  • Pursuing the Spirit - Grieving and Quenching

Are you satisfied with your current relationship with God, or do you want more of His presence and nearness? A.W. Tozer once said we have as much of God as we actually want, inviting us to examine how we engage with Him. The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, but God Himself—our Advocate, the Spirit of truth, with us and in us. Because He is personal, He can be grieved or quenched when we neglect relationship, rely on ourselves, resist His work, or confine Him to what feels comfortable. While this doesn’t remove us from Christ, it can dull our awareness of God’s joy, peace, love, and nearness. The invitation is to reflect honestly on where we may have poured water on the Spirit’s work instead of fanning it into flame.

  • Pursuing the Spirit - Filled

Because we are Jesus people, we want all that Jesus has for us, and that means being a Spirit-empowered people. We live in a time with more Christian content and resources than ever before, yet the church can feel weaker and less effective than what we see in Scripture. The early church had far less than we do, and yet the gospel spread like wildfire because they were filled with the Holy Spirit in an extraordinary way. Jesus told His disciples to wait until they received power from the Spirit, showing that the Holy Spirit is not an optional extra but a necessity for the mission. This invites us to consider what we believe “normal” Christianity is—whether it’s shaped by tradition or by the Word of God—and to recognize the two primary works of the Holy Spirit: His indwelling work in every believer at salvation, and His ongoing infilling that empowers us again and again. As followers of Jesus, we are called to want more of God and to position ourselves for the infilling of the Holy Spirit through surrender, obedience, and persistent asking, becoming a people marked by His presence.

  • Advent: When Heaven Breaks In

Christmas is more than nostalgia or sentiment. It marks the moment God stepped into our world to begin the redemption of all things. In Luke 2, we’re invited to let the birth of Jesus interrupt our assumptions about this season and encounter the God of the nativity as He truly is. The angel doesn’t appear to the powerful or the polished, but to shepherds—men considered unclean, uneducated, poor, and socially insignificant. Yet these unlikely, unnamed outsiders are chosen to hear the good news first, reminding us that God’s kingdom is wonderfully upside down. Joy erupts when the gospel is fully understood, and this good news really is for all people. The shepherds respond with immediate faith—going, seeing, proclaiming, and worshiping. This Christmas, we’re invited to do the same: to not delay obedience, to proclaim what we’ve heard, and to worship our King with great joy, confident that the gospel has truly changed us.

  • Advent: Choosing Faith Over Control

What if the interruptions in your life are actually invitations to trust God more deeply? This week, we look at the birth of Jesus through the eyes of Joseph—a man faced with decisions that would reshape his life forever. From choosing compassion over reputation, believing an impossible truth, obeying God amid uncertainty, and ultimately rearranging his entire life around Jesus, Joseph models quiet faithfulness and courageous obedience. What felt like chaos was actually God’s providence at work, revealing that faith often requires trust before understanding. Joseph’s story invites us to ask the same questions: Will we believe God’s word? Will we obey when the path is unclear? And are we willing to reorder our lives around the person of Jesus—trusting that He is worth everything?

  • Advent: When God Steps Into the Impossible

In the first message of our Advent series, we looked at Luke 1:26–37, when Gabriel comes to Mary and announces God’s plan for her to carry Jesus, the Messiah. This familiar moment draws us into the wonder of a God who enters ordinary lives and accomplishes what we could never make happen on our own. Mary faces a choice: hold onto the story she expected, or surrender to God’s greater story. She doesn’t fixate on how this will work but focuses instead on who is speaking to her–the one who makes impossible, possible! Her response is to magnify the Lord, allowing her life to make God look big. Because He has done great things for her, her story becomes a witness to His power and faithfulness. And for those of us in Christ, the same is true for us. God has done great things in our stories! The question is whether we will surrender our lives fully to Him, trusting that nothing is impossible with God.

  • Family Service: Three Pictures of a Wholehearted Disciple

This weekend at our Family Service, we looked at the story Paul tells in 2 Timothy 1:5 about how faith first took root in Timothy through his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Their home wasn’t perfect or put-together; Acts 16:1 shows us that Timothy’s dad wasn’t a believer, and the family was divided in their faith. But God has never been limited by messy families! He loves to make something beautiful out of places that feel broken. Paul then gives us three pictures of wholehearted discipleship: a soldier who stays focused on the One who enlisted him, an athlete who trains with intention, and a farmer who works faithfully even when growth is slow. Does my life compel my children—and anyone watching—to follow Jesus? May we be a church full of steady, wholehearted disciples.

  • The Gospel of Mark: What Jesus Has to Say About the End Times

Are you living like this world is your home or like Jesus is truly coming back for you? In Mark 13:1–31, Jesus speaks into the unthinkable—the fall of the temple—and uses it to open our eyes to the bigger story God is writing. He lays out the signs that will unfold: deception, disasters, persecution, tribulation, and ultimately His return in power and glory. But woven through it all is a steady hope to not be afraid. God holds His people with a grip stronger than anything we face. And because His return is certain, it carries an urgency meant to wake us up. This world is passing away, so don’t settle into a half-hearted life. Go all in for Jesus. His coming changes everything about how we live right now.
