Today on the 5: In the most recent episode of AI Inside, Jason Howell and Jeff Jarvis covered a story about an upcoming beta from Audible that would allow audiobook narrators to create AI versions of themselves. These synthetic voice models could then be licensed by authors to read their books while compensating the narrators. This seems shockingly fair, especially coming from Amazon.

Today on the 5: I came across an opinion piece over on Polygon talking how Deadpool & Wolverine signals the end of experimentation in superhero films. While I agree with many of the points made in the piece, I'm not sure a lack of experimentation is the problem we cirrently have in superhero cinema.

Today on the 5: Over the weekend I watched a Mexican slasher film from 1989 titled Hell's Trap. At first glance it might look like yet another in a long line of foreign ripoff films, but I think it's far better than what you might expect!

Today on the 5: Meta has apparently decided not to pursue a high end mixed reality headset that was meant to compete with the Apple Vision Pro. The most likely reasons for that move make me wonder whether they were ever going to build it in the first place.

Today on the 5: Graphic design company Canva recently announced a fairly large price hike for many of their users that is being justified by the "value of our expanded product experience". This has understandably upset a lot of users and led to debate about what the true reason for the increase might be.

Today on rhe 5: If you have even a mild interest in video games, you've likelty seen at least a few news items over the failure of the recently released hero shooter Concord. The game was declared DOA by many before it even launched because it was clearly trend chasing, but I don't think that's what really doomed it.

Today on the 5: I picked up the 2023 video game Robocop: Rogue City during one of the many Steam sales earlier in the year. I've played through about 50% of the game, and so far it's been a blast.
