With a career that spans over three decades, Snow's passion for polo has not waned; at nearly 60 years of age, he continues to make significant contributions to the game.

Commencing his professional playing journey in 1988, Snow has evolved into a seasoned player with an impressive track record. His prowess on the polo field extends beyond his skillful play to encompass a profound knowledge of horses. As a testament to his deep connection with these majestic animals, Snow, alongside his wife Shelly, operates his own breeding operation, emphasizing his commitment to nurturing and developing top-notch polo horses.

One of the pivotal moments in Snow's illustrious career came in 2002 when he clinched his first U.S. Open Polo Championship®. This victory marked a defining achievement in a tournament featuring 15 teams at the formidable 26-goal level.

Reflecting on his career highlights, Snow also fondly recalls playing in Argentina, notably at Palermo in 1999. His experience, representing Hurlingham was nothing short of a dream. Additionally, the joy of playing alongside his brother Andrew during their inaugural high-goal season at Palm Beach in 1991 holds a special place in Snow's heart.

Snow continues to express his ongoing enthusiasm for the sport, sharing insights into his current focus on 6, 8, or 12-goal polo. Undeterred by the changing landscape of the game, Snow remains dedicated to the competitive spirit, fueled by a passion for playing with exceptional horses.

Beyond the polo field, Snow's commitment to the sport manifests in his literary endeavors. With the book "Polo Life: Horses, Sport, 10 and Zen," and now “Winning with Horses” co-written with his wife Shelly Onderdonk. Adam Snow's journey in polo reflects not only a remarkable athletic career but also a profound connection to the essence of the sport and a commitment to its continual evolution.

On this Episode of Outside the Boards, I am excited to introduce you to Mexico’s, Polo Trailblazer, Gerardo Luis Castillo. In the vibrant realm of equestrian sports in Mexico, Gerardo emerges as a pivotal figure, spearheading Mexico’s Polo Fest, now in its third edition in Mexico City. Luis-Castillo has been acknowledged by Paddock Magazine in 2022 for his exceptional collaboration and dedication to promoting the equestrian world through the organization of this prestigious event.

 Gerardo sheds light on the genesis of Polo Fest, tracing its roots to the resurgence of polo's popularity and significant growth in participants. Discussing the deep-seated traditions of polo in Mexico, Gerardo highlights its historical connection with the military, serving as a robust training ground for warhorses. The army's prominent team and the existence of polo fields like Campo Marte and the grounds of the National Auditorium reflect Mexico's enduring polo legacy.

 Charting the evolution of polo in Mexico, Gerardo notes the establishment of new clubs and the crucial support from investors. With over 30 years of experience, he observes a substantial increase in players nationwide, emphasizing the growth in the sport's popularity. 

 In constant search to improve the experience of the Polo Fest event, this year’s championship will be 16 goals and in 2025 organizers are working to make the event 22 goals. This year marks 10 years since the death of CARLOS GRACIDA, who was the best Mexican player of recent times and winner of the world’s most prestigious tournaments. The 2024 Polo Fest event will be in memory and tribute to this great athlete, who was  friend to Gerardo and with whom he had the opportunity to learn and play  with at a very young age.

 Looking ahead, Gerardo envisions a promising future for polo in Mexico. Gerardo’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and growth of polo is evident, making him a driving force behind the sport's resurgence in Mexico.

On this Episode of Outside the Boards, I am excited to introduce you to one of women’s best and rising polo stars, Isabella “Issy” Wolf. From Middleburg, Virginia, Issy is a seasoned professional polo player, has traversed the globe, yet the allure of her hometown remains unparalleled. Raised in Middleburg and a graduate of the University of Virginia, Issy, now 33, is deeply connected to the town's equestrian culture and tight-knit community.

Issy's equestrian roots trace back to her parents, retired orthopedic surgeon Bill Wolf and Francesca Spano, who introduced her to horses as a toddler. Her introduction to polo began at the young age of nine after hopes of becoming a jockey fell through because of her height. Her talent continued on into college as she played a crucial role in her school's two-time national collegiate championship-winning polo team. 

Beyond her exploits on the polo field, Issy boasts a multi-faceted career. A real estate agent at Thomas & Talbot Estate Properties, she seamlessly blends her passion for horses with property dealings. Her adeptness extends to managing social media for local businesses, fostering connections between the equestrian and real estate realms.

Middleburg’s charm, with its preserved small-town character and flourishing local businesses, captivates Issy. Every visit to a local coffee shop becomes a reunion, showcasing the enduring warmth of the community where she grew up.

Issy's commitment to community service shines through her support for The Middleburg Humane Foundation, the Windy Hill Foundation, and the Piedmont Environmental Council. Skolnik emphasizes breeding 100% for polo, ensuring the horses understand the nuances of the game. Isinya offers various breeding options, including shipped semen and embryo transfer, catering to the needs of high-goal players. Skolnik's hands-on approach includes early human contact for foals, fostering comfort and affection, setting a foundation for successful training.

On this Episode of Outside The Boards, I am thrilled to welcome founder and visionary of Replay Polo, Brittany Halstead. In 2016, Brittany laid the foundation for Replay Polo, a transformative initiative inspired by her extraordinary journey with a polo pony. The genesis of Replay Polo traces back to 2014 when Brittany, riding and training in Argentina with Olympic riders and high-goal polo trainers, experienced a near-fatal car accident. Suffering a traumatic brain injury, she defied the odds by miraculously recovering from a two-week coma.

The pivotal moment in Brittany's recovery came when Luis Ansola, professional polo player and manager of Louisville Polo Club, bestowed upon her a retired polo pony named Fanta. This equine companion became the inaugural Replay Polo pony, marking the beginning of Brittany's mission to forge connections between these remarkable horses and individuals in need.

Brittany's unique insight led her to recognize the exceptional qualities of polo ponies, emphasizing their gentle demeanor and rideability. This assessment positioned them as ideal candidates for new careers and ignited Brittany's commitment to repurposing retired polo and racehorses.

With a diverse background spanning various equine disciplines—walking horses, quarter horses, dressage, hunter/jumper, showjumping, polo, western pleasure, thoroughbred racing, and therapeutic riding—Brittany is uniquely equipped to operate the repurposing pipeline and oversee instructional elements at Replay Polo.

Certified as a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship Instructor and Mentor, Brittany's commitment to equine well-being extends to her certification in equine massage therapy through The Animal Rehab Institute. Her wide-ranging contacts with owners and trainers position her as a sales agent for polo ponies and racehorses actively engaged in their careers.

Replay Polo's mission goes beyond repurposing; retired horses are donated to the 501(c)3 organization, undergo retraining, and are adopted out to lead fulfilling lives with a renewed sense of purpose. Brittany Halstead's resilience, expertise, and unwavering dedication make Replay Polo a beacon of hope in the equestrian community, showcasing the transformative power of the human-equine connection under her visionary leadership.

In the recent National Arena Commander-in-Chief Cup, Patrick Shanahan rode with the Army team to a thrilling victory against the defending champions, Navy. Beyond the exhilarating competition, this event represents a broader mission – to foster camaraderie and advance military polo on both national and international stages.

In this highly-anticipated Season Finale of Outside The Boards Podcast, we're ecstatic to introduce you to three remarkable athletes - Pamela Flanagan, Hope Arellano, and Hazel Jackson, who together form three-fourths of the formidable La Fe Women's Polo Team. What's even more remarkable is that these champions are joining us from across the globe, with representatives in Florida, California, and Argentina.

It's been a little over a month since they last played together and since their incredible victory at the 2023 U.S. Open Women's Polo Championship. But the taste of triumph is still fresh in their minds and hearts.

Their journey to this victory was not without its challenges, including a tough start in the Open with a nail-biting loss to BTA by just one point in the initial match. However, their unwavering dedication, teamwork, and competitive spirit carried them through, effortlessly defeating El Cid Fitness by 8 points and San Saba by 5, ultimately culminating in a resounding 12-6 victory against Dundas in the finals.

When you tally up their collective experience, these three incredible women boast a staggering 15+ Open appearances and have secured more than 8 Open Championships. Their list of achievements is truly awe-inspiring.

Join us as we delve into the story of how this remarkable team came together, the meticulous planning and coordination that went into building their successful team and string, and yes, they didn't hold back in sharing some entertaining and perhaps even "pant-splitting" stories along the way.

 On this Final Season #3 Episode of Outside The Boards Podcast, I am thrilled to introduce to you all to Pamela Flanagan, Hope Arellano and Hazel Jackson, three of the four members of the La Fe Women’s Polo Team and winners of the 2023 U.S. Open Women’s Polo Championship. 

 For the first time in this Podcast’s history, we have linked all three players who are joining us from Florida, California and Argentina.

 It is has been a month since these ladies were last together and over a month since  the Women’s Open Championship, but the sweet sensation of victory is still flowing through their veins.

Despite a rough start to the Open loosing to BTA by one in the first match, the lose did not deter the team having practiced and played competitively together leading up to the Open. They effortless rolled past the competition knocking our El Cid Fitness by 8 and San Saba by 5 before meeting Dundas in the finals defeating them 12-6.

Between all three players, they have 15+ Open appearances and 8 or more Open Championships. 

So many incredible accomplishments between these three women and the accolades keep coming. Join and listen to how this incredible team came together and the amount effort, planning and coordinating goes into building a successful team and string. These ladies were also not shy to share some pant splitting stories as well.
