$msft hiring Sam and Greg means it took a step back in ai but if managed correctly then they have the lead. They owned 49% of open ai and now own 100%. Win for $msft. OpenAI on the other hand may have a skeletal staff and $msft can back out of that deal at any moment. My opinion - the board was inept and wanted to hold control. Even if they had fears of general ai being achieved - they took any investor or any manager at that company (all of which were hired by Sam) and said “we don’t want to be a profitable company. The board was filled with people who didn’t think through things. 

Twitter is filled with this message including from the person the board said was ceo on Friday and just replaced. It’s clear they are all following Sam and there will be some people left to help Sam and Greg dismantle open ai.
