during a flood or hurricane, but sometimes we don't know what the best thing to do is. Maura Davies with the SPCA tells us exactly how to prepare for our pets if this situation ever happens to you.

  • Saying No & Suicide and Gun Violence #1076

Today we talk with DeWone Bennett about saying no and why it may be more difficult for you. Dr. Art Markman talks about suicide and the relation to guns.
    Why Can't I Say No?
DeWone Bennett is a licensed professional counselor with two masters degrees, one in counseling and another in psychology. Today our topic with DeWone is saying no, specifically why it's so hard to say no. The "say yes" mentality is great, but it can put you in a predicament where you over commit and wear yourself out. Saying no is absolutely O.K. and will not create a bad relationship between you and whoever is asking you to do something.

The biggest fear in saying no is that you will ruin a friendship or hurt someone. But in all reality, we have to learn how to say no and make sure we are only committing to what we are capable of. DeWone talks to us today about what is behind the fear of saying no, and how to overcome it.

Here is a link to a show we did with Dr. Mark Goulston, the co-creator of the documentary "Stay Alive" for suicide prevention.
    Suicide and Gun Violence
Dr. Art Markman is a psychology professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Today we talk with Dr. Markman about suicide and guns. The statistics of suicide rates are rising, and the violence associated with suicide is rising. This is a very heavy topic, but it is also so relevant. The blame game seems to go onto the gun in a mass shooting, but what about a suicide? The real issue at hand is knowing the mental state of the people around you. One shocking statistic is that most people who attempt suicide and live to talk about it end up regretting it and never attempting again. This speaks volumes about why it is so important to help and encourage those around you who might be struggling NOT to take that plunge.
