Today’s program is a follow up to last week’s program about transitions. I talked last time about transitions as denoting passages from one stage of our lives into another. That is, crossing from here to there, from then to now. One way we mark transitions is by considering the passage of time, and today’s program is about that notion, about the fact, the idea, and the metaphysical value of “time.”

Today’s program is about transitions. The transition I talk about in today's poems has a visual as well as a wide thematic dimension. It is, in fact, what these programs are all about: Open Windows. The window is a wonderful invention. It keeps the outside world out and enables the inside world to be contained and safe. But because it is made of glass, it enables us to look out and to look in. It enables us to transition in both directions. Let’s think together about windows.

Today’s program focuses on longing, love, pagan romantic relationships, and the Odyssey. It includes my translations of poems by Lithuanian poets Sigitas Geda and Judita Vaičiūnaitė.  It ends with two poems of my own from my book The Kingfisher's Reign (2012).

Episode 2 focused on poems about women. I began with short poems written by two Lithuanian women poets about women and then ended with two poems of my own in which women play a central structural and metaphoric role. 

Today’s program focuses on my translations of poems about women written by two Lithuanian men  poets, Kornelijus Platelis and Henrikas Radauskas. Because I included two of my poems about women last time, today I include two of my poems about men. They are from my forthcoming book Notebook Sketches and from my book The Kingfisher's Reign (2012).
